  1. Goddamn that's amazing. Well done!
  2. @MopedNZ let's be honest, I'm the stereotypical poser riding his dirtbike through Ponsonby haha. But for real, I'd be hella keen but I'm working an event that Sunday. Keep me posted for the next one though cause I'm keen to get this XL off road!
  3. How the bike is currently sitting.
  4. Managed to wrangle the engine into the frame tonight, bloody stoked! No photos as my garage has rubbish lighting, but will update once I get a proper look in the daylight. One problem however. After test fitting the tank I've found that my relocated petcock now fouls the headbolts. It needs to be moved about 50mm back down the length of the tank. Anyone a fabricator/welder who'd be keen to give me a hand?
  5. Oh wow. I don't know why I didn't think of checking David Silver. Maybe that's the best option! Thanks mate!
  6. Might be worth a go! I'll have a look into it.
  7. Weather is rubbish so I'm just ticking away at cleaning up parts - making use of the dishwasher while the girlfriend is away. Pulled open the air boxes to discover that they're in rubbish condition. These bikes are pretty sensitive to induction and ideally I'd like to keep standard filters BUT at $300 or so for a pair of NOS filters, it's just not the sort of money I want to spend on a $2500 Honda. I've seen online where people have replaced the filter material with either filter foam or a cutdown K&N paper filter. Will try cut them out and see what the best option is.
  8. Touched up all the spots I missed when painting the frame today - turns out the paint shop mixed me matte black instead of gloss. Ended up spraying the whole thing so it matched. Not ideal, but I'm not too bothered. Also started tidying up the wheels and spokes which is definitely the most tedious thing I've ever had to do on this bike. If Auckland gives me some sun tomorrow I plan to paint the engine hangers and throw the engine into the frame. Fingers crossed.
  9. Yeah man, bought it from Motomail for $499. Not too much more expensive than online - plus I wanted to try one on first.
  10. I've done absolutely nothing more on this bike, BUT the XL is now road legal so that's progress I guess.
  11. I think Google may have saved me here. I somehow managed to find bill of landing details with a few minutes of creepy googling.
  12. Ain't that the truth! Thanks heaps for your help. That's reassuring. I'll throw some money and jump through some hoops and see where it goes! Cheers!
  13. Thanks @Goat. Here's what I currently have: - ownership papers from Canada (of the owner I purchased it from) - declaration that the bike has been sold to me I phone NZTA and they've confirmed that the chassis number has not been border checked. So I'm assuming that I will require the bill of lading (which I'm waiting on the prev owner to supply). I potentially jumped the gun on this purchase, but I'm hoping the previous owner can supply those docs... otherwise I guess I'm shit outta luck! Unless there's another way?
  14. Is anyone able to give me the rundown on border inspections when registering an import? I've got a motorcycle which was brought back into NZ last year by the previous owner. I understand the bike needed to have a border check to be registered. The previous owner is trying to find this paperwork for me. Worse case scenario, is it possible to confirm a border check by checking the chassis number in the system? EDIT: Can probably ignore/delete this. Have just seen the re-registering thread.
  15. Hellll yeah!! If I'm complied by then, count me in!
  16. Is the XL small enough? If I have it registered before then I'll definitely bring it! I'd rather the CL, but I don't think I'll have that complete before then...
  17. Frame finished off and ready for paint. Giving POR15 a hoon. End result was all good! I absolutely hate painting and bodywork so I probably didn't spend enough time prepping as I should have. Worst part was spending 2 hours cleaning the garage from POR15 'dust'. Never again.
  18. Yeap, that's what I did with the CL175. The XL however, has been imported from Canada. I've spoken to the compliance guy and have all the paperwork so it should be sweet!
  19. It's damn tidy. But needs to go through compliance etc. Hopefully isn't too much of a hassle as I do want it road legal.
  20. Just purchased a distraction.....
  21. More stripping. Pretty much ready to be blasted and painted.
  22. I'm pretty useless at taking photos and documenting what I'm doing. Started prepping everything for paint, body filling side panels and paint stripping the frame and brackets etc Will be sandblasting at home and probably painting with POR15.
  23. Not particularly. 2 bolts under the fender. Guess I could show the WOF man before reassembling and WOF'ing.
  24. Motorcycle related... anyone know if I'm allowed to move a VIN plate, or what the process is? When I had the bike vinned, they put the plate in a silly place. My new seat now makes it hard to see which I imagine will be an issue for a WOF.
  25. I'm removing the side cover badges so I've patched up the mounting holes with fibreglass. Also decided to try weld my fender brackets on myself. Considering I'd never welded before, and only had about an hours practice prior to doing this, I'm pretty stoked! Hopefully it holds.
