  1. I'm going to drop that whole beam/frame that the LCA mounts are on; just had a panelbeater look at it and he said he suggested that and then he'll straighten it upto spec when i get it out
  2. What? Measure all the mounting points and compare to the non damaged side/another car. The replacement lower control arm is very far off from where it mounts to the frame.
  3. Not oldschool. But my EF8 CRX had a run in with a curb a while ago. Been sorting it when i have the time. Have gotten new straight stabilizer bar and links, radius rods and Lower control arms. The passenger side stabilizer bar & link were bent, The radius rod had snapped. LCA didn't seem to messed up... The side the suffered the damage is frustrating me, the new LCA is very far off from where it bolts the the front rear subframe, I'm not too sure what do to here.... As discusting as it sounds i'm tempted to fit the old LCA back on, it has a small bend in it and i'm actually not sure if it is from a accident prior to myself owning the car or it happened in the accident. But it looks as though it will fit and work, will post pic shortly. The LCA mount doesnt appear damaged while comparing to the drivers side.
  4. Agreed ^^^^^ I dont want it running slightly cooler, i want it running slightly warmer;Puts wear on engine plus i'm sure fuel consumption can go up.
  5. It's in good working condition though, aswell as it being 180km old. I have tested it....
  6. Yes I have tested it. In a electric frying pan with water in it at work. Opens fine and closes fine. There is no ecu...no choke...
  7. Hey guys, When I first got the van running I had ran out of money so i used CAT ELC for coolant. Motor doesnt get hot enough now (can stick finger in coolant after an hours driving withut burns), thermostat is functioning well and cooling system is in good condition. Maybe the CAT ELC is doing a too good of a job. Fuel consumption is a bit too high aswell, could this be due to coolant not getting hot enough and thermostat not opening due to motor not heating up enough?

  9. Replace starter, set tappets. While motor was at TDC on #1 I pulled the dizzy cap off and noticed rotor wasn't at #1 but more so #2 and a half. Pulled dizzy out and put it back with the rotor on #1. Turned key, motor fired up instantly and idled at 850rpm! Mint!! Put timing light on and set to 8deg btdc. How do I set air/fuel mixture without gas analyzer?
  10. What? 8.5:1 means 8.5 parts fuel to 1 part air...
  11. I don't know what I was on about with the ballast. Ignore that please. I will set the tappets after work (it's been 5 years since I was trained how to do this...) but I'll sort it Totaly understand it is a mission to solve over the internet, but really appreciate everybodies help.
  12. Use rubber grease too...as far as i recall.
  13. well at least i have another starter!!! will be hooking that mofo ballast up before i even turn the key this time.
  14. Fuck I am stupid. Why the hell didn't I hook the ballast resistor up!?!?!?!
  15. I do have experience, just not a shitload on old carb motors. I hate carburettors. Done a fair bit of work on L20ETs, RB20DETs, B16As, B18CRs. I got it running a bit better, I set timing at 8degree with a light. Is that BTDC? Still ran rather crap. Forgot to pull the vacuum advance off at first and that didnt help. I turned her off, then went to start again and it wouldnt start. I cranked it for about 15 seconds which was a bad idea, next thing I hear a PUFF and the starter had died. Lucky I found a spare at home about 5 mins ago. I will set tappets 2mrw and give it another shot.
  16. Yes did carb blow out action. Hanvt done fuel filter yet, will do 2mrw.
  17. Hrmm good point. They are gear driven. So manually turn motor to TDC, put timing light on and see if it lights up when at TDC.
  18. Ok, rebuilt but not really rebuilt. New spark plugs. New leads. Electronic dizzy Auto choke removed Tappets not set yet Used old rings and bearings as they were within spec so didn't see anypoint in replacing; so no real need to run it in. Fuel would be 11 months old.
  19. It's a 1990 L300 with a Sohc carb 4g63. Umm just rebuilt the motor... viewtopic.php?f=46&t=24578 Infact you were the last to comment on that thread.
  20. -Is hard to start. -Runs rough. -Won't idle until foot has been on gas for about 4 mins after start up. -Fluctuates badly between around 1000-1100rpm. Apart from that it drives ok. Well it did the other day when I drove around the container yard.
  21. They are lined up, checked that yesterday. i just keep having this bad feeling they arn't. Oh and it doesnt have a modified cam, i said "as though it have a lumpy cam"
  22. By The way. Thank you cold turkey. So process: Check/Set Timing>Set idle>Set Fuel mixture
  23. Runs like shit when I rotate dizzy. Just found my timing light. Will check that out 2mrw.
