  1. True, there are at least 2-3 MG RV8s that are local that I've seen at shows before... Wonder what won/will win peoples choice?
  2. Phwoar Triumph looks great, yeah I did a lap around 9-10 so I might have missed you. A few missing marques at the show...
  3. Silvia is quite tame to drive...if you stay under 3500 rpm Knowing how hard it is to organise a time to do noisy work on cars that doesn't wake the boys the $6900 Imp in Chch looks pretty appealing...just need to stop buying stuff like the Volvo!
  4. I saw the Chevette today too, well I assume there's only one white sedan! Talked to a really nice lady with an Imp, I'm starting to plant the idea in my wife's head... Did the 2500 make it to the show? I think my brothers car was a bit of a dick magnet...
  5. Good to meet you and Hannah too we'll see y'all on Sunday Seeing the Viva in the flesh has bro and I more than a little inspired! Not too sure exactly what to do with said inspiration yet, probably saving some $ for a good base vehicle would be a start...looking at something that my Hannah thinks is awesome would probably be a good start... but not a Honda Odyssey
  6. Will keep an eye out for the Viva, I'll be in a gunmetal S15 Silvia with gold wheels...
  7. You can up the km limit, I think my brother has 8000, but premiums go up accordingly.
  8. I can see that having a garage is a definite good idea, however (in Nelson anyway) Classic Cover seems to have a bit of flexibility regarding garaging. My brother shifted house and now has no garage, they agreed that a car cover and parked off the road was fine, no change in premium or excess either. To be honest I don't even use 90 % of the available performance in my Mazda Demio most of the time.
  9. My brothers entering his Silvia into the show. He's also getting married tomorrow, the 3 wedding cars = his S15, my Volvo and a beautiful black Triumph Mayflower. Quite the unusual trio!
  10. Hmmmm I might have to do that. I used that Ados F2 spray as well, bit gutted it failed under the heat of the day today despite being perfect last night. I guess a black car provides a fair whack of heat just under the roof...
  11. Priorities 1 Radiator Leak Interim fixed Rislone liquid copper 2 Blown blub warning (only because it should be a quick fix) Fixed 3 LH Indicator flashing faster when braking (hopefully sorted with 2) Fixed 4 ABS check light sorting Hasn't had issues rxsumo described in the 500 km or so I've driven it so assuming it's not an issue when ABS control unit has no fuse...still needs to be fixed properly 5 SRS check light sorting 6/7 Oil leak Interim fixed Rislone rear main seal repair, has definitely decreased it, need to go nuts with degreaser to confirm 6/7 Rear engine mount 8 Rotate tyres and get 205/50-16s for front 9 Loose headlining stuck back on! fixed, then hot day peeled it again...currently staple gunned... 10 PROFIT!
  12. No dragging needed! Will tag along with whomever would like a fuel paying passenger...or bring out the Volvo...
  13. Good reminder, I often miss this! Would be cool to join in cruise...though as I fail at OSlyfe it might not be with you chaps...
  14. Interesting thought, good to have another perspective, just in case it was that simple! The amount of guard clearance is ridiculous <10mm fore and aft of front wheels. I have no idea how it actually turns. No more slam is possible until I get correct tyre profile. It's going to be a wedding car next weekend so I've got to get polishing.
  15. Thanks heaps for the offer, dash is pretty tidy, not obviously warped at this stage, will almost certainly need to have an eLook through your relays/electrics bin at some stage in the not too distant future! Will wait for Vadis/owners handbook so I can get my head around a few bits n pieces...
  16. Ha well, I'm suspicious that the previous owner did the same...plus installed a blown fuse into the ABS control box slot, no warning lights whatsoever...
  17. That 850R wagon is pretty cool...my brother was looking at it after playing in mine, but he wants something more spendy/lower ks/hopefully less boy juice rubbed on it...the squareness of the 850 wagon gets me a little excited... I find the number of volvo enthusiasts online amazing(perhaps says something about their personalities too...), there is soooo much info it's a bit overwhelming. Most fixes seem to have an illustrated walk through attached. Priorities 1 Radiator Leak 2 Blown blub warning (only because it should be a quick fix) 3 LH Indicator flashing faster when braking (hopefully sorted with 2) 4 ABS check light sorting (would be sweet if that could be elaborated on?)5 SRS check light sorting 6/7 Oil leak 6/7 Rear engine mount 8 Rotate tyres and get 205/50-16s for front 9 Loose headlining stuck back on! 10 PROFIT!
  18. Emailed Eurolux today....turns out they only deal with Saabs now...bugger, perhaps I need to wait for something to actually go wrong rather than assuming the worst! Sooooo silky smooth to drive. I'm thinking that this might justify me looking for a better starting point Quite the opposite but phwoarrrr that blue one has an awesome patina... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 138110.htm
  19. Good to know, I guess the moral of the story is there's no point nursing this behemoth WIN!
  20. Gah, opened fuel flap to discover that it should have been riding on 205/50-16s, rather than 205/55-16s it came on (means the new tyres I bough are the wrong motherfuckin' size). That will explain some of the pessimsitc speedo reading, GPS reckons 106km/h when you're doing an indicated 100. Also explains what rxsumo meant when he said the guards were damaged from the wheels being too big... so the traction control can be turned off you say... I'm getting good at using the OBD lights, todays check engine light was in regards to it not kicking down when it was supposed to. Assume/Hope it was a one off as it could become a bit like the boy that cried wolf... The 5 cylinder burble is more than a little addictive, I do like the sound of that video, though no way is this car worth that sort of investment! There's chips on eBay that promise 300 hp/430 Nm of torque for around NZ$140 landed if it lasts more than a week I might look into it! Only managed 11L/100km nursing it over to Kaiteriteri at around 90km/h. Could be something to do with this error code A2 231 Long term fuel trim, part load as I only managed to get as low as 13L/100km on day one with testing all the combinations of gear/sport economy modes. It's keeping me entertained, I like that I don't have enough invested to care too much if it goes pop...
  21. Oh yeah, in no way is it 'oldschool'! The most featured specced car I've ever driven, let alone owned. New testing station wof today...total fail = 1 new tyre, with notes on oil leak and a worn rear engine mount, all of which I'd seen coming. 2 new tyres weren't even too expensive $298 fitted for Kumhos. Wife wonders why I'm not over the moon, I guess it still seems like there must be a catch aside from the prodigious thirst! 200km completed so far and nothing has actually fallen off, long may it continue, going to be used as a wedding car in a couple of weeks. Will start an other projects thread once it's actually clean...and I figure out my plans for what's next...
  22. Ah Eurolux, knew that they specialised in Saabs (I have a bit of a Swedish crush...), didn't know about the Volvos, will keep 'em in mind! I too lust after a wagon...I see this as a gateway drug. First Euro, + first turbo...all downhill from here! My Corolla BZ Touring ate 4 Goodyear NCT 5 in 10,000km when I used to head Nelson-Queenstown-Nelson each weekend so I know a thing or two about tyre chewers. My cornering speeds have slowed down somewhat with wahine and tamariki in tow, if I can average 11L/100km I'll be stoked. Just need to use it for road trips... I've ordered Vadis (the Volvo factory workshop manual from the UK) so hoping I can fix the few issues that have been brought to my attention (thanks heaps rxsumo) and keep it going as long as possible. Here it is just fresh at home, everyone seems to love it so far, it's a pretty cool looking machine, my brother (S15 with RB26) thinks it's wonderful. Has a nice torquey surge, well suited to auto IMO. But the million dollar question really is...is it OS build thread worthy?
  23. On further investigation the "260hp" is the least of the sellers description I'm concerned about! Hoping that it all pans out when I pick it up tomorrow... This sounds interesting but hard to imagine without an engine bay in front of me is there a good workshop manual that I should keep an eye out for? Or just come to OS crying every time I need to check the oil level...?
  24. Good to get a reality check of a morning! How does $1200 stack up with what he paid for it....?
