drftnmaz
i was wondering how to re-jet a SU carb, as in where the jets are in it??? i seem to remmember something bout them being in the needle? and where to get the jets from? its a carb off a 2l thats going on a 1.3l
CaMpylobacter
you change the needle, and the thing that sticks out the bottom that moves downward when you turn the choke on is like a jet, which can be changed also.... what size s.u. is it? 1.75/2" you'd get them from a rover/jag specialist I'd imagine, or somewhere that deals heavuly with minis
drftnmaz
i think its a 2" from memory... i'll dig it out tonight and see... i have a mate that works at a bmc place... can you interchange the needle's from say a 1.75" to a 2" ? SYKOV6
if its a 2" its likely off a jag or a v8 rover since these cars ran multiple carbs the jetting may not be 2 far out id try it n see
drftnmaz
it was off a 2l turbo mg montego... so the chances it'll b rite for my turbo 1300 are slim
SYKOV6
jeez those poms are backwards didnt even realise they made such a later model turbo car with a carb far out is it the old stylz su or the newer constant velocity type?
drftnmaz
the real funny thing abouts the poms is the non-turbo version is injected. i donno he difference between the two, care to explain? btw; its only a 1.75" carb the montego ran a t3 blow through setup non-crossflow and used a malpassi fuel reg (which i stupidly left on car wen i stripped it)
Draizuh
Datsun's also used SU type carbs. might get a similar jet but they were generally used on 2.4 and upwards engines..
SYKOV6
the early type has an adjustable nut on the bot under the mian casting you can use this to adjust the mixture as it raises or lowers the main jet letting more or less fuel through you can also do this on the needle but that is for more fine adjustments. the newer cv type dont have this adjustable jet it is done by vacuum as there is a diafram in the bott housing so it does it itself. the newer ones are a better carb but the older ones are more adjustable so can b used on different setups without reworking the whole carb
drftnmaz
ok i'm still a little confused about this.. i've got the car running now and its overfueling majoly. i'm getting a more suited carb tonight. its the late model carb, i thought you would take the top bit off and change the needle but i can't see how this would help anything? i thought the needle would have two holes in it and when that thing floated up from vacum then it would open the holes at different levels, but clearly i am wrong. could someone explain this a bit better to me please
Guest orange_mini
Inch and 3 quarters are off Metros as well which are 1.3 so I dont know why it would be over fuelling that badly on a turbo. Its needles and springs for SUs. Only 300 needles to choose from though. Probably find the same problem with webers or dellortos where you have venturis and jets. A mate saw a stalet with a 5k and a bigger SU carb than that. I'm pretty sure all SUs are constant velocity. No accelerater pumps yee ha
