  1. Well some new stuff turned up for the esky which means more work, but new steel should be good. the offending spare wheel well which was the first patch i did, and now not happy with so only one thing for it, a few careful cuts with the angle grinder and no more And in with the new. Tacked up for a trial fit, then started to weld her up And a close up of the welding, showing some improvement
  2. Ill have a spare set when i change to bigger vented rotors. Will have a look to check condition but from memory they looked good.
  3. Doesnt sound to good. Try filling it with diesel and let it soak for a bit. Was told this is a good way to store engines as well.
  4. Im not to worried bout my offset since im running bubble arches and changing to 5 stud. If your going to a hilux diff using silvia rear disks and callipers redrilled to suit is not to bad to do, seen it done on a starlet. And yes i will keep people posted as to what im gonna do with my AP callipers. Freight for my new brakes is $250 aus gotta have brakes though i spose Fuckin sick of the weather down here, lots of faults = no time in garage but does = lots of money which = new parts.
  5. Yeah that rear panel replacement thread was quite helpful. As for the brakes,at a guess id say just over a grand which isnt to bad for all you get, plus i need ALL those parts anyway, so if your mk 1 only needs callipers and disks the ap way would probably be the go. Also gonna get a VH44 brakebooster as well to help the pedal feel.
  6. Kit includes 2 x PBR twin piston front calipers 2 x UPC#040, 296mm x 28mm vented rotors 2 x UPC#1344, Police spec brake pads 2 x Custom made ADR 7/00 braided brake hoses 2 x Escort adaptor hubs made from K1045 billet steel complete with bearings, seals & studs High tensile bolts are supplied to fit the kit Kits from melbourne and bolts straight up. Will work out way cheaper and look better than going down the ap path with redrilledhubs etc. Just waiting to hear back bout the price for shipping. Not to worried though, i just want them
  7. Cheers. I wasnt planning on going this far but one thing leads to another Yeah getting a price from palmside for a couple of things. Just hope i can remember how everything goes back together. Thought id start a post on turbosport as well since they know so much about everything to do with escorts. Its the first car ive fully rebuilt myself and first time welding, i think it shows but still learning
  8. Got the inside almost fully stripped and the floor patched up. Passenger side was a bit worse Ive also decided to ditch the austin princess idea and since im changing to 5 stud this kit should be ideal plus a shit load lighter So now i have two sets of ap callipers
  9. Had a day in the garage and got a bit done. Got the right rear looking alright. Will tidy it up fully when i prep the body for paint. After much consideration ive decided to ditch the old rear panel and get a new one. Looks like ill be parting with more cash to palmside The offending old piece of crap, put up a fight to come off And the gaping hole it left ready for the new one
  10. Fill it with kerosene, let it sit a while then give it a shake and empty. Fill it again and set on fire.
  11. Have you checked da voltage at your tail lights? have you made sure your lamps are twin filiment ones?
  12. Yeah it is a real carbon fibre bonnet that was made in dunedin from memory, light as! As for painting it, well i wouldve got a fibreglass one if i was to do that, might get a fibreglass boot though. The tops of the struts came off a piece of piss. All tou need is a 10mm zero angle drill bit for the spot welds and the good old angle grinder. Big guards = big wheels. Just figuring out how to change the front hubs to 5 x 114.3 to suit my diff. Heard mk 4 zephyr hubs mite work or something, any ideas? otherwise i might just get some alloy hubs made.
  13. Been busy trying to sort out the front end. Cutting out darusty topplates, welding in new ones, fixing the heater bowl and slapping on some primer. Stripped da engine bay, wot a pain in the arse Rusty old onelooks better in the pic than actually is all cut out Rust killed and sealed New patches i made welded in. Done the same to both sides and they both came up good. Rough coat of primer to seal things, not quite dry but got sick of waiting. Thought id give putting on one of the rear guards which dont fit to bad for fibreglass. Bit of bog goes along way
  14. Are ya sure its the clutch giving the shudder? May be you need ya flywheel faced off to make it smooth again. Dont know bout the wall thing, all youll do is heat things up and ruin ya clutch.

    escort diff ratios

What about this diff? Or still to higher ratio http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Ford/Engines-drive-trains/auction-116405269.htm?p=5
  17. In the southland times today there is a 1989 gtst skyline with slight frontal damage for $1200 ono. Ph 0272595325. Damn cheap! Could get the ball rolling for mya
  18. Anyone else with toyos find theyre a cunt for grip in the wet though? got them on the evo and the old man had them on his escort, devils staircase was a handfull in the rain (if you know that bit of highway)!
  19. Yeah seen them on there. Mite have to get one once i know my exact setup. Hope fully the internals hold up to the extra power! If not, theyre still making engines! Know of anyone who has tried one?
  20. Yeah that would be good. Probably be enough in a wee car like the mk1......well for now anyway! Hows your build coming along?
  21. Yeah not much room at all! Im using 90deg silicon joiners wich do fit and im running a full alloy race radiator from a honda civic. My first ca18 has got a GT28 turbo, 510cc injectors, s/s manifold, apexi safc etc, and my second prepped up engine has a bigger high mount T3 turbo and an ex/wastegate if room allows, so thats what da bigger intercooler is for, and since the car is stripped i thought i might as well over compensate for further plans, dont think this car will ever be truely be finished!
  22. Door pins are a pain in the arse. I ended up using a hacksaw blade and a jack to raise/lower the door to squeeze it in. Took ages As for stripping id get it soda blasted, sand is way to abrasive and will pit your panel steel. Think you could even get done with plastic too. Sounds like a mean build
  23. cheers dan. thanx for the encouragement! I got da intercooler off trade me. The dimensions are 450x300x76mm. With 90deg silicon joins it should fit perfect behind the grill. The front panel is from palmside, http://www.palmside.co.nz/ as for the bubblrs theyre another score off trade me. Will hunt out some old emails for you and maybe give you an address. Fook me an RB25DET is a big under taking! Youll have to chop alot out of your firewall, and have about a foot long drive shaft! Heres some reading for you. http://classicford.mine.nu/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10538 Good luck with ya build to mate, ill be following it closely, itll be a ripper if you pull it off! Just a couple of pics from this link.
  24. Thought id better put an update ive what ive been upto, mainly cutting out rust in welding in new steel. New intercooler is a perfect fit. Straight orr trade me. Got lots more pictures but takes a while to sort them out. Slowly workin my way through the body, then paint n prime!
