@Nominal how are you finding LEAF life so far?
-
Yeah for sure, I just mean most people already control when they charge. I'll stick with my dumb charger the govt can't control. Can get some pretty grunty plug in chargers too.

Battery tech has come along way in 15 years too, so i'd expect some better chemistry from the next LEAF, if we even get it here. They have lots of competition now, so need to either keep up or not bother releasing something.
Not surprised that charger control stuff went under the radar. I mean i'm sure they just forgot to announce it properly, right. I'm sure most people already charge in off peak times, so i'm not convinced how much of a problem it actually is. Versus the fact power demand is always increasing (whether we have EV's or not), and they want an excuse to not invest some of the always increasing daily charges we pay, into the network... Anyone on a plan with free power is charging off peak already. Anyone with a split tariff power plan is charging off peak already. Unless you don't know they exist, most EV users are likely already making use of off peak power.

Yeah my LEAF has around 15kWh left in it. Granted the Tesla / BYD batteries will be better, hard to argue the price of a LEAF battery / whole car.

Good score that, I spotted it and the comment section entertainment. I just check to see how cheap they are sometimes. Well played.
Far less good ones than there used to be, but there are still some cheap home batteries available
https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/car-parts-accessories/batteries-chargers/listing/540119528162kWh @ 91% for 17k too. That would run a few toasters.

I can't comment on that stuff. But what I can say is that Cobra springs will custom make a spring to whatever specifications you want.

By learning fast I assume you mean stealing IP fast lol. Last China EV I saw online looked exactly like a Porsche. They are well known for copying and pasting. So it makes sense if they don't have to develop a lot of the technology themselves, they are quicker in other areas.

It's bad enough we're advocating EVs on here. To be recommending Chinese ones... Is this a step too far?
Btw Im no racist, I hate most of chairman mao's cars for completely defensible reasons i.e after sales support is generally shit.
Getting better every year tho
I'm on the same page.
The only one i'd consider would be BYD, but i'm much more of a tried and true brand buyer. CCP is releasing a new brand here every year, do not want. Half of them will probably be bust by 2030.-

One for the wife Bryan: https://www.bydauto.co.nz/vehicles/dolphin
Small, relatively well priced and might tick some boxes? Pretty similar dimensions to a Jazz.-

Utes need to be dinosaur burners until we have better battery energy density IMO. Hybrid probably suits utes that do the school and grocery spec short runs. But not proper trade usage. Not surprised you found diesel to still be the better vehicle for you. Range, power and no worries. EV utes and vans will be great tradie vehicles one day, I just don't think we are there yet.
Transit van is a good example, I think the EV version range is sub 200km open road. My diesel one would have got around 800km, open road. That is loaded too, the sub 200km quoted range is probably empty. Hanmer springs was a frequent trip for me and the diesel economy was at least 800km/tank for trips like that. I'd need to charge before heading home in the EV. When the EV has 800km range, i'll be onboard. I think that will happen too, one day.-

Define amazingly better though
Check the fuel stats of comparable cars if you want to know the difference. I have zero interest in hybrids.

Extra weight and often smaller petrol motor in heavy vehicles is not really a recipe for good fuel economy when the electric side of things can't be used much. Around town is where hybrids are better. Even around town though they aren't amazingly better than non hybrids. I'm surprised something like the Shark even has such a towing capacity with a 1.5L turbo engine.

Many days isn't THAT long in the scheme of things, i'd fix it. Their car though, if they think it won't bug them every time they look at the thing, then ignore it. It's not going away though or going to fix itself though.

Can I see some paperwork to show that piece of timber is correctly certified for the load it experiences during operation? I couldn't see anything in the LVVTA PDF that said it's compliant.

I paid ~$317* to air ship 15's nearly seven years ago now.
Which if I work off my dimensions vs your dimensions, would make it ~$317* for 15's. Can't comment if weight would make a difference, but I imagine it's mostly volumetric based. I feel like i've messed something up though, unless pricing hasn't changed since then.*based on todays exchange rate

Saw this one online the other day, was an overseas review and I have no idea if / when they will come here. Google says maybe next year. Good to see more options though. Looks like it will be cheaper, but not quite as stylish

You can usually set timers to heat it to X degrees by X time. Even without doing that I tend to "turn it on", then load all of my stuff into it and humans and it will defrost the front screen and warm the interior nicely within 5 minutes. Just hear the fan of the heatpump running I assume. Add to that the seat can be heated as with the steering wheel. It sure makes winter a bit more pleasant to deal with, when frosty.

Stacked Exports, pretty sure they do container.
My last wheels came via Streeter Corporation / Jesse, but that was air freight as at the time sea either wasn't available or wasn't much cheaper. That was eight years ago now though.

They do tend to all look the same, so it's understandable. They would at least have active cooling for the battery which would be a must for your area. Any LEAF would get fried really fast due to them having none. Another plus would be getting one with V2L, then you have a giant solar battery.

Mine replaced a Blade, which was much of a muchness the same size wise. Bigger boot though due to lower floor. Not if I put my spare in the boot mind you! It's all relative I guess, certainly not saying it has class leading space. There will always be something that has more space internally. Bit like our CX5, probably bottom of class for interior space, but has other features I prefer compared to others in that class.
LEAF stands out as AFAIK, its the only option in the bottom end of the market for EV.

That sucks about the power tripping, not getting in with the charge you're expecting is annoying, been there. The USB issue might be the one DriveEV recondition and sell on their website, you may have already seen it anyway, just mentioning in case not. Handy being able to charge at work, will certainly have dropped the household fuel bill I bet.
