  1. Certainly not apples with apples, but when you look at the lengths some of the teams in the Aussie sport series of the 70s went to... Chargers and the like, with the firewall cut away and the right-hand bank's rocker cover nestled somewhere left and below the driver's elbow.

The wife's Fabia was a horrific thing by the numbers - A small hatch with close to 680kg over the driver's side front wheel - That's more than any V8 Falcon.

have discovered in the vehicle settings, energy manager, there is a toggle to change the range display from STANDARD to DYNAMIC. This changed the displayed range this morning from 320 to 270. 270 is much more accurate but still wrong by about 90km.

Also, what have you got your rubber pumped up to? I'd want to be seeing 40psi cold as a starting point.

Kiwis seem to be really shy about getting tire pressure high enough - I used to have my Skodas and the wife's Niro come back from a service where they'd lowered the pressures down to about 32 and left a note on the paperwork saying "All tire pressures excessively high".  Not if they read the fucking manual...

Have seen a few CUPRA around recently that I didn't even know existed till I saw one. Won't be BYD pricing range though I don't imagine. Decent looking cars though IMO.

The little CUPRA hatch? It'll be a hoot to drive - Seat is VW's mental Spanish cousin and CUPRA was their performance arm.

They've now split it, so CUPRA is a brand in it's own right.

  4. Haven't hit advertised range in the 6 yet, but you can see the difference in range/consumption on the warmer days we've been having.

Book says 484 Km, but Americans are pulling close to 400 miles with the heat they've had over summer.

What kind of driving do you do though? These are the other way around to ICE, so hauling arse around town and up to about 80kph is seriously efficient, open road not so much.

  5. Are they linked?

105/120Ls had a thin piece of tube that ran from the top of the rad (up front), along the top of the front guard with a small bleed tap up near the base of the windscreen.  It drained into the gutter/channel that the bonnet edge closed into on the guard.

    Foolproof for bleeding.

  6. Charger unit installed today - Comes with a bunch of RFID tags, or you can run it via an app - Z-Box - Which really doesn't like Android Bluetooth at the moment, so that took a little bit of head scratching to get things underway.

Thankfully the wife has an iPhone as a work phone, so we got the initial setup done on there and then activated the wifi control - All connected now on the Androids, and showing about 4hrs to juice the 6 up, as opposed to the 68-72hrs via Level 1 (3-pin plug, 6A).

Thanks! Yeah seems to attract a few yarns - it’s a 50/50 split as to whether modern engine etc is cool or sacrilege.

Not knowing about what was under the bonnet, I wouldn't have picked such a modern transplant - When you spun around to catch up with that gaggle of Mk1s, it sounded just like a healthy, period-modded engine.

  8. Loving the presentation on this mate! I was sitting at The Cabbage Tree having a coffee in Tirau when you parked up on Saturday - I was going to wander over and ask if you were an Oldschooler, but the Barry brigade had wandered over to you and started yarning so I left you to it.
