This is my legendary 1200 (well in Hawkes Bay anyway) - Brendan swears i should never hav pulled it off the road but here is a few pics.....

This is when i first got the car back in 2001 - (Just brought as a run about as my corolla in the backround was evolving into a rally car.

I brought it purely as a run around as i knew nothing of the DATSUN brand back then - when i first came across it at a mates place (when he said he had a car for sale) i thought it was an Escort (shame on my Undies).

He had stated to paint strip it and had had big plans tobuild a race car out of it ( lucky i saved it )

Another one of my freinds (not from same group) had said he wanted one - and i super pissed him off when i rolled up in this one afternoon (especially when he found out how much i payed for it)

Also got 1st mod - mag wheels (off the corolla)

Originally picked it up for $200 Reg and Wof :o:o

It was then down to my good mate Wayno's place to be panel beated and painted.

(anyone notice dads KE25 Hubbies)

She even went to the snow in those early years - bit of snow drift. (up the Taupo Road)

Gotta love the Drag Fitment - 155's front and 175's rear.

Another set of wheels a lowering job and foward to 2003 (met brendan around this time and he fell in love with this car - was the baddest dato in HB ahaha)

Forward to 2006-now - Car is stripped/ semi put back together - rolling shell state.

Loading all parts for it, into it ready for next year - South Island here we come.

You'll also notice blue panels but ill save that story for tomorrow.

This is where the blue panels came from - brought as daily so we could rebuild orange but then datsun bug hit and we brought tthe Y aswell.

As you can see it must have had a mega sound system - all fibreglassed in - but hadnt ben on the road in the last 10 years - or so the ownership papers said ( suspect plate swap as you do ).

We got the rear fixed up with new parcel tray etc anddrove it for around 2 years.

Decided to fix "a few rustspot" and Hello Jim.

There were no inner or outer sills - all fibreglassed up - with those dinky flare things on them.

The floor in pasengers side was barely connected to the car - also fibreglassed and masses of underseal.

I put a screwdriver through the bottom of the rear guard while taking back the bog and about 2 litres of rusty looking water pissed out.

The bottom of the two rear guards were non existent.

The front guards were bogged on at the bottom.

And lots more where that came form.

So decided to wreck it then and there - panel beater had seen nthing like it (mate still has shell so will take some picks for you guys (hes using roof and plates)

I would love to find the guys who owned it in Auckland before the guy i brought it off - they used a trailer load of bog and fibreglass to construct a rolling death trap (1200's are bad enuf without rust).

So anyway thats the story of the blue Panels on Orange - the glass is al deluxe (factory tint) and the doors are hadit but complete and bolted on so i can load Orange up for South Island.

Bit of an update... 2009

Currrently wrecking an S13 out as i got it cheap - towwed it home from waipuk - about half our away with the mighty 720 Chur CHur

here was the 1200 last night

pix0032.jpg

nothing really goin on.....

then bam....... CA18det conversion done - is it ok to use sump + engine crossmember as mounts with 1x stretchy tie hahahaha.

pix0034.jpg

pix0035.jpg

They are a way tighter fit than the y - on the burbs had to jump up and down on the engine to get it down enuf to get the bonnet on as i still had the box on it too - chur ready for when it goes into the container aye guys.

pix0353.jpg

All good, cleaned all the S13 crap off it - is pretty sacked considering theres no blocks in the back.

Currently ripping all stuff from inside - taping windows on - and restacking stuff inside for max parts storage in car.

Man no update since 2009 - what are you doing Brocky.

Well after a long stint of mucking around with other projects including two Toyota MK2 Grande's, a 310 Sunny and multiple derby cars + having done nothing on this since we moved to CHCH its time for all systems go on the 1200.

Our three weeks in the USA taught me a couple of things

A - everything is cheaper in the States

B - I need to get my A into G on this build.

So... The CA is out an up on TM in parts - decided that a CA was to easy {well not easy just want to be different and the CA wasnt as popular as it is now}.

Enter one DR30 FJ20ET and short 5 Speed.

I finally decided on the FJ for a number of reasons......

short gearbox (shifter is way further foward than a CA one) = shifter almost in original spot.

something different (seen a couple in aussie done)

FJ's are tough as old nails

FJ's still have a good range of aftermarket bits ie Forged Pistons

oh and its an FJ !!! :burnout:

I also wanted coil overs all round so i got myself a set of these S13 ones - they are 16 way adjustable shock with adjustable spring preload and seperate height adjust. Also come with pillow ball mounts and front camber plates.

Ill be running shortened S13 control arms and 4 or five stud hubs depending on wheel choice.

I chose this brand as i didnt want anything too fancy (can get replacements easy) and the shocks dont have to be super hard as i want it to ride well - if need be can get Tein coils through work to suit if its too hard / soft.

imag0293s.jpg

imag0294pt.jpg

because its going to have an FJ ill also be needing one of these soon too (makes everything fully adjustable and i don't run into the problems i've had with the 120Y)

3ped.jpg

Undecided on Diff as yet - Hilux or Falcon.

Got a couple of things left to do on other cars then gonna start at the front and work my way back :dance2:

Hopefully will be looking something like this engine bay soon

Little bit of an update.... 2011

Engine out again - Thanks Earthquake - cross member in with s13 lower arms and 4 stud hubs. Got the coil overs in just had to lick up the 3 stud holes with the drill (larger stud) and they are in too.

The s13 arms are way to long - would be around 4 degrees neg camber and could only run high positive offset wheels ie +38 like the skyline wheels i used for a mock up, so next thing is to chop up, rose joint, make them fully adjustable and work out what to do for castor arms.

Tyre rubbing dude to no disks on hubs

Update 2012

Sold first FJ have another one now - this is pretty much as it sits - got some 280mm rotors and hopefully will have some calipers to suit soon - wheels are flat mates.

Have started cutting firewall to suit engine
