Gaz
Ok have decided to start/finish this car for new years. A new 205 block is in Otrahonga getting bored and balanced as we speak. Have all the parts to build it. Alot to do to complete and id really like it done in 2 weeks. Im taking next week off and going to try crack most of it out in 9 days. Small list of the things that need doing: Try convert to rack and pinion steering. (biggie) Modify sump and oil pickup Custom exhaust Mod my extractors Fit 5 speed box Mod tunnel to do so. Shorten driveshaft. Custom radiator on the way Ubolts for my blocks. Sort front springs Fix one wheel Mount the buckets Find some calipers Relocate handbrake Hook stereo and a guage or two up Pull engine out of escort and into cortina (if new one isnt built) Try for WOF or cert . Yeah there is surelly more but cant think right now. Should be a good mission. Today I put some lowering blocks in to measure what size ubolts I needed. Ended up with car on floor as follows. haha. Motivated me however.
Gaz
Ok made a good start today. Am attempting to convert to a steering rack and xmember out of an escort with possiably sierra column. First thing id like to say is... Im sick of wankers on the net saying things fit and "this bolts straight in" etc when it plain doesnt. Escort xmember doesnt bolt in.. Needs attacking with the grinder and then new holes drilled to mount it into car.. as follows: Will end up using this and perhaps shortening the cortina arms to work with this. Then cortina legs also. Dont know that far yet. Brought these for $100 to sort the camber out: Umm, cut out the part where the gbox was fouling: Sussed out what im doing for cooling with a 14inch fan and get the standard cortina rad recored with 3 or 4 rows. When got the ubolts on and let car down turned out the gaurds did hit big time. Need them lipped so took the blocks back out. This is how it sits with the blocks in and all sorted: hmm thats bout it. Gaz
Ok, crossmember in place and bolted in. After searching around have found some sierra bottom arms that will fit. Will give 1/8' +camber but I can correct that with the top camber plates.. or by moving lower arm mount in on the crossmember. Was going to make some adjustable lower arms but turns out new cert rules basically stop this. Need to mod the sway bar slightly to fit Im thinking. Find out after dinner. Um brought electric fan 14" which should cool it ok.
Gaz
Rack in! New nolothanes, tie rods and boots. Painted. Looks ok. Crossmember modded, welded, painted and in. Gearbox xmember modded welded and in. Driveshaft off getting sorted. $90 Electric fan and radiator doesnt want to fit. My bad. Grinder needed. Exhaust system in 2.25inch with a resonator, turbo flow centre muffler and 3 flanges... $650. Might try some other places for quotes. Gaz
Cut out more Rack painted. Crossmember, rack in with sway bar fixed in place. Gbox xmember in fixed and nice and high. In standard place of the 4speed. Pickapart helped me out today with steering linkages. Things to do: Sump needs modding to clear xmember Engine needs to be pulled out of escort and put into cortina.... might fit.. 4pots need bolting on with adaptors made Top camber plates need modding Driveshaft needs picking up and installing Headers prob wont fit so customs ones will be fabricated. (chrome ones will be up for sale if so.. $250 could own em perhaps) Seat mounts need to be finished Driveshaft loop needs to be made hmm thats bout it.. small/long list but the hard stuff is done. Gaz
So much work to do. So many custom brackets made. My week off is basically finished and car unfinished. The old man is coming down next weekend and think I might get him to bring the new engine down. He can give me a hand putting it in that way 80% finished
Gaz
Just got engine picked up. Mint job done. Cost over $1000 for the bottom end but at least its mint. Rods have been stress relieved, decked block, all new everything inside, dowled and lightened flywheel, full balance.. (they even machined the crank to match each bearing. Thats blueprint type of shit isnt it?) Yeah so all ready to put pistons and rods in and get the head bolted in. Should be a sweet as bottom end right hur. Gaz
Finally doing some work on it over 2 week break. Sump modded. Bowl cut off and flipped/increased size. Sway bar goes through the front so used a bit of tube to make way for it. Bit rough job but itll do as noone see's under there. Brought 80 new stainless cap screws...$$$ sHIt!! Sealed wheel up again and installed.. Looking way better.. BC Wheels told me to torque them to 38Nm.. 30Nm is what I got too before deciding they were tight enough... 38Nm feels like they will shear off!. Shortblock is all togther with high flow oil pump, balenced, lightened, strengthened. painted too, maybe pics later but not too exciting. Kelford lost my billet cam for 1 week but have no found.. hopefully it comes back tommorrow so engine can be installed over weekend. Got rebuild kit for the 45 webber I am putting on.. Also have new bearings and seals for gbox which is in peices... Syncros were fine. Braided fuel line is on its way just gotta go buy clips to attatch under body.. $3.50 each!!! Fucking ripco. Extractors from Mitch didnt fit so will go with standard manifold rangified to fit for now..then get customs made when I get another $450. Two new 195/45/15's on their way.. good ol $85 new each trademe chiniese shittas.. Only a daily so lets see how they go for now.. they fit the budget I guess. Umm, numerous other shit sorted like seats mounted and a MINT floating bearibng arangement in firewall for new steering column to go through. Prob get some pics cause its hawt. Stereo install still lacking.. might go glovebox headunit stz FTW. Hush hush.. welded nut on end of tierod ends to allow extra adjustment to sort the toe in problem I had. Will do for now untill I sort something better/prob never change. Um yeah, thats prob about it. This weekend is a biggie. Rebuild carb and gbox. Dial in cam. Install engine, Install headunit and speakers, and alarm. Sunday night/monday sort/make whole wiring loom then turn key and run in cam/engine. Gotta make radiator fit too. Yup thats bout it. Gotta be drivable by Wednesday but not looking to hopefull known all the little things that always go wrong.

Mounted a gauge and made a fucking cool as floating type bearing for the new steering column. Is fucking magic if I do say so myself. Cleaned head parts plus engine mounts painted. Oh, and have sealed the rim again.. fingers crossed... third time lucky. Tacho on the right mounted in air vent. here is my bracket that mounts on firewall to hold steering column.. Cheers to Millz / M_house on here for welding it all up. G cunt. Boring gbox. Boring engine pic. Random rim that wont seal.. Gaz
Another day another $$$. Since have almost given up with getting it going, I got up at 10:00. Made a fucking mean slice of raisin toast and smoked some butter on it. Then came on OS and talked some shit.. Then took two wheels off my car, took them and my new tyres into mates to fit. Took ages but got them fitted and balanced.. 40g weights on two of em to balance...! Then I brought some timber from Ajays Emporium... FFTW...$6.50 Then I went and got ripped of at repco on brake and slave rekits.. ..actually didnt cause I got a trade card now. Went home and built a mint rear parcel shelf and then put speakers in it. Then realised Id forgoten the rear engine frost plug so went back to get it.. by this time it was 4. Finished of parcel shelf, cooked dinner for my olds, realised had no plate that goes between gbox and block. Looked in shed for 20mins, thought FUCKIT and came back on OS with some pics... Yup, tools all still outside, its raining, I dont care. Some pics for your viewing pleasure/ shit camera/ dark/ powercord in rain/ on/ hope some shitskin comes and tries to rob something/ steps in puddle/ gets BURNT/ BANG Didnt want alot of stretch, didnt really get any to be honest, but looks tough none the less Mint parcel shelf Me made. Just needs a bit of glue to hold carpet type shit on there in places. The bearing thing for steering column. Bit overkill I guess but works mint. Gotta lub this too. Gaz
Ok didnt get quite where I wanted to but got ALOT done in the 10 days. Still have to sort loom, rebuild carb, sort markshift extractors, run in cam+engine and a few little niggly bits for cert/wof if thats the way I go. Prob wont get another play with it untill Novemember but should have it ready to cruise for summer. Few more pics for your enjoyment. Got the car rolling and sitting with engine in.. Springs have been unloaded since 1996 so it has a bit of weight to get used to. Trial towed the steering setup and it works well. Springs settled 30mm each side but still hilux as. Def need so leaf reset and custom fronts or compressed front springs. Gold rocker cover.. Similar/same colour as wheels. Is called gold dust and gave it a red oxide primmer to make the gold deeper. Will also be doig thin gold pinstrip down length of car once repainted white. Still gotta patch this. Sump in all its glory Engine before it went in Differance of standard flywheel compared to mine. Notice the whole rear peice of meat missing Pretty boring pic of my head. Standard valves, scleaned ports, nothing at all special lol. Lead free inserts, new valve steam seals, Kelford FR32 billet camshaft.
