IMG_1609 by postlematt, on Flickr Also a twin side draft throttle linkage set up and some used uni filters that ill give a clean up, linkage was made for dellortos but should be pretty straight forward to make them fit my Mikuni Solex. Welded in the new panhard rod bracket today got to cut down the old panhard rod and re-sleeve it to fit a rose joint to make it adjustable then weld the new mount onto the diff. Does anyone know where i can get a rose joint that is sweet for cert? regular ones dont meet the lvvta standards apparently. matt_spitfire
Small update, bought a vw golf front chin spoiler from the uk and trimmed it up to fit the TA.. IMG_1701 by postlematt, on Flickr Had to mock it up multiple times to get it sitting right, plenty of trimming but the fact is plastic made it pretty east to cut and file etc.. IMG_1704 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1722 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1720 by postlematt, on Flickr got my dad to cnc up some new rear caliper brackets, a lot easier to machine up to suit the hilux diff compared to the original t series ta22 diff! matt_spitfire
Has anyone converted a diff to disc brake in a car that was originally running drums? Just curious about how i should go about plumbing it up? Ive gone a got the pajero master cylinder which is a common upgrade for a ta22 running discs but can i get away with just fitting an adjustable brake bias valve and adjust the rear brakes accordingly? //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38745-matt-spitfires-ta22-daily-driver-buildresto/page-

IMG_1795 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_1796 by postlematt, on Flickr also got the doors stripped rear for some new sheet metal to be welded into the rusted areas, theres a few spots but theyre not as bad as i weas expecting which is a bit of a bonus divers door.. Popular Post matt_spitfire
I had to notch the radiator support panel slightly to get some clearance between the radiator and underside of the bonnet. IMG_2044 by postlematt, on Flickr fitted the NOS celica badge to the rear filler panel and blacked it out along with the tail light sarrounds. IMG_2034 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2039 by postlematt, on Flickr also resprayed the under seal and primed the engine bay. matt_spitfire
Theres a lot of minor thiings i didnt take photos of, blasting bits and pieces painting them up etc, these are just what i remimbered to take pics of haha. cleaned up the interior floor and gave it a paint IMG_2181 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2201 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2197 by postlematt, on Flickr Started fitting the front end and enginebay accessories, big thanks to Mike (sleeektoy) for the passenger side headlight bucket and filler panel. matt_spitfire
Dropped the motor back in finally.. degreased and painted up the block while it was out IMG_2209 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2208 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2210 by postlematt, on Flickr I bought a factory ta22 t50 cross member off Mike (sleektoy) as it has a radius in one side for the exhaust to run under, as my extractors sit so close to the floor this is going to be handy to tuck the exhaust up as high as possible for ground clearnce but im running a w55 which mounts further back and fouls on the cross member.. solution.. cut it to pieces and make it work.. matt_spitfire
Long time no update, ive still been working on the car here and there, lost motivation for a bit while i was waiting on parts, got shit loads of photos so ill have to look through them to find the ones that look like ive achieved something haha.. Anyway tank filler needed sorting, i bought a flexi fuel hose, filler neck and roll over valve from the uk, got here in under a week. then worked out the angles. IMG_2291 by matt postle, on Flickr got a 90 degree stainless bend along with a bit of 6mm stainless plate and cnc'd it to suit the old fuel filler. IMG_2349 by matt postle, on Flickr took the photo before it was bolted down as i still had to drill the hole in the tank for the toll over valve. Also baught some an fittings for the tank, block off caps along with an an10-an6 fitting so i can run braided hose to the fuel pump. The fuel level sender was also reading backwards to it was saying empty when it should have been reading full and vice versa, i switch the wiring between positive and earth but didnt make a difference so in the end i rotated the sender 180 degrees then bend the bit of stainless wire that hold the float and that worked a treat. IMG_2442 by matt postle, on Flickr Next up i noticed that the diff head had bugger all cleance with the tunnel at the back where the rear seat is fitted (about 20mm) so i cut a hole.. IMG_2308 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2326 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2309 by matt postle, on Flickr then realised i probably would pass cert with a hole where the back seat should be so i bent up a bit of steel, was a bit of a mission as i only had a vice, angle grinder and hammer.. IMG_2330 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2335 by matt postle, on Flickr bent it up to fit.. IMG_2359 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2357 by matt postle, on Flickr spot welded it into position then borrowed an oxy acetyline torch to warm it up and gammer it around the contours of the existing floor pane/tunnel IMG_2428 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2424 by matt postle, on Flickr etch primed and under sealed.. good as new! well nearly, its not pretty but the seat and diff head/drive shaft will hide most of it.. IMG_2450 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2443 by matt postle, on Flickr ive also spent alot of time checking out the wiring etc, had to rewire the tail lights from scratch to suit the pre facelift flat tail lights, i also had a real mission trying to find the plug for the reverse lights.. checked all the plugs and wiring under the dash etc, ended up hooking a battery unto the reverse light wiring at the tail lights and tried to trace it with a volt metre, it turned out the plug was in the engine bay hidden right under the brake booster where the engine loom comes out the firewall.. anyway my tail light wiring came up sweet! Reverse lights by matt postle, on Flickr Ill have to upload some more photos and get onto some more updates tomorrow. matt_spitfire
So here are some photos of the restored.jp frp panels as requested by Kyteler who was also a real good sort for putting me onto Ewan at stacked. Pretty happy with the build quality only a couple of minor imperfections and a small amount of damage on the the front drivers side corner of the bonnet which is to be expected when shipping something of this size from japan to nelson. Anyway photos!! (taken the night i got the panels so will get some better photos in the day light). Popular Post matt_spitfire
more updates from the last month or so in no particular order.. sent the doors to creative colours in nelson to be professionally panel beated, i didnt really want to do them myself as they're such a big panel it would have taken me days to do and i never would have been happy with them, top job done by these guys though! IMG_2307 by matt postle, on Flickr Genuine toyota rear quarter window rubbers IMG_2527 by matt postle, on Flickr Few other parts off ebay.. washer bottle. ta22 radiator hoses easier than trying to make something else fit! ta27 side indicators (these wont fit without modding the new restored.jp guards so might just run the ta22 ones for now). speedo cable (doesnt fit so will roll with the old one this suits a ke20 so it says so if anyones after a new one hit me up! rear numberplate lights that sit behind the rear bumper. also not pictured is the new drive shaft centre bearing IMG_2525 by matt postle, on Flickr new drive shaft centre bearing fitted IMG_2524 by matt postle, on Flickr reconditioned brake callipers my mates brother works at a brake specialist place so got him to rebuild them for a sweet price! IMG_2580 by matt postle, on Flickr gave the front discs a skim, also put new wheel bearings and seals up front, rear bearings and seals in the hilux diff were new and replaced by the guy i bought it off so didnt need to do these. IMG_2596 by matt postle, on Flickr front sway bar was sand blasted and painted, now back in with new bushes etc. IMG_2581 by matt postle, on Flickr Went and saw Ben aka Maxted here on the OS forums, supplied him with some exhaust tubing and templates and being the GC he is he bent it up for me, Cheers man! IMG_2576 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2575 by matt postle, on Flickr took the vw front lip i modded to a plastic welder to get welded up in the centre, added heaps of strength just needs a bit of a file to tidy it up..
