Seedy Al
So, Some of you may or may not know that I have owned this car for about 3 years, Bought it as a rolling shell, everything there but motor and box. SO this Specs Toyota Corona AT-141 Factory 4age model Now Running 7age and link ECU Has locked diff (these are IRS) And cressida brakes all round (factory!) Anyway. I mounted the 7age and link over two years ago, and tried to get a wof, it failed on some rust and needing a cert.... I then drove it to a curb, I fixed it dodge as and it has sat in my drive way ever since.. So I decided track day was the day to get this thing back to its Glory days. So first was towing back to wortk, was epic, late at nite with no battery. Next day, drained oils and checked Gear box, I also pulled apart the diff head and fitted a locked center I got for 2 dozen Beer (Thanks import Enhancments) Then was the suspention, ages ago I Had fitted oil shocks out of a celica, these were shit and are part of the reason I claimed a curb, So I bought some Gas shocks , which are about 120mm shorter than factory corona ones, and I in tern built some coil overs. In the back I ended up usiing sone shocks i had left over from my RX-30 build, and moddified some commodor sedan springs to suit it. Next was getting it running and getting All the guages working. Involved a fair bit of wires tracing and pulling apart the dash, as all this ran off the old ECU And while i was busy doing that, pies was a fucken good cunt and made up my bucket seat mounts for me, so thats done too. Alos mounted in mean thermo fan, that make sthe car die when it comes on if thehead lights are on, so mean. And now its running on some random 15's that came on my datto 1200, and look fucken mint on it (maybe need to be a bit wider at the back) But yes, All that is left is the wheel alighnment (is so out right now it is so scary to drive). Cant wait to drive it properly, I have spent a week and a helf soild on this thing, So pics (sorry not very many, have been to flat out to stop to take pics) Firstyly The way it looked (mostly) for the last year or so (not how lo the rear wheels hang) the diff Head, not very exciting, but cool that I can take it out of the car I love IRS! And the locked center Diff head with no center The difference in front shock lengths Idea of the rear camber now its lowered in the rear And where the fins sat in thre guards on the hoist The motor (not much to look at) Adn how it looks now I think front still maybe sits to high, may recitfy this. Anyway, so Happy, cant wait for track day, which is like, 4 days away. raaar Allan discusson http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=13862
Seedy Al
raar was pretty happy with how it went on the track at track day Number Three few things to fix Main ones being, 1: Re mounting the coil paks on the motor 2: Fixing leaking diff 3: Replacing cnter Hangr bearing for drive shaft And I thkn the vehicle would benerfit from a few more mods for sure need a bigger better radaitor, as temp was creaping up in high revs. And also, front camber is all up the shit, casuing epic understeer sometimes So, I thnk some rose jointed Bottom arms will help dial in a few degrees to over come the over steer a little Still, drfted well raaaaaaaaar Allan
Seedy Al
So given that the next track day is coming up i figured its time to sort out all the shit that isnt right on the old girl So I dragged it back to work after filling the tires with Air, tow started it (starter is all up the shit) And yeah, checked over it as usual. So my list of things to sort out Well, Firstly is the front suspention, when it was hacking the track it tended to under steer, so Im going to rose joint the bottom arms Next would be remount the coil pack as the braket i made broke. After that maybe redo the exhaust as the current one hits the ground sometimes And also, fit a full alloy r32 radaitor as the temp was getting up high last time. So yeah, Seeing as I got it all running, it became time to celebrate (closed roads and shit) As it came out from under my trees at home and some stuff Allan
Seedy Al
ok some up dates have been doing a few things on the cunt, did how ever get destroyed with a cold but heres some shit Finished making the spacer for the starter motor, magaged to take a pic of the template, but failed to take a pic of the accual thing boo hoo and shit Also have re mounted the coil packs as where they were were just getting way to much movement on top of the motor And now im sort of split up on a few jobs have pulled out my spare bottom arms for rose jointing, and had a look, seems i am going to have to mount the sway bar mounts off the strut as opposed to the bottom A arms this shouldnt be to bad to do, just means i will need to dissassemble struts to weld, much sucks but oh well. Going to see my buddy that works at a bearing shop to see what he can do for price etc on the rose joints, want good qualtiy shit, and not sure what sort of quality the stuff i have is at the moment, Also, as for the radatoir, had a measure up and looks like an r32 radatoir will be super sweet , so getting a price also for a full alloy one from red line, all i know is that it should be cheaper than $350 and will completely full my radator support. So no more over heating ever! even in burn outs WIN WIN WIN! and the other thing im looking at now is the exhuast. AS me being me, I need a fucken side pipe. BUT the issue her is my car is low, like low low really, low enough for the current exhuast to smash into the ground on some road bumps. So how to side pipe a low car???? Through the fucken Sill So thats the plan, going to do a 3inch out the passenger side before the wheel. but will run most of the exhuast 2 1/4 for now as its only N/A at the moment but plan to turbo later there is going to be a fair bit of work involved to do it propperly, as I do someday plan on getting it all certed first step so far was making room to get the pipe out the side, which has included C notching the current chassis rail to tuck it up a bit. thats as far as I am now, will buy a 3inch hole saw tomorrow to get the inner sill open Win Anyway pics Template of spacer, now made out of 4mm alloy plate Remounting of coil packs Fisrtly where they were the first time Making of bracket Where bracket is now located And coil packs mounted up and wired (missing leads ovcourse) And the side pipe work First cut out of chassis and 3mm plate welded in Then plated sides with 1.5mm to give extra strength back to sill (will tidy up a little) And where exhuast will be exiting in Sill man, so much usless writing Allan
Seedy Al
So yip, have decided that i will infact be side piping SO much so that I have cut a fucken big hole in my sill haha So heres some sweet sweet pics (read shit pics) So, firstly, i cut a hole in the inner sill, to where i want it to enter. you can also see the sweet prevouisly cut chassis mod Next was to remove the outer sill, and after having a good look reasling there is also a center member in there to, which i had to drill out the spot welds on the out side to realise. Then deciding what how much of the sill to cut out and marking it up then bam, a hole and what the center member looks like, So that gout cut out too for now Then started mocking up the 3 inch as to where it needs to go. I have a lot of work a head of me and fuck all time. Also have ordered my r32 radatior, which is going to be so fucekn good for cooling Almost insanly good, So will pick that up on tuesday most likely Takign pictures and holding stuff at the same time doesnt really give a good indication as to how it will look, but all in very short good time CDL
Seedy Al
ok so took most of the day off to get this pretty much sorted besides a final weld around the pipe and sill and then deciding weather to flush mount or not At the moment thi is how it is Fistly a how much or the sill i had to move to get decent welds going on on inner sill Then re welded on the back of the inner sill And how far the exhuast is which cant be removed from vehicle And the start or rewelding up the outer sill And how it pretty much looks now, which is terrible with all the exposed welding haha the bits used to coonect up to new section from old via a flange And how it looks on the ground, im kind of half half on which way to have it, flush mount would be so sweet, but i like this look too Anyways Love Allan
Seedy Al
So small update. Did the whole skid thing for gazs stag doom. First time out, got some sweet over heating. Turns out my Fan wasnt operating. Did some fun skids though, then on next run out, eletric fan came loose, kinked on an angle and fully brake off three fins, into my radiator core....... So now im not sure i will be able to fix it in time for track day
Seedy Al
Fuck i had to pull this build thread out of the depths thats for sure So anyway, this has beeen sitting round to long, so hvae decided it really is time to sell So first is the warrent\went to VTNZ the other day and asked about side pipe.\they said as long as it isnt functional and I cut it back to the sill then it should not be a problem So sweet. cut it back today. Something told me i wouldnt like the look so much, and i was right, but hey A legal car is a legal car So today went from this To this had a check over, all lights etc are working and everything looks pretty good, Factory seat is back in.
