escort starter solenoid halp!

BONED

Recommended Posts

i have a 1981 mk2 escort, finally getting it going after 2 years, am trying to remember which way the wires go around, and which colour wire is for switch from the ignition and which male does it plug onto?

i think i have the power wire right, i.e battery goes to right hand side of soleniod and starter on the left?

cheers

It wont matter which way around the big cables are, when the solenoids activated it just links them, see what wire comes live when you turn the key to start, and just see which one makes it go, cant imagine it wud blow up if its around the wrong way?

yeah cheers, i think i got the big cables sorted, but theres about 3-4 lobes on the solenoid and only 2 smaller wires that will fit, and i dont know what way around they go or where to put them.

do you have a pre engaged starter motor?

I think one of them is the 12v feed for the coil during startup and the other is the wire to or from the ignition. The coil one should be attached to the same wire as the big starter wire. I think the other should supply 12v from the ignition to click over your big relay switch

I imagine it to work like this

-big terminal on left is feed from battery

-middle terminal is relay switch

-right terminal is switched feed to starter motor and 12v supply to coil during startup

check where the wires go with a multimeter and it should be self explanatory

I have changed my starter motor and whole wiring so I cant tell you what I have

i think thats right, will have to find battery to test it, but it sounds solid, Cheers for that!
