JACKOS 1977 MK2 SPORT!

Recommended Posts

Well thought id set this up to help clear my head of the long list of things to do. I own a 1977 Mk2 Ford Escort Sport. I bought this about 3 yrs ago for $1800 with a WOF and Reg!. It has mostly been a daily driver, and is pretty much stock standard. (currently overseas, back in 2 months and will post pics).

Things ive done:

New Carpet

New Door cards (from an RS1800 ex UK)

New Dash

Re-upholstered the original seats

Installed a centre console and glovebox

reconditioned the gearbox

New starter motor, coil, leads

Minor rust work for WOF

Project plan:

Re-paint car in the original orange colour with pin strips. (DIY job,..... not to confident thou)

Build an all steel 1700 crossflow engine. (Have crank, pisitons, head, cam, almost complete  )

Nothalane bushes throughout (will buy in UK)

Capri coilover struts (need to find)

Austin Princess four-pit calipers (Bought not fitted)

Bias pedal box (hopefully a DIY job)

Capri close ratio gearbox (bought not fitted)

Fit original front spoiler (bought)

Fit original spot lights (bought)

13x7 superlites on low profiles (need to save some cash)

reset the rear leaf springs

Get a WOF

I am currently in the UK and i am trying to think of all those hard to get parts that I should bring back with me. (may also be able to bring back some small light parts for people. Any ideas on things I may need??

The basic plan when I get back is to get a new garage to store it in so i have enough room to work. From there will completely strip the car down for paint. After its painted install new suspension/brakes setup.. Fit new gearbox. Fit current standard engine. Get a WOF. Then spend the next few months building the 1700 beast on the side. (need to save some more cash, very expensive engine build :( ) The last touch will be the superlites. I really want the car to look standard but have alot of hidden power. I have had a couple of escorts but never had a big project like this one. Still learning as I go, any suggestions would be great!!

Ok so im back in NZ now and looking at finally continuing my escort project. In the last couple of weeks I have removed the sidedrafts and put the original carb back on the engine. It is now running better than ever!!! :D

Had a couple of quick drives in it and have now parked it up for a complete strip-down so I can get get it ready for a paint job.

Currently have the interior out of the car and repairing rust on the passengers side inner sill. Thankfully there is not a lot of rust work to do,... though I have not taken the paint back yet.... :?

Also I am going to make my own bias pedal box. Have got some advice of LOW'N'SLOW. Does not look to hard. Going to using master cylinders off a Hillman imp .625 bore.

Will take some photos over the weekend and post for you all to see!!

All the nice new interior has been removed to start the rust work.

Rust in the passenger side inner sill,... also under the bracket that the passenger seat mounts to at the front (removed in pic).

Current remote brake booster setup. Works well but am changing it to a bias pedal box (currently making, pics soon)

Currently looking for Capri vented discs, Lowered springs, balance bar and master cylinders for bias pedal box. Any help would be great!
