  1. i borrowed a mates spot weld removing drill thingy today, saved soooo much time. I unpicked the seams on all the parts around that rear valance area and found ALOT more rust i cut the bumper mount off the right hand side and found the chassie rail to be full of old mud... had to ask the question "where the f*** did that mud get in?" so i went along the rail with a screw driver and right where the tyre would throw dirt at it, the screwdriver dissapeared through the underseal. big hole... and then once i got the rest of the bumper mount and valance cut off i found a piece of tin that was riveted over the end of the valance, so i ground off the rivets and found even MORE rust... so now with all the rust cut out along the valance area and all cleaned up ready for patch panels as you can see i have spent lots of time on the end of my grinder today i have also decided to get some dry ice and get ALL the underseal off, i want to know what other big rust holes are hiding underneath it, hopefully not too much. the car will be getting completely bare metalled now as i don't want any bubbles coming out of surprise bodgey repairs that were done by other owners. i've got patch panels made up for all the boot floor holes now too which i will fit up tomorrow.
  2. Now that im home in new plymouth for a bit i managed to get into the shed this afternoon. re-aligned the anglebox's position in the shed i had cut the rear bumper mount rail/valance thingy off a while ago, i had been buffing the paint off to bare metal and found that all the metal disappeared... so i cut off what was left and got another folded up where i used to work. standing the car on its edge however i have now found more rust in the seam of the boot floor so i cut a big hole in the floor (no pic of that yet) also found that the bumper mounts themselves are totally shot so i cut them off too, i've just spent the rest of the evening starting to unpick whats left of the section of boot floor that i cut out. tomorrow im going to go and get a spot weld drill to make things alot easier. Then i'll start on some welding with my piece of crap mig welder.
  3. nice estate dude what you gunna do with the wheels that are on it? are they called rostyles?
  4. yeah they are in the taranaki mustang club, so am i. but i was down here in christchurch and dad was on a drilling rig so we didnt have any cars in the convention show. dads got a 66 fastback, a 68 notch, a 72 convertible, a 95 racecar and an 08 GT500 ive got an 86 GTHO, for sale if you wana buy it
  5. just read your whole project, looks awesome! Mk2 GTE is by far my favourite corty shame its turned up so much rust, it looked mint at the start. nice mustang too! 67 or 68?? theres a few mustangs at my olds place with my anglia
  6. hmmm have been thinking a bit since posting that and have almost convinced myself to go down the 5 speed route from the start.... reckon it will cost me less in the long run, coz that 4 speed is just gunna be a time bomb . needa find a yoke for my gearbox though and someone who can modify my driveshaft cheaply
  7. that wagon is wicked, i love the old paint, looks tops. did you make the eyebrows? how are they attached? thinking about doing a set for my anglebox
  8. mint looking esky mate! how much did it set you back to get the driveshaft made?
  9. yeah i tried to get the engine as low as possible, has to come up slightly from there coz the starter is fouling on the x-member at the moment. yeah the 4 speed is only temporary though until i can be bothered cutting up the trans tunnel and forking out to modify the speedo and driveshaft. If i get time and find enough money over summer i will do it but at the moment it looks like it will be left til later. I'll just have to be gentle on it
  10. im just after the strut inserts from a mk1 or i think a mk3 will fit too. they are shorter than the mk2 corty strut inserts so i can cut out a section of the strut housing and shorten them up to fit the capri inserts. the cortina struts have fairly close geometry to the anglia, they just need to have the track control arms lengthened, the steering arms shortened, and the strut itself shortened slightly.
  11. I like the idea of keeping it ford in a ford and wanted a reasonably modern, cheap, twin-cam engine that would give me decent power. nah not many performance goodies for it over here but that doesnt really worry me at this stage. engine only cost me $250 in the end!
  12. Thought i better start a thread on here for my project. I've been chipping away at it for a while now, when i bought it it was mostly stripped except for the running gear which was a 1300 escort engine. i spent a few months cutting out all the rust, i've never done any work like that before so i've just been learning as i go, and my welder is sh** which makes it a bit harder but im getting there. i've got a 2.0 litre zetec engine mocked up in it at the moment, i've also just picked up a megajolt ignition and a set of quad carbs from a yamaha R1. I've started making a custom exhaust manifold which is coming along pretty well. This combination should be good for about 150-170hp sitting in my shed next to the car is a set of mk2 cortina front struts which need to be modified to fit the anglia and converted to coil-overs. (does anybody have some second hand strut inserts from a mk1 capri spare??) i also have a type-9 5 speed which will eventually make its way into the car but for the moment it will only get the 4 speed as i can't afford to do the 5 speed conversion at the moment. for the moment the diff will be standard but i also have a disc brake LSD from an EA falcon which will get shortened down when money allows and the anglia diff breaks most of the metal work on the body is done, and i am hoping to get the car running by the end of the uni holidays so i can get it from new plymouth to chch. this is when i first got it (looks similar to now overall) with the zetec with the new headers tacked up long way to go yet, its nearly ready for sanding down and shooting in primer to start the tedious body work... still got to modify the sump, fabricate a water rail, rebuild some decent engine mounts, finish the exhaust, build an inlet manifold, hook up the ecu, tune it, modify the struts and suspension, sand it, primer it, fill it, paint it, cert it, wof it, and then enjoy it
