  1. Lush, I got a Panasonic Avic double din head-unit from my friend for free. Plays DVD's (doesn't display them) and mp3's but, it has a inbuilt 30GB hdd, that automatically records any cd you insert. So I installed that last night. WHAT A MISSION! the factory console pre '94 does not have a standard DIN size port, and none of those metal frames to attach the headunit. So I had to fab up a piece from some aluminium lying around. After a few trails and 5 hours later the thing was mounted. It's JDM only, so no english software, but sound quality is good and it's easy enough to understand. Now what annoys me: while I was in there poking through the wiring, I decided to look at the alarm system from the previous owners. Found 2 Solenoids, unplugged power from one, started car, ran fine etc etc, no idea what it's for. unplugged the 2nd one, same deal. Only issue, when I started the car those 2 power wires touched and made some very pretty sparks. plugged them back together and the car started fine again. Hopefully I didn't fry anything. After the install I was putting the center console in, when I found a switch, big and orange. No idea what it does, turn it on - nothing changes. Turn it off - still no difference. So cut the wires and removed the switch. Installed everything, went to start car, no fuel. That fucking useless switch somehow breaks the fuel pump solenoid. So wired it back in, car starts. Finally. Only now.... the alternator squeals horrendously under loud, and there is some whack noise coming from one of the valves. So I'm unsure what my wiring escapades did to the engine/alternator. But at least now I can play mp3's and not just 12 tracks.
  2. I do believe out of everyone on this forum, I have the most right to make demands of people's cars. sir.
  3. please get stance coilovers. SO keen to see some people in kiwiland rock them. Some rota alecia's in 15x9 please.

  5. That was way back jase. Sold those rims a long while back
  6. That is also true. However this time I just re-tightened the screws that were in there originally. Into the same holes. Seems to be strong enough.
  7. just ended up putting some more self tappers in. Figured it's better if they rip out partly than bolting the lip and and potentially damaging the lip. But yes brad, not parking ontop of things like that is usually the best way.
  8. nah boe. middi lives there. Story: the front lip connects with self tapping screws to the bumper Fact: I ripped half of the screws out by parking too close to one of those plastic bumps in a parking lot Solution: Remove self tappers and replace with bolts along with some "U" brackets between the pieces of plastic Atleast that is what I am planning to do tomorrow. Along with thinking how amazing that silver roof looks.
  9. Nah they're not. Probably not low enough. That and I don't go over speed bumps very often. this is the current state of the rails. No damage that I know of.
  10. no thanks boe, I have other things to spend money on at the moment.
  11. Thread should be re-named a spam thread. Might call next month's spam thread "Dave's MX5 build" haha I shall take you up on that Felixx, also, to monsieur jase, I do not believe that my car would do very well in any form of dirt drags.
  12. I see it as defeating the whole idea of an MX, but each to their own.
  13. sorry boe, sold it when I got the hardtop. just buy a new roof from the states. these chaps are gc http://www.gomiata.com/ yuck! if anything i'd rather install a SR20 or simmilar haha well done boe, that's a good effort
  14. so how are you planning on getting the roller to and from you?? courier? or wait for people who are making the trips to bring/take-back the roller?
  15. yea I read that, hence me questioning it. was it because it was a gray import that it got compliance? or was what i heard just pure rumor after all?
  16. was it cheaper going gray import? also heard that these turbo models cannot be complied in kiwiland?
  17. where in the country are you dude?
  18. I would agree if it was for subframe bracing etc, however I am unsure how much lateral forces actually go through that point in the car. Is it is RIGHT above the rear firewall type area aswell.
  19. no offence, but if i catch you doorting in my neighbourhood i'll poke a commodore through the middle of this thing. some fuckers never learn you'll slap it into a power pole and die.. rant over I only ment as in my drive to work. And yes, did not notice anything. The cabin seemed like it has less vibration in it, but then again it could just be that the roads were smoother etc. I believe it was 30 x 1mm pipe
  20. was browsing through some minkara today (japanese type facebook thing apparently) and stumbled upon a mx with an internal brace. Then I remebered you could buy them, went to check how much they were, $120!!! so thought, flag that, I'll make my own. So I did. made some measurements, took some pipe, drilled some holes then painted it satin black and whacked it in the car. This brace is on all models 93 or newer, so it has to do something. Will judge for myself later tonight.
  21. There are some pretty sweet you-tube videos on this process, well worth the watch to see how it's done.
  22. Emailed those chaps to ask how much a wood grain valve cover would cost. Think it came to about $300. Flag that. would have to see how much a roof would cost.
  23. They told me to paint it red, and not come back down that road until I did. Guess I shall be taking a detour. although last I heard I would need a crane to get my roof off to paint it. Also, drivers window is now in the perma-up position. Pretty shit, but don't want to fork out $280 for a wire cable right now.
  24. talk about luck, driving home in the rain tonight, get up to a cop stop so wind my window down, they tell me to pass on through, BUT my window motor cables must have jumped the gun, because the window now won't retract. super average Guess that is tomorrows work sorted.
