Escort Blowing smoke

So i fired up my escort today. I replaced the spark plugs and did a compression test on the cylinders. the cylinder nearest to the firewall was down a bit but some oil fixed that. but the trouble is its blowing smoke like nothing else. its not oil coz the smoke is like pure white! Any ideas as to what it is? Its kinda deadly the amount of smoke it blows. i was thinking it could be shit in the exaust pipe or it could be shit in the engine.. its been siting for 2 years. Anyone have a clue?

i thought blue smoke was oil? hah.

The compressions were about 150 on all and number 4 was down at 110 at first and then 140

We didnt leave it hot very long. bout 10 minutes? cant drive it coz ithe battery didnt fit and it was connecting using wrenches. couldnt find any terminals haha

blue smoke is oil getting burnt past the piston rings...white smoke is oil burnt somewhere else. I'd say it was your turbo if you had one...when a turbo blows it makes a white smoke cloud to put Batman to shame.

what sort of oil did you put in it?

Is the No.4 Spark Plug all oily looking after running? The oil you added in there has just proven that the rings are a bit sad on that cylinder, that's why I asked if it has been hot. Don't NORMALLY get rings so different on just one cylinder if it was just wear, more likely that the engine has had a bit of a cook up and possibly nipped the piston in the bore, so could stop a good seal and allows the oil to pump up the side of the piston which burns HEAPS of oil. OR it could just be something simple like a broken ring or two.

Let us know if it clears after a run.

yeah if it's a pinto 2L sometime no.4 cyclinder suffers from a bit of heatsoak. Some people route a water outlet from the drain hole in the block to fix this problem.

Yeah is pretty common for any engine to damage the rear cylinder first as it's further away from the waterpump and radiator.
