NewGuy Posted June 14, 2008 Author Share Posted June 14, 2008 Alright so i spent the whole day on the car today, i really didn't achieve much, Couldn't get the Water pump cover to seal to the manifold, and ended up giving up on it, Took all day to get my head around why the oil pump would not pump! Removed the drive shaft from my dads car, will trial fit this tomorrow. After i sorted the oil, i started the car after getting oil pressure, and filled with water and coolant. Started it, checked all over the engine for water leaks, and oil leaks. The water that was weeping had gone so i guess it got put in its place! So i had it running for 3 or so minutes, i then shut her off and pulled the filler plug out. Topped her up with some more water wetter, and started her yet again, when she started getting warm i had to put the choke in. I'm guessing that this is a good sign, Temp gauge came up to just below half and sat there for a good 10mins or so. My 12inch electric fan is mount on the left side of the radiator and i could feel hot going in and warm/cool coming out. When it was at temp i checked all over the head where it had previously leaked, and there was no visible leaks like before so fingers crossed. Shut the engine off it didn't run on at all, got out and checked for any water leaks etc again, none to be found. So i packed up and i am leaving the car over night, rocker cover is ready to remove for a re torque in the morning. Things that i need to sort before road test: New starter wiring Tidy the cabling around the motor Bleed the clutch and Brakes Install drive shaft Get a tank of premium (try get ride of the old fuel in the tank) Check timing with strobe As you wouldn't be able to hear any pinking above 1000 Revs, with no exhaust She sounds like a real monster with no Exhaust shit video from last night. NewGuy Posted June 17, 2008 Author Share Posted June 17, 2008 Spent a few hours on the car tonight, got the driver seat out, old seat belts, carpets, rear seat etc. Cleaned all the paint work down to get all the sticky stuff off. Pulled the seats out of the sprint, My newly fitted belts, Rear seat and fitted it all to the Donor. Put in my car mats and she is starting to look ace already!!! Kept the old carpets of course to cut my new ones out of after i get a Warrant of Fitness etc. Ran out of time but i was going to fit the rear lights up and get all the front ones going. Started it and ran it till it warmed up but i didn't take her for a drive, gonna fit the Tunnel Cover tomorrow (hopefully itl reduce the noise in the car) Carpets that i took out will help make it lighter as well hehehe Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Think im almost ready to put the bonnet on. I bloody knocked my bonnet off the top of my car tonight and bent the thing, so ill have to try and get another dang it. NewGuy Posted June 25, 2008 Author Share Posted June 25, 2008 Spent Sunday arvo on the car, water blasted all under neath her to remove surface rust and old dirt etc. All under the wheel arches aswell and sprayed with under body sealer. I then decided to check the compression of each cylinder, and adjust the plug gap to 0.025 ( it was spitting at 5000Rpm) this did seem to stop it, Plugs were all a good colour, and compression was 170psi on every cylinder. After that i decided i would see how the trans tunnel would fit up. Wouldn't clearthe gear shifter, so i got out the grinder and cut a good inch or so out of it to make it fit. Will have to weld some back in on the other side. Also when i took the tunnel off i had to grind some of the bolts out. So ill most likly have to rivet it to the firewall side which is a bit of a bugger. Also fixed my last oil leak. I couldn't engage my overdrive anymore and i couldn't figure out why. So i had a real good look around and i found where the oil was coming from, it was sitting up on the gearbox X-member. The oil was coming out of the bolt that is just infront of the solenoid, for some reason it was not tight. Im thinking it might be a good idea to drain the oil back out of the gearbox, and check that the oil filter on the bottom of the box is still clean, incase there was crap been held up somewhere. Then refill it with oil. As also i have no idea howmuch oil i dropped out of there. NewGuy Posted June 29, 2008 Author Share Posted June 29, 2008 Alrity Spent the day on the car today well half of it after getting some more fire wood, cleaning around the car burning shit. Replaced all the fuel hoses that go between all the steel hoses etc Replaced the fuel filter after getting ride of the small amount of shit laxing out in the old tank. Shortened the fuel hose in the engine bay, added a fuel filter on the carb side that should hopefully never get dirty Retourqued the head Went for a few strops up and down the road, Overdrive not working again, Bloody switch is being a real pain. Then parked the car up in the clean shed with clean floors etc. Jacked in up nice and high for my Bro in law to work his magic (hopefully coming Tues or Wed) Removed the fuel tanks to check for rust under it, none to be found though which is mint! Plus saftey while he is welding in there etc etc. When i emptied the tank got to see if the fuel light works. Which it does! Man its great to have the original Dash Gauges etc all in there again. All so Put a Oldschool.co.nz Repn Sticker on just cause i can. Sanded the rear end down, Till i found some bog on the left hand side on the bumper, just looks to be a bump etc. Patched up shit as, though the rear has a coupl of dings in it. For now i think it will just get re bogged. Prept the Rear End under the boot for some new underseal. Under Sealed it. Did good thick Patches over the welds etc. Pulled my Boot Lid off my old car and put it on the new Shell. Also Checked all the Suspension Mounting Bolts. Found a leak in the Donors Tank. Pulled my tank out of my old car. Installed it in the donor. Now i dunno if i can get my smiths gauge to power it etc hopefully i can get it to. Re installed rear lights. Dropped the car back down, sitting nice at the back but the front needs the adjusties back in.( After warrent ) Depending on how much lower i could drop the adjusties i think i could pull 175/50s off hard. Attach Bonnet 3. Attach Number Plates Half done one i carn't find my front one at the moment!!!! Founded them 4. Fix Steering. 5. Get Front Left parking Light and indicator going 6. Position Driving Lights 7. Bleed the brakes to make sure they all workin mint 8. Patch Driver Door A pillar Rust hole Done 9. Patch Engine Bay Rust hole by Speedo cable. Done 10. Patch Rust hole on either side of engine were bonet stops go. Done 11. Patch the gearbox cover. Done 12. Decide on the Rear Number plate light arrangement. Decide 13. Primer Doors, Boot, Bonet. 14. Install Turbo. 15. Install some horns. Done got some Shitty Airhorns FTW 16. Tightened up Oil Pump Bolts to stop it leaking. Done Car now has no oil leaks Hunting for a gearbox mounting part, might steal my dads for the wof and get one made after etc. If i get everything done this weekend, Which i should!!!! What i got done, ground down some patches and primered and undersealed Fixed zaust leak Attached plates Attached and wired rear plate light Attached chassis number Got petrol gauge working on the new sender unit Got front left indicator and driving light going Patched gearbox tunnel hole, and covered in dynamat to make it look tough and tidy, it Also stopped a hell of alot of noise, Box, engine, road etc and the draft from there is gone Positioned the passenger and rear doors Primered Passenger side doors, ran out of primer Primered inside of all passenger doors Primered boot Found Gearbox mount washer thing stopped a hell of alot of gear box movement after fitting that also.
