  1. Fuel, do you know the differences in the G63b and 4g63 heads? What can/cant be swapped if anything at all...
  2. Can anyone confirm the setup in a 4G61? Is this solid lifters? May be able to use the Cam and Lifters out of one of these? I am changing the cam profile anyway so if I can make the original cam work with the solid lifters? I pulled up these part numbers on the interwebs from a 4G61, people have done this conversion on a 6g64, not sure on the comparability on a g63b Intake A MD023225 qty 2 Intake B MD040780 qty 2 Exhaust C MD023226 qty 2 Exhaust D MD040781 qty 2 Adjuster screw MD065628 qty 8 Locking Nut MD000961 qty 8
  3. Hey Guys, I have a question for the mitsy guys among us: Is there solid lifters available for a G63B? I am getting some work done to make the thing rev but the hydraulic lifters will be my shortfall - any other heads that have solid lifters I can rob from that will work?
  4. Yeah sorry my block is stamped with G63B, so converting this to dohc is not worthwhile and I am better off finding a later model 4g63 DOHC - Will my current mounts fit? I wasnt aware the 4g63 swap required sump and pickup swaps also? This is all going into a Lancer EX - I have the mounts to mount the G63B into the EX.
  5. Do any 16v heads exist that still use a dizzy that bolt on? All the later model stuff is EFI as far as I can tell or has a cam angle sensor which I am trying to avoid as that required modifying the firewall to fit it. Or maybe a late model 4g63 with a RVR Turbo CAS sensor to run the spark off of as I hear those are not as large?
  6. Not sure on year.. but it's the same engine found in Sigma's, L300's etc.. 80's 4g63b. Just researching ways to get a bit more performance out of the thing as it needs a full rebuild anyway.
  7. So any head from the same series engine you can guarantee will be interchangeable between each other? 4g61, 4g63, 4g64 etc?
  8. Did some searching but cant find the info I am looking for... Hopefully you guys can answer this quick question... I have a 4g63b (SOHC) which is in the process of being rebuilt. Are there any bolt on head options with larger valves like 4g54 etc, do these fit?
  9. Well I got the donor car... Seems to be running the standard EX box. Once I have it apart I guess I will see what clutch etc it is running.
  10. Hey Guys, I know this have been covered many many times but dredging through the old threads I cannot find a difinitive question around the clutch setup. I have the opportunity to buy another donar EX with a 4g63 in it - Not sure if this is running a sigma or whatever box but I am wanting to run the standard EX 5 speed. I have the 1600cc in my car so I know the crossmember will fit and engine will bolt up to current box, should be able to swap the mounts (if they have used genuine 4g63 rubbe mounts). Will the 4g32 clutch plate and pressure plate bolt up the the 4g63? - What are the options here? I am hoping I can get something to work between the 4g32 and 4g63. Also do I need to change to a starter from a 4g63 powered vehicle as the flywheels will be different? One more thing... Will the accellerator cabel match up to the 4g63 with stock carb?
  11. Yeah was hoping on that as did not want to leave the car unattended at the mooring (still need to get address)
  12. Hey Guys, Looking to go on a boating trip - Boat is moored at Panmure. Not keen on leaving a car for the two days (Leaving Friday 30th, Coming back Sunday 1st). Is there anyone that lives in the area or close by where we could leave the car safely and be dropped off/picked up where the boat is moored? Open to any other suggestions as we are heading up from Cambridge.
  13. Are you still doing these and putting them up for sale?
  14. Yep those things. Edited my original post to suit as I have always known them by that name. Cheers
  15. What s your opinion on torque sticks/Impact Torsion Bar for impacts - do they work? Whats the story on using them for wheel nuts? Use a lower torque and tighten by hand?
  16. I am confident I can get a trigger wheel made up no problem. A quick google brought up this: http://www.msel.co.nz/Hall-Effect-Gear-Tooth-Speed-Sensor-Unterminated Will any old sensor do? Or does the ECU need to know the manufacturer/type of sensor to account for changes in resistance differences etc with different sensors? can you set this manually? I am probably geting out of my depdth now.. Never dealt with this stuff before...
  17. Do both the pickup and the wheel came from a Ford.. No idea what vehicle/engine? I did come across a firm who custom makes these but if I remember right they were $600+ for the wheel and another cost for the sensor.. way out of my price range
  18. Bangbug that sounds like just what I need.. If an Atom will do the job.. you sound pretty familiar with it and the way I want to go. I really want to keep the engine as stock as I can so I just need to worry about bolting it in. I am in the Waikato (Cambridge), I see you are in auckland.. I am hardly every over that way but if you are over this way any time soon a look at your ute would probably answer alot of my questions.
  19. Okay SO I have two options: 1. Find later model Cam and Crank sensors and adapt these to fit. 2. Buy/Find a trigger wheel to attach to the crank. For this ssetup of basic engine management, no boost or anythingspecial.. which is the best ECU to go with? Stick with whatever the tuner uses? I take it this isnt for the feint hearted and cannot tackle this myself?
  20. Few reasons why I dont want to touch the firewall.. Im one of those OCD people where missing paint, welds, primer etc will bug me. The cost to modify the firewall and repaint is not really worth it unless I was doing the whole car, then I would strip the engine bay and do it all at once. The ECU I have may have been from an auto.. Im not sure if it has any automatic wizardry which might make it unusable for my purpose. Also the ECU was left out in the rain for a few days as engine/components were dropped on the doorstep in the pouring rain left for me to deal with days later so not sure if this is in a working state and no way to test. If I got custom ECU now and get this engine running by only sourcing 1-2 sensors that would make me happy. Will also give me the option to run any engine in the future or even turbo. Hope I dont sound to silly and cought up in myself with the above... Let me know what you guys think.
  21. Any telltale signs of which gen it is? It believe it's from a 94-96 mirage. Any vehicles to look out for the later crank and cam sensors? anything 98+ I suppose like the lancer wagons, mirages, RVR?
  22. Hi Guys, I am finally making a start in putting my 4g92 in my EX but have come up with a few questions I cannot answer myself and Google-Fu is failing me. I am wanting to remove the CAS from the back of the head to make room between engine and firewall - This has led me to a custom ECU for this task (Not sure which way to go here yet). I beleive the CAS provides a Crank and Cam signal for the ECU. Will I get away with buying a trigger wheel and running this off the crank? Is this all I need, Do I require a TPS also? or is this dependant on the ECU/setup I choose? Any thoughts on this regard will be greatful and in laymans terms
  23. Hi Guys, I am in need of a workshop with a press, vice etc I can have use of for a day. I have alot of suspension, steering work to do on my car and have Bearings and Bushes that need to be pressed Out/In, but I dont have the tools required. Any help will be appreciated
  24. I have just been through this exercise for my EX. and have compiled a bit of a spreadsheet of the part numbers and when I found them - I have no yet checked with repco or supercheap yet as in my experience for this sort of thing they are far more expensive without a discount. One difference to be noted from this thread is the EX sway bar D-Bush is 15mm ID and not 20mm ID as online websites and this thread suggests. The links I have added were just for my purposes to quickly bring up images/description of the parts - no affiliation with these websites or suppliers, for description purposes only. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ltkormsrjgom0fa/EX%20Bushes.xlsx?dl=0 I also have shocks on this list also, they are there for myself but feel free to use this info if you need new shocks also. Hope this helps you guys and can be a help to this excellent community.
