Basically yeh 50cc scoot is only option, it seems reliable enough / have never tested it long distance ... 

Will discuss the idea again with the wife and see if I can make it along.  

If its been reliable for a while it will be fine for 3 days of gravel smashing 

And scooters have plenty of beverage storage for those side of the road refreshment stops
