sorry guys, couple more questions. Im thinking of getting a compressor for spraying the car. possibly second hand. What should I look for. Im not sure what minimum specs I should be looking at. I do not want to get a heap of shit but do not want to spend a shit load. Any ideas?

Hi guys thanks for your help , will shoot down to the place in Newtown,.... and get some 'Z grip' bog. Also can anyone recommend a good etch primer to use on bare metal? Only want to do this job once so want to get it right! Any advice would be great. Cheers Jason

I am welding up all the holes,.... just using the fiberglass for dents, and filling after welding. Which is the best brand of bog to use then? I have used supercheap shit before and it is no good.

Which is the better type? My mate seems to reckon that the fiber based stuff is better? I have used it a bit and it seems very easy to work with.

Have got the clutch kit but do not have the time to do it at the moment. Will learn to live it for another month or so. Thanks for the advice. Cheers Jason

Actually just got a clutch kit, $170 for supercheap for a exedy kit. Not to badly priced so I got it. Will do the install this weekend. Will look at the oil seals and see what sort of state they are in. Cheers Jason

Is there any danger in just leaving it as it is for the moment? Its not that bad..... The laser is in real good nick apart from this so will probably eventually get it done. anyone know what a clutch kit will cost? Thanks for the advice. Cheers Jason

Hi, Got a couple of little problems with the daily. Clutch shudder in my 86 laser. Anyone know if there is a common problem with these cars that causes this? Had a look at the haynes manual and it suggests engine, gearbox mounts, warped pressure plate, or a glazed clutch?. Does anyone know a way to figure out which it could be? Cheers Jason

Little update: Have not been able to do fuck all at the moment as I am waiting for the garage to free up. Just trying to source parts that I need. Currently looking for Capri vented discs, Lowered springs, balance bar and master cylinders for bias pedal box. Any help would be great!

Standard 1600 at the moment,.... will worry about the new engine later All the nice new interior has been removed to start the rust work. Rust in the passenger side inner sill,... also under the bracket that the passenger seat mounts to at the front (removed in pic). Current remote brake booster setup. Works well but am changing it to a bias pedal box (currently making, pics soon)

Ok so im back in NZ now and looking at finally continuing my escort project. In the last couple of weeks I have removed the sidedrafts and put the original carb back on the engine. It is now running better than ever!!! Had a couple of quick drives in it and have now parked it up for a complete strip-down so I can get get it ready for a paint job. Currently have the interior out of the car and repairing rust on the passengers side inner sill. Thankfully there is not a lot of rust work to do,... though I have not taken the paint back yet.... Also I am going to make my own bias pedal box. Have got some advice of LOW'N'SLOW. Does not look to hard. Going to using master cylinders off a Hillman imp .625 bore. Will take some photos over the weekend and post for you all to see!!

Managed to get some steel main caps for £40. Pretty happy with that, also got a new bias pedal box with adjuster, lines and reservoirs for £130. Still sorting out the poly bushes, cant decide how much money to spend on them as the price for a full kit changes depending on the brand (from £65-almost £200) Also recently bought a set of tail-lights and a high volume oil pump ($100) Booked my flights home, will be back on the 4th Oct. Cant wait to get started on the car and take some pics for the website!!! Still looking for a garage to work on the escort, somewhere in Wellington ideally double. Also may need to find a cheap daily run-around car, if anyone has anything going?!?

Decided trying to get capri struts over here is just to expensive. Would rather put the money into the engine/bodywork. I will get a coilover conversion kit, and capri vented discs to fit on my escort struts, with some new inserts. Have priced some things up: Capri Discs: $80 Spacer Kit for Austin Princess calipers $75 Coilover conversion kit $120 (im sure i can get this cheaper!) Springs: $50 Inserts: Monroe $275 (through suspension tech) Total: $600 Should be able to get this down to at least $500 with a bit more research in the UK (turbosport etc) bit cheaper than £300 thou. -Bought a NEW Kent cam 244 Kit today $250 Bargin! -Found a full set of polyurethane bushes for the escort for $180 NZD. they look ok,..... ?? Well didn't win the auction on th coil-over stuts price went to high for me (£365) way to high. Will look at the conversion kit with springs and new inserts. Also have a friend who can probably fabricate that pedal box up so will look at that as-well. Save some cash!! Thanks guys

Thanks for the help guys. I think I will have to stick to a pretty limited budget, So I will probably just concentrate on getting the bias pedal box, coil-over struts, poly bushes, and new door/boot seals. That should probably do it. Thanks for the advice about the cert Gaz, will no doubt need a cert for the bias pedal box anyway. Ill get the warrent with the standard stuff in it and then swap it after!

As soon as I get back I will put pics up!!! It has been sitting in a garage for a year, but the engine has been turned over about once a month, so hopefully nothing has seized!! I have been overseas since sept last year working and travelling. Had enough of the English now and cant wait to get back. Have seen some wicked car shows while ive been here and some famous escorts! Rodger clarks etc. Cant wait to get back and get stuck into mine. The escort looks like it has had a lot of rust in the past, but it was all "apparently" fixed by a panel beater prior to me having it. The only rust work I have done is the drivers side A pillar. When I start stripping it back im sure i will find some surprises. I want to try and use filler as little as possible so hopefully there is not much there already. Just trying to save as much cash as I can at the moment. I want to get the bias pedal box and coilovers while im here as they are a lot cheaper than NZ. Also trying to decide whether to arch it with forest flares and go for 15" minilites or leave it standard and go for 13" deep-dish. Any suggestions?? I have the original front and rear spoiler so I reckon it would look good with the arch's. Anyone know of a double garage for rent in Wellington???

I have been looking at getting some new suspension bushes for the escort. Want to get a full kit. Does anyone know the best brand/type to get. There seem to be quite a large range.
