mk2 gt
i want to upgrade my diff, and i was wondering what other diff head would fit in the standard housing for my estate, i think it has the 3.5 in it now and its not strong enough, what other paths could i go down to get a stronger diffi n there without costing an arm and a leg? all help much appreciated
Gaz
What power are you running that makes it not strong enough? The 3.54 already is stronger than the other escort diffs.
mk2 gt
i would say i have around 120hp i am not too sure, i spoke to a guy who i got my replacement diff and he said the 1300cc motors blew them with ease. maybe it doesnt have the 3.54 diff in it i am not sure
Gaz
What size tyres do you have? The reson the 1300 prob blows them is because it cant spin both wheels. Ive had my standard escort diff in for ages and have popped many tires. Diff is still strong as and doesnt whine. Anyways, Only direct bolt in is a Aftermarket LSD head which will set you back in excess of $1200. Could shorten a mk3+ cortina one but that would also cost a bit to shorten. I have a Mustang 8inch set up for an escort I could sell you, or part of a hilux rear end that is mostly usable.
nismo.capri
i would say i have around 120hp i am not too sure, i spoke to a guy who i got my replacement diff and he said the 1300cc motors blew them with ease.maybe it doesnt have the 2.54 diff in it i am not sure I ran 140hp through my capri diff with out a problem. Personally I'd wait until it broke before changing it then I'd just bite the bullet and by a slippery
mk2 gt
i have already blown mine i blew it on the 26th doing a line lock. so thats why i want to upgrade the diff my tires are 185/60r14 with bridgestone conselfa's
Gaz
You had both wheels spinning? I got a mustang one that will fit.
nismo.capri
i have already blown mine i blew it on the 26th doing a line lock. so thats why i want to upgrade the diff Ahhh... then you need an Atlas rear end from a 3L Mk1 capri, the mk1 has the narrow rear. You sould also go for a slippery. Now might be the time to spend the coin and get something way more common with a slippery adapted. Falky, hilux etc..... mk2 gt
Methodz100 - nah, only one was spinning. nismo.capri - will the atlas rear end from the 3L mk1 capri bolt in? also i dont have much coin at the mo other wise i would go for the lsd. would putting something more common in mean lots of fabrication? the previous owner said that the diff i recently blew was tightened thats why you could hear it whineing, that wouldnt contribute to blowing the diff would it? Gaz
Only one spinning was prossiably the reason it broke. Most diffs need big time mods to fit. Ie, mounts shifted, axles shortened and housings shortened, plus stud pattern changed in some cases. For all that to be done your looking $1g if you can find someone to do it cheap. Take my mustang diff off me for $240, you wont break it and it has shocks already on it. Its been in a mk2 before.
mk2 gt
will it bolt in? or will there need to be modifications done to my chassis? how much would it cost to send to auckland?
Gaz
Yeap should go straight in as far as I can see. Umm, dunno bout postage, . Its heavy as hell. Could prob get it to Rotorua for ya before end of Feb if you wanna pick up from there?
mk2 gt
its not a lsd is it? yea i could be keen on it and rotarua sounds good
Gaz
Nah its not LSD. But you can get LSD heads for them. The diff will handle over 500hp easy so you wont break it anytime fast.
