shaneo
Finally 100 posts had this car a long time now. The plan keeps moving every day at the moment . But the bigger goal is the Nats in march. There is so much to do , I'm not sure all of it can be done by mid Feb but will try as much as I can . The list of parts I'm waiting on is growing by the day. I do have the drive shaft back it has been shortened ready for the 5 speed and the gear box is sitting in place ready for the mounting to be mocked up so fitting can take place. The gear box went from this lovely colour to this with two coats of POR 15 Still needs one more coat A few parts have been starting to arrive to get the car ready . The plan was throttle bodies by March but the delay of parts and so much needed to be changed new goal is 5 speed and rebuilt engine with a few extras. I have had these arrive but unsure if the ones that I will use later. Hopefully the rest of the parts will arrive soon.
shaneo
most of the parts arrived on Xmas eve only a few to come for the moment. Also over the weekend with loads of help form Billy we managed to get this done Opted to go without shortening the gear box. Have a Quaife short shifter on the way. Still some work to do but now the hard part is done just waiting on the engine to come back now. With the bike carbs sold now I need to work on how I'm going to fuel it once it has been run in.The plan is ITB's but time is not on my side before the nats for this
shaneo
After doing a list and seeing how much is still to be done I need to get moving on this. engine is out and old gearbox mounts are gone so just a tidy in the tunnel and a clean up of the engine bay are the next on the list. shaneo
Is it fixed yet every day its the same question can I help still in far to many pieces is the simple answer keep coming up against job after job. Gear box is already to be fitted speedo cable is here just waiting for a new clutch cable and the rubber boot that covers the cable to arrive. Sandwich plate has a small gap which I'm going to leave for now. Next is due to my cam being 103 deg I might need to cut 2.5mm out of the top of my pistons I have this arranged but will need to re balance them again , So we are going with a trail fit first. Head is already to go and painted so is the block I have these as a temp plan untill I get all the parts for the ITBs . But looks like I will have to look for a new temp plan as they need a linkage and 2x banjos before I even start plus another $400-$500 worth of parts and tiding. Would be cheaper to get something brand new for the filler. The engine builder has said a 36/36 weber would be fine but I am having trouble finding one any help would be great

shaneo
Thought I would get the heater going as driving down to nats last year late at night on the dessert road was cold . First things was fix the faulty fan I had a spare unit here but the fan was stuffed . It started smoking on its test . Got another one from a mate same thing fan stuffed and it didnt look like an escort one with a date stamp of 85 on it but was pretty close to the same. Got a free running fan from a Mate form a Mk1 it's a little bit higher and alot heavier but works great . Next was test the core for leaks and I ended with 2 fails on the old MK2 ones took the newer one apart and its great need to change the packing a little and it will work great. These arrived today as well so I got some nice clamps to tidy the whole lot up The difference in the GP4 steering joints Slowly getting there the new battery cables are being made up to move the battery to the boot as well hopefully all that will be done and fitted soon. Popular Post shaneo
Been waiting and waiting for these to arrive just in time so had to do a trail fit. shaneo
So it goes and well very different form beforehand loads of torque strange for a xflow. Done 650km so far better fuel economy than the bike carbs with the side drafts an extra 100 km per tank.Rate the cam Kennelly cams even 3rd gear gets a bite now while still running in. Photo's to follow but still don't have it all back together yet.
shaneo
Still not all back together but running very well done 1400km now . It goes back to the garage on Thursday to get new shocks fitted and some new axles as well. Had been told good things about Woolf mufflers so I sent it there to get the headers fitted . They threw out my whole system and replaced it with a 2" pipe right though and only one muffler. It sounds good now a little loud but right on the limit so I've been told. Picked this up today on a swap deal Should get the car to the monthly meet . Very interesting car to drive now cant wait to get it on a track.
shaneo
Car went back to the shop today to have new axles put in to hopefully get rid of the vibration for good. I'm not holding my breath but everything else has either been replaced with new parts it's the last thing left that it could be. The accelerator cable has been fixed up so I can get full throttle now . Turned out the brake boster hose had a split in it already so I was sucking air into number 4 Had these fitted as well while it's having a few jobs done keen to see what it will handle like after this as it handles so well untill now. shaneo
Vibration fixed finally after replacing every part of the running gear every bush balancing the engine . It had a douggie universal so two new joints and its all gone. taken a year and half till it has been found many thanks to Paul at Marua Automotive. On a really good note the car had been staving for gas around 5700 rpm and with a quick change into 2nd gear it would bogg down so while it was in the shop today we took the top of the carbs and it was only running 115 main jets with 32 mm venturi . so with a little playing around. It now runs 140 mains and i'm looking for some 34 mm venturi as it is still searching for more but will pull all the way to 7000 rpm now no problem. but it is getting to the limit of a set 40's so I might need to go to 45's yet. sorry no pic's this time will post a video of it running soon as its away to beach hop for the weekend
shaneo
Went to Beach hop for a drive for the weekend and stayed in the Coromandel for the weekend so we could get some driving in seen as it's only done 1500 km since start up. The drive down on Friday night was fun had the shocks wound up far to hard but it stuck like glue to every corner and didn't miss a beat and got driven hard. Had to rob this pic car looks good here you can hardly see half of the faults. So I let Jenn drive back to the batch so I could have a few beers. She gave it a fair amount of stick as you can see A couple of things came from the weekend need better brakes and already have the 34mm venturi on the way and then maybe a tune to get the best from it and it will be already for the gumboot rally. And it goes really well
shaneo
loads has been going on at late engine is has been going from strength to strength have the 34mm ventures in and am running 160 main jets but it still wants more gas so I'm going to get a set of 45's for it on 36 mm ventures which should give it all the gas it needs. Took it on the Gumboot rally was like a 1000km race drove it like i stole it for the whole weekend . Not one problem. I do have a few oil leaks now . And the vibration is back. It was noted from a car following me that me left rear wheel sits on a slight angle which could mean that the diff housing is bent.I did get a lose seat bolt from the weekend Have fitted a new catch can and new air cleaners .Got some new brakes as it's just a little faster than it was I have fitted Ferodo DS2500 pads and still have the vented disks to fit I also need a new dissy cap as the current one is lose which is causing the car to run a bit crap at current.
shaneo
Got a new dizzy cap big difference . The one that came with the new dizzy was moving all over the place . Run into another couple of problems took the car for an early morning run up north just though the tunnel and the alternator light comes on and I'm leaking oil every where . Source of the oil leak from a brand new oil pump. Contacted the seller and they are sending a new O ring for it. As for the alternator the regulator is stuffed and unrepairable no replacement parts ( not happy $400 and only 15 month of use poor quality ) So I'm looking for a replacement Jap one to put on so the car sits waiting for parts . Track day booked for the 18th keen to see how the new motor will go

mfordy
Bugger!.. Distributer probs again? Was the pop just a backfire thru the carbs or a mechanical breakage?
