Mr.Mk1
So ive started to cut out the rear tubs, proving a cunt, as the boot bracing that goes to the wheel tub is hard to get at and i need a Plasma for the weekend (cheers brother) to whip them out fully. Also got a free Hilux rear diff housing. yeah

Mr.Mk1
I have aquired a Hilux rear end, drum to drum, and will collect it this weekend along with the S12 front I have in stock at my parentals..let the fun begin!
Mr.Mk1
^pertaining to the aforementioned, here are some illustrations. I didnt get any of the diff, because they all look rather similar. It came out of the Hilux a dream, easiest extraction ive done yet. Front of the S12 wasnt too hard either thanks to the old man attacking it with the front end loader and rat gun. I was dropped to see how close the front was to Escort size. Of course there will be heavy modifcations to fit it nicely, but fuck, pretty close Ted. Mr.Mk1
6 Long years of ownership now. Have never forgotten about it, recently been tucked away in an ancient Barn while I save funds/Spend money on Datsuns
Popular Post Mr.Mk1
The time has come! You only need to scroll up to see how dormant it’s been..got it trailered up in the weekend, time has taken its toll with rat piss and shit and surface rust in thin areas but she’s still great! after clearing it out and cleaning it, tucked it into garage. Then I cut the tubs out of this drum I’ve had in waiting. unfortunately the rotisserie is still down south so that halts progress, probably try score some steel and make another one. 25
Popular Post Mr.Mk1
I got this diff from Dan for less than labeled after deciding the hilux diff was too heavy, the caliper conversion situation, handbrake creation and it wasn’t lsd. this is! easily available, inboard handbrake and disc brake already. The GT2871r I had was pronounced dead due to cost of repair. Then a mate popped up with this, got it for a song and will be a nice wee upgrade whizzer. Heres another escort with CA. The angled engine bugs me, it’s factory but I can’t handle it so I’m going to upright mine. I’ll have to change mounts anyway, tweak the shifter to suit. I have a brand new genuine oil pump as well. If she blows up we’ll try again. its well documented these days how to do this head drain mod so will do that. Today I sorted out lots of nuts/bolts/screws and put them into an organiser case for the first time in my life, reorganised the boxes, tore the front and rear ends out, front off, bumper off ready for the spit this week. Had a scotch with the dog while sitting in the back seat. She was more interested in the reflections

Mr.Mk1
I brought some cool suspension and brakey bits from nickm, will disclose when I have them and sort through.. also got timken rear wheel bearings, metallic pads, caliper kits, UJ and some sundry items from work. I’ve been a bit off this week and have had to shit 350% more than normal so haven’t layed into it but have done a little more on the rear tubs
Popular Post Mr.Mk1
Tacked in some patches deleting factory exhaust mounts and stuff. laid into the chassis rails with a dent puller to make them nice and crisp again. Some bits I cut out and flattened instead.. They weren’t horrendous but I want them straight. And I can pump rust kill into the rails
Mr.Mk1
big thanks to nickm, went to collect the bits I was after and he loaded me up with lots of other crap too! more space in his shop, less in mine but I’m stoked. Unfortunately the cert bible says I should have 280mm vented discs and twinpot calipers so these won’t be useful but I’ll pass them on and look for some skyline ones.
Popular Post Mr.Mk1
Few holes filled or re-repaired. I spent a while on the tubs and have had to change my plan.. I wanted nice radius’s on edges but that was going to cost me about 3.5inch so I went with function over form and will have square edges. Ran out of panel steel so once I get a new sheet I’ll finish them up. deleting exhaust hanger mounts behind wheel arch Did this x2 they are either side of handbrake. I think there was something to do with the flip seats on the tunnel? Been a while since I cut whatever it was out. Drivers floor is the worst of the pan, getting a bit thin! The underseal had worked fucking well cant tell but there’s decent ridges that needed recreated i also Brought a brand new set of Z flex Tein adjustables for S13 through work, they cost more than other brands but I like the fact they can be fullly serviced. Some of these lesser name brands are a real mission to find bushes and things when they wear out. Hakon was the next in line but aftersale support was a ? didnt hurt that my end goal is a green and gold colour scheme. about the darest single purchase I’ve ever made for parts and it was still at staff cost.. tight fo’ life
Popular Post Mr.Mk1
Been rinsed by work lately so just chillin. needed to do something so I looked into the passenger wheel arch Years old shit patch blew through while welding so I stopped. Present day I chopped it out and took it all out, wire wheeled and rust killed. It was going so well I failed to take a pic when finished, realised as I was priming.. might have secured a matching standard CA bottom end. got flywheel ground.

Popular Post Mr.Mk1
Welded the tubs and zinc sprayed. First one went well, second was a bit gappy and had some blowouts but cleaned up ok.Will be smeared in sealer when finished so.. Left the ends Incase I need some movement for final fit. The escort heater bubbles always rust out. Mine was decent but it was certainly going to reappear if not chopped out fully. I made some patches years back and glued them in today. Hit it with the sand blaster first, the rust started again since I had bare metalled areas before storage. That lip usually pokes out an inch the whole way but I’ve pushed it down for clearance of engine and to drain better. It can chill like this until I start mounting stuff and then can be trimmed more or brought back up or whatever. i started on another patch but left the rust killer and copper spray drying, filled some screw holes & pinholes and called it a day.
