I enjoyed this. I think this is the first time in 2 years of living in Auckland I've taken an old car to an event in Auckland.

Having been a long time Wellington meet attendee, and not so much an Auckland meet attendee, I reckon having a location change every meet is good - weather dependent. We would mix it up so city, Hutt, Porirua, etc. With an undercover default place if the weather was shithouse.
Could easily do that here, good reason to drive the car further and see new places especially over summer - e.g. out west, central, north shore, south, etc.

It's still a Viva Alex...

I have a feeling sheepers would like to see the dog encased in concrete, never to be seen again...

Try to lock him in a British Leyland sharn. Eventually he will glaze over and make an exit, never to return.
In keeping with my record this year, I will not be able to attend this meet due to being elsewhere.
5/5 fail.

Selley's No More House
Whats the temperature like in your temporary accommodation?

White plates, plastic bumpers. Not sure about that.
Even if the underlying engineering was oldschool.

I topped up tonight and the combination of big carb and small tank means ~250-300 kms to a tank. I'll be stopping a lot for peace of mind.
Gauge is dodgy so I've got a can in the boot with 5 litres in.
Fun times.

12 hours till departure!
Have just seen a major accident at the top of my street in a 50kmh zone. Single car taking out a huge concrete pole with the drivers Door
makes me feel actually sick seeing the car.
Drive to the conditions- don't do any dickhead manoeuvres ect.
What about the poor pole?
Minding it's own business then some dickhead drives into it, cutting it's young life off prematurely.
Won't somebody think of the pole?

So not a lot of support for a 9am departure from anyone?
Guess I'll just have to drag myself out of bed early then to join the rest of you.

Hey I'm thinking I might leave a little later (others perhaps might be keen as well?) and have convey v2.0. Also not so keen on wagon time/lots of stops.
I've got to muck around and get my car from my lockup in Pukekohe etc so 7am is not appealing.
Anyone else want to leave Bombay at say 9am as a separate group? Google says 6.45 hours to masterton so we'll get there 4-5pm just in time for dinner/antics.
Just an idea.

I'm not going to attend this thing.

Not sure my plans but would meet you at Bombay if I joined in.
7am is quite early though.

There was tension between the two Vauxhall groups. The offical "Owners Club" and the DTV guys. The official guys don't like the "modern and modified" Victors and Vivas of the DTV group.
Barrys getting political. Bunch of 80 year olds telling those boy racers in their 50s and 60s what for.

The Burgerfuel folks should be lucky we still go there. The service has been rubbish the last few times.

Rusty and 4 doors don't appeal.
Thanks.

@cletus Tell me about the Torana please

I can't believe this thread is still going after 6 pages.
The correct answer to the original question is 'No'.
It's 70s, British, and Leyland. That's a trio of trouble...

I have one of those things.
It's got a narrow deck on it - 1700 or something so may be too skinny for you.

Wouldn't be that hard to machine up a new hub to take a common bearing and brake rotor - maybe something from the same family like a Gemini?
I've got some NA MX5 hubs/stubs/uprights I'm going to experiment with. They are remarkably similar dimensions, can fit on the lower ball joint from memory, but needs a different top arm fabricated or something like that. The Jensen Healy uses the same front end and there is heaps of stuff on US sites about JH brake upgrades too. If you can use MX5 stuff then the world is your oyster.

Yeah the slant motor weighed a ton. They fitted them to the HB in 1600cc and 2000cc form, the 1800cc came in the HC onwards. Engines all weighed the same so would be a good argument to say the HB came with and engine weighing about as much as a Holden 202 (took both a 202 and a slant 1800 to the scrappy in the same trip, not a big difference in weight).
HC big brakes use the same stub from memory just a bigger disc and different caliper. Same 4 stud 4x 4" PCD. Rubbish really.
Look at the factory weights for an HB 90 and an HB GT and try to work out the difference between a pushrod and an OHC motor?
Any retrofit engine would have to be less unless it was an iron V8...

I put a fresh 1256 into mine, high comp pistons, cam, etc. Goes okay for a small car.
Consider it as a viable option.

Awesome. Just awesome.
I am so jealous of you having a road legal HB wagon. Please leave it in your will to me / give me first right of refusal if for some unknown reason you ever sell it.
