escortwags Posted October 11, 2005 Share Posted October 11, 2005 i know this has probly been talked about a million times but i couldnt find it after searching for hours.. im putting a 2litre in my escort wags and im pretty much done except the starter motor..i bolted up the original eski box with its starter motor on and it wouldnt engage the flywheel (its the older starter motor without the solenoid on the back) then tryed using the one off the cortina 4speed box on the escort box (the cortina boxwas originaly on the motor) but that wouldnt grab the fly wheel either!! instead of giving the tunnel a bit of love to fit the bigger 4speed box (which ill do if need be) just wondering what starter motors other people are using on theier 2litre conversions cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

esky boi Posted October 11, 2005 Share Posted October 11, 2005 Yea the Escort one wont work becuase the cortina flywheel sits closer (or is it further?.. lol doesnt matter, its different anyway) away from the motor. There shouldnt be any reason why the Cortina one wont work.. You shure its wired up properly? It should have the solenoid attatched to the starter motor right? So for a start you wont be needing the original esky one which sits on the inner guard.. just wire the battery etc directly to the solenoid on the starter motor. Oh yea, only one of the small wires that goes to the oringinal esky solenoid is needed for the cortina one... the black one with the red stripe I think it is... Thats how I did it anyway, using the 5spd sierra box tho. But shouldnt make a difference what box is used.. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
