  1. Im about to fabricate some new rear strut towers to fit coil overs in my ta22, ive heard you have to use a minimum of 4mm plate, is this correct, if not does anyone know what the minimum is? im going to use part of the existing gas shock mount (car originally ran spring perch off diff and gad shock separate but the original gas shock mount/tower is too narrow to fit my coil over shock) If anyone can clear this up it would be greatly appreciated. cheers Matt
  2. Looking to make some new rear suspension towers for the rear coil overs now that the hilux diff is in, does anyone have some 150x150 rhs they'd be keen to sell? off cuts or the likes after 2x lengths about 250-300mm or one length 500-600mm i can cut down, steel flavour. Cheers! Matt
  3. Also made up some 10mm spacers for the front camber tops, just a pic to show how they looked before they went in. IMG_0909 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0910 by postlematt, on Flickr Installed.. IMG_0949 by postlematt, on Flickr Also mocked up the rear filler panel garnish to check clearance with the rear bumper, just waiting to here back about a possible trade of a drop tank in exchange for my factory tyre well/floor pan otherwise ill just but a 40l fuel cell then i can sort the filler positioning. IMG_0937 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0938 by postlematt, on Flickr So basically just trying to track down some steel rhs to make up some rear strut towers.
  4. So got the shortened Hilux diff all welded up and back in the car, forgot to take pics when it was out but you get the idea.. IMG_0923 by postlematt, on Flickr this is it sitting 20mm off the chassis in the arse end. IMG_0911 by postlematt, on Flickr Rolled it out of the garage to give it a dust off and give the garage a sweep and a tidy up. IMG_0916 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0920 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0914 by postlematt, on Flickr Look at all that room for dish...... This is the 6.5's with 25mm spacers on the back. and this is a view from back/underside IMG_0944 by postlematt, on Flickr and how it will look when the rear wheels are widened, when Gavin Bateman finally gets back to me. 5. Had a go at fitting the new tail lights over the weekend, centre garnish doesnt fit flush because of the hinges used, this will be sorted once ive bought another drop tank. IMG_0882 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0885 by postlematt, on Flickr In the mean time i started cutting the diff link mounts off the ta22 diff to fit to the new shortened hilux housing. has to use a plasma cutter as i cound get the angle grinder in there Mounts cut off IMG_0888 by postlematt, on Flickr Should give some idea hilux housing is about 100mm norrower than the stock ta22 housing IMG_0897 by postlematt, on Flickr lower mounts sit quite far outboard IMG_0891 by postlematt, on Flickr Had to make a spacer up because of the step between the bears housing and axel housing IMG_0907 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0906 by postlematt, on Flickr I got the lower mounts properly welded on after test fitting then spot welded the top mounts and test fitted the diff again. i was getting some real shit welds checked the gas was on and feed was all good, it was at this point one the spot welds holding one of the top mounts failed and i then realised id run out of gas.. So no more welding untill i can get more gas which sucks, i would have had it in the car had it not been for that. should give me something to do next weekend though..
  6. They were in Te Atatu it was just a couple of 225/50r15s that i was going to set aside and run on the rear rims of the ta22 when cert time rolls round still a while off id say
  7. Hey mate, nah i didnt in the end. no one bid on the auction though so ill see if it gets relisted. Cheers Matt
  8. Look what showed up today.. Shortened hilux diff housing and axles 1260mm hub to hub so i can run my low offset rims without ruining the factory lines of the rear guards. Also looking for a 4.1 diff head open or lsd hit me up if you have one going cheap! IMG_0869 by postlematt, on Flickr And also this, it wa sititng in customs for over a week while they sorted theyre shit out. they had classed it as commercial goods as it was addressed to me at my work so i had to do some chasing up and convince them it was personal goods.. Can you guess whats inside? IMG_0872 by postlematt, on Flickr How about now? IMG_0873 by postlematt, on Flickr 71' Flat tail lights with fold down fuel filler centre garnish! IMG_0875 by postlematt, on Flickr These things are pretty hard to get a hold of, they only came out on the 1st year of production 71' and early 72' models, doesnt help that these cars werent sold in NZ and i was told the first shipment of the 71 celicas to Aus never made it, the cargo ship capsized or something along those lines and all the cars were water damaged and written off. Theyre from L.A. and werent cheap but will allow me to get rid of the fuel tank beind the rear seats so i can modify my rear strut towers to fit the rear coil overs and ditch the spare tyre well and run a drop tank plus i can delete the fuel filler on the rear passenger pillar.. On another note is anyone in the Auckland city area able to pick up 2 tyres for me and drop them off to a shipping depot, they're on trade me and the auction finishes this thursday (pick up only). Payment will be made in order for you to purchase beers to replenish your thirst after a job well done. Let me know if you can help. Cheers Matt

  10. Not a lot has been happening waiting on some parts to arrive so just been playing around with wheel fitment once again.. decided to ditch the 9.5" rear rims idea at this stage as theres no specified tyre that a can get certed on with a 9.5 so settled on a 7.5" fronts (new outer lips with existing rear barrel should drop the offset to around 15 and 195/45 tyres). 8.5" rears (new outer lips and inner barrels about -35 offset 130mm~ish of dish, 225/45 tyres) tyres and rims will tuck no problems and can always go wider at a later date. IMG_0837 by postlematt, on Flickr and just cause i got bored.. flipped centres and painted black barrel as i wont be using these barrels 100mm of dish so there will be more with new barrels.. IMG_0857 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0852 by postlematt, on Flickr
  11. Cheers, yeah i saw those i just meant the bit where battlesnayke said he had some paperwork that said a 195/45r15 can be stretched legally onto a 8.5" wide wheel, i know falken 195/45r15 legally go on an 8" wide wheel so i wonder if a 205/50r15 would legally go onto a 8.5? Cheers
  12. Do you have a copy of these spec sheets im looking to get my wheels widened to an 8.5 so this would be handy when it comes to going through cert. Cheers Matt
  13. Fitted up my new front bumper and test fitted the rear caliper brackets today. Untitled by postlematt, on Flickr Untitled by postlematt, on Flickr Untitled by postlematt, on Flickr Also spent most of the day working out rim sizes and hopefully i will get it all finalised tomorrow. looking to get new lips for the front to take them from 6.5" to 8" which should give me between 2-2.5" of dish on the front. The rears will be going to 8.5" so i can run a legal size tyre for cert and will also allow the rim and tyre to tuck up inside the guard without having to smash the guards out. They'll be getting new inner barrels and outer lips and have an offset well into the negatives, the diff will be shortened roughly 50-55mm a side. and the rear rims should have roughly 115mm of dish about 4.5" Photos to follow tomorrow.. Cheers
  14. Hey mate, are you still after shifter housing, ive got a mid mount one spare and would be keen to swap for the one you have on your w57. let me know. cheers Matt
  15. So i picked up my w50 for the Ta22 today, also bought a w50-T bell housing a while back, missing a cluch fork and thrust bearing if anyone has spares of these then im keen to buy! IMG_0737 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0739 by postlematt, on Flickr This also showed up today from ebay japan.. IMG_0741 by postlematt, on Flickr a GT front grill. It was listed as a TA22 grill but its actually a Ra23/28 grill. IMG_0743 by postlematt, on Flickr Im going to see if i can find someone who wants to swap for a ta22 grill otherwise ill keep it for the Ra23. In other news, i milled out the camber plates after work to give me more adjustment. IMG_0750 by postlematt, on Flickr basicly im going to relocate it 180 degrees which means drilling new holes in the strut tower.. So made up this plate. IMG_0752 by postlematt, on Flickr Bolted up to redrill holes.. IMG_0757 by postlematt, on Flickr camber tops bolted in, will have to do a bit of cutting/slotting IMG_0761 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0760 by postlematt, on Flickr Dropped it off the jack and presto! Finally.. Negative camber! IMG_0759 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_0763 by postlematt, on Flickr Cheers! Project dicussion here: http://oldschool.co....ver-buildresto/
  16. One of the members on toymods was kind enough to bring me a bumper over from Aus when she came to nelson for a holiday in january, it wasnt cheap but i couldnt find any replacements over here. had a few dents bit its pretty much rust free. I did some panel beating on it in the weekend and it came out alright. IMG_0734 by postlematt, on Flickr Also went into my old work on sunday with the old man and cnc'd up my rear caliper brackets and did a few other bits and pieces, will be modifying my camber tops tomorrow after work to allow from more -'ve camber Anyway, rear caliper brackets.. 17. Hey man, top work! Just curious about your rear strut towers, did you have to get the welds signed off before you went for cert? im going to be modifying the rear strut towers in the ta22. Cheers Matt
  18. Cheers Ned, its slow going but should pick up once i move into my new place thats closer to the shed! corey_jorg id been looking at all sorts of adjusties, i narrowed it down to civic/integra adjusties as theyre shorter the fronts are about 400-450mm from memory and rears are 295mm and have the pillow/ball (adjustable platform) also theyre a light weight car so i figured the spring rates wouldnt be too far off as a starting point. i was originally looking at dc3 integra adjusties as a there was a set forsale locally that i looked at but they sold, i just stumbled across the dc5 apexi adjusties on trademe they were a fair price and 3 way adjustable, the fact the fronts shocks were sleeved top to bottom and had the removable lower platforms meant it would be easy enough to spin up a sleeve and weld upto my mx6* Cheers Matt
