Taistorm
Just picked up the g32b turbo engine from hamilton 2day. ill post up some pictures 2mro of it
Taistorm
Engine is a g32b turbo out of a mkII mitsubishi mirage (1984-88 i think) and the dodge & plymouth colt 'pocket rockets' that were released in 1984. -engines only done about 140,000km -turbo has no play (will probs be upgrading to a td04 or something) -seems pretty choice, compressions sweet and what not -gonna replace all the seals and gaskets before i chuck it in -gonna get a 13b turbo intercooler for it (the front mount, not the top mount) will be more to come in the next few weeks
Taistorm
Quick update, in the process of converting the bits n pieces of the aftermarket tacho into the stock tacho to get it functioning. will post pictures up shortly.
Taistorm
ok so i sorted the tacho a few weeks back and now its working perfectly but with the after market needle. forgot to take some pics, ill try get some up soon. I started pulling the engine to bits and took some pictures of the internals which look pretty sweet. got some valve adjusting to do but only minor adjustments nee to be made. (will get some pictures of the block n pistons up when i can but these will do for the mean time ) Then picked up this badboy last Wednesday at lunch for only 40bux, pretty mint condition with only a few bent fins... had all the extra mounting components on which i ripped off then i gave it a quick sand down and clean. will probably get it painted black sometime soon. And I then picked up these 15" ROH Reflexes that afternoon for only $350 including tyres, all of which have decent tread except one which is pretty worn. Notice how It sits awfully high? i'll be investing in a set of lowering springs when i get the money together. the only negative is that one of the wheels scrapes on the struts so im picking up a set of spacers 2mro morning to get it sorted oh also picking up an engine stand, compressor and paint gun set next week then im going to start practicing my painting. hopefully my dads mate (professional panelbeater & welder) can offer me some lessons any1 got a colour in mind? originally i was thinking of gloss black with either a dark red or orange pearl but now ive been thinking about a high gloss babyl blue or tangelo orange? any suggestions would be much appreciated choice as! Taistorm
so apparently repco doesnt keep the wheel spacers in stock and cant order til monday, supercheap dont even sell em and me having the flu making me really cbf looking anywhere else, i purchased a pair of 3mm spacers for the rear for $45.95 including shipping. hopefully they will do the job, otherwise ill return them and get a pair of 7mm. Taistorm
Its been a long time since i last updated this thread so its about time i make a post (sorry ive got no pics).. Been slowly gathering bits and pieces and started reconditioning and rebuilding the engine with the help of Tony Lynch. Ive only been able to work on the engine once every second week or so for a few hours when Tony's been available so progress has been very slow but good, learned alot of new things aswell. currently i have completely stripped the engine down and have been reconditioning the head. All the valves have had the carbon cleaned off and the seats ground and refitted with new guides. Here's a list of parts ive collected over time... -Complete set of seals and gaskets -water pump -ngk sparkplugs and leads -premium chrome plated piston rings -2.5" coby Resonator and Muffler -Td04l turbo -hks ssqv bov Also picked up some dash bits and pieces from pick-a-part including a dashcluster & surround, heater controls & clock and a window wiper delay module haha + a rear bumper. Ive also had the crankshaft ground back and got a new set of bearings to go, also thanks to 'Southern hardstyle' ive got a set of 14x6" 2 piece Hoshino Impul's that ive cleaned and repainted the same colour as the rocker cover minus the prizmatique stz. In other news.. at unitec last week i checked the rear drums and wheel bearings, all in good nick plus the old grease has been removed and replaced but unfortunately when i was tightening the handbrake cable, the thread snapped and now ive gotta go hit up pick-a-part to find a replacement cable and a few weeks before that the stainless steel capping on the front bumper flew off on the motorway by the taka on/off ramp. Luckily my mate picked up for me and it was still in good condition minus a few little scratches. Ill make sure i bring the camera this weekend as i will be working on the engine and will upload some pics. Chur

Taistorm
Damn forgot to take pictures again yesterday... Anyway, ive now completely assembled the reconditioned head and set the valve tappets. Also i will be re-boring the cylinders and assembling the engine in two weeks. Meanwhile i picked up full-time work for the holidays so will have a bit of coin to purchase some goods in a few. Shits finally coming together hopefully will have the thing running in a month! Peace Edit: Forgot to mention i hit up pick-a-part on Saturday and unfortunately the Mirage the i salvaged some bits off a while ago isnt there anymore and didnt have the correct socket to remove the hub nut to nick some bits from the next gen mirage. will probably go again soon with more tools . Taistorm
So got down to a bit more work on the engine today. Was hoping to reassemble it today but after cleaning the block down, honing the cylinders and measuring the piston ring gaps i came to a halt as i found out that the piston rings are bloody wrong damn you ACL! haha gonna go return them tomorrow and hope they give me the right ones this time. grr And some pics.. Cylinders before After Third cylinder has had some previous damage from water leakage And i picked up some HKS gauges for cheapies of tardme Boost, water temp, oil temp. Peace
Taistorm
Yea been a bit caught up at unitec with my final assignment and getting my portfolio together and i havent spent much time on this. After trying to exchange the piston rings for some that would actually fit, according to the ACL archives these were the correct rings and they wouldn't give me a refund or exchange em and they told me to go see an engine specialist and get the piston re grooved to make em fit . Anyways as of today i bead blasted the pistons and theyre gonna be brought in to get the piston pins removed and regrooved so the rings will fit, after the bead blasting only piston 2 was a bit ragged with a bit of scoring but that should polish out and they will all be like new, then finally i can assemble the engine! slowly getting there sorry bout no pics. Oh yah ive also been collecting manuals and brochures. Ive got 2 owners hand books, haynes manual, mirage/tredia/precis manual, 2 different australian manuals, the NZ manufactured 1.4l mirageII turbo brochure and the second gen mirage turbo marketing flyer thingy. Edit: Also the 1.8L cordia gearbox and half shafts arrived 2 weeks ago from the mighty southland. Ive been told its only done 110,000kms and looks to be in very good nick. measured it all up and it should go in easy as. peace
Taistorm
Today's effort... will let the pictures do the talking.. Pistons, Crank & Caps ready for assembly Crank in Pistons in Topside of pistons, shineeey Reconditioned head (pretty scratched up from gasket removal but it measured up swell and didn't need to bother skimming it) Head torqued up Rocker cover on, finally starting to look like an engine again Heres some older pictures that iv'e been meaning to put up plus a few goodies that i picked up on saturday. cordia 1.8L turbo gearbox & halfshafts Manuals & brochures collection Brass core/frost plugs 323 Fender mirrors (Cheers Oskar) I will be finishing the assembly next weekend, I've gotta pick up 1 more Core plug (40mm) for the head then it's good to go. I will be repainting the head and block black and will be blasting all the other housings and what not to get em looking brand new + re zincing all the bolts. Taistorm
Did abit more work on the engine yesterday, didn't really spend that much time on it. Only repainted the block & head, stuck the core plugs in, bead blasted the oil pump and housings + rebuilt the oil pump as it was shanked. Had a bit of staining from some shit inside it but got all the clearances in-spec so should be all good. Was a bitch when i painted the block as there was a fucking split down the nozzle. Taped it up then sprayed it with shit drippin out everywhere. pics yo Going to be cleaning up all the bolts, bead blasting & re-plating them with that zinc gold stz and finishing off the assembly this weekend hopefully Discuss //oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=21682&start=
Taistorm
Well today I bead blasted all the belt pulleys and zinc passivated them. Ive got no pics but theyre looking very sharp. It's quite funny how they all reacted. The camshaft pulley came out creamy with a slightly gold tinge, the oil pump pulley came out quite coppery looking and the rest are more goldish. Decided im ditching the original continuous injection setup and swapping over to multipoint injection. I've got gsr injectors lined up with a fuel rail to suit and a 60mm throttle body (not sure what its off) and will be running this with an older link ECU instead of a megasquirt. Will be modifying the standard intake manifold to suit. Also going to run the intercooler piping off to the side and around the rocker cover instead of straight across. I also picked up one of these at the 4&Rotarys last weekend for cheap.. It's a 38mm tial wastegate hehe .
Taistorm
Havent really done anything at all since before xmas but I started getting stuck in today. Managed to get all the bolts, nuts and other stz on the frontside of the engine electroplated and coated with gold passivate which turned out quite nice. Also did all the sump bolts 'n' shit but some of them were in the shadow of the others and need to be recoated. Heres also some picks of the bits I picked up a while ago and the link ecu. Gsr Injectors Some 6cyl Merc fuel rail that needs to be cut and re-threaded (the injector positions lined up perfectly to the ports on the stock intake manifold. Fuel pump, not sure whats it off but should pump at over 50psi which will do the job sweet as. Comparison of the old and new throttle bodies And the ECU and loom Over the next week im gonna try strip out the engine bay in the mirage and get all the nuts & bolts ready for a new coat and try get some sanding started. Taistorm
So sad to see this sack of shit go, after having it for the last 3 and learning how to drive manual in it. Gone up to Whanagrei now. Atleast i've got coin to get some $400 worth of uni books now and get the chevette painted. Once I sell another car and have some more de neiro's i'll try pick up a minter. Know of a few that i'll be approaching in primo as condition. For the mean time i'll just be updating on engine stz hehe.
