StuT
Hey all, Got a 3 litre v6 with type 5 (internal linkage) gear box. Problem is drops out of 2nd when changing down from 3rd. Goes great when rev'd and shift from 1st to 2nd. Anyone had experience rebuild one of these? I do have a Celica W50 (unknown condition) with proper bell housing to fit one day. How hard and $ to rebuild this? Still need to sort clutch and pressure plate (size?) Opinions welcome, porbably looking for the cheapest easiest fix first. About to get car re cert'd for other mods also Cheers Stu
J2Racing
No idea about what is causing problem with gear box . But can tell you that palmside motor sport in CHCH do a rebuild kit 4 them. Costs about $350 I think. To use the Toyota box you'll need a new clutch fork. Can use factor one but won't work well with cable set up in capri. Unless you go hydraulic . Have seen people try. And give up wouldn't recommend it.
Unclejake
Problem is drops out of 2nd when changing down from 3rd. It is probably the bearings, but if the Type 5 is a single rail box with a removable bellhousing (like the four cylinder ones), then check that the sliding rail is not hitting the bellhousing.
