Without getting some weird and bizarre timing checking tool and adjusting it to factory stuff, just crank to the point that it smokes, then wind back a notch. Or keep tweaking till it feels the best. That's basically what I did anyway.

Advancing the timing a tad will improve economy and reduce the egts, but the turbo won't spool up quite as fast. Opposite for retarded.
