  1. That spider is not, I repeat, not the original spider that the car came with when it left the factory. I don't like non original spiders. I think you'll find that the would have got more miles per gallon if you'd left the original spider intact.
  2. It's OK. There seems to be bugger interest from others on the bbq front so I'll just bring coin and support the red Cross/insert other charity sausage sizzle. Might hopefully see you there.
  3. Any sport axles? monte carlo springs?
  4. I was thinking of getting there about 10. @ThePog you have a bbq yeah?
  5. Datsun A12 has all the powers.... Maybe I could cane it in reverse and twist it back out?... Anyway... I managed to crack on and do some starter jobs. Most importantly first.. make it easier to push. I think I have spotted the reason why it it drags.. I think those tyres might be a bit too big So on with the Minilites. Now it must be noted that I am not really a fan of Minilite alloys. They are just a bit too.. well...common. But now they are on the car it looks OK. If I squint a bit, turn off the lights and face the otherway I can almost pictures a set of Cheviot Turbos beautifully gracing the car. But they aint. So I'll look for some other alloys but in the meant time these stay. I reckon I can paint the centres and leave the rims polished for more of a Revolite alloy look. Sort of hide the minilite spokes. "HEY HANG ON!" I hear you ask... "Weren't you going to keep those awesome widened steels on, change the tyres over and fit the shiny hubcaps?" Yes. Yes I was. But then I found this... The front hubs had been machined down to take the smaller centre bore of the Viva steels. Bugger. There is still enough meat left further in supporting the outer bearings and for race car that doesnt see a rough road its probably OK , but for a road car I just feel a bit iffy about it. I don't want my hub cracking when I hit a pot hole, the wheel going wobbly, locking up in the arch and me spinning around a locked wheel into an on coming car. So alloys it is. I'll swap across the untouched hubs from the spares car once I get it. I also removed the exhaust and the mudflaps. Looking cleaner and more the style I want. I took some photos in the evening light. I like it. So dinky. Next step- engine removal. The Transaxle makes funny sounds not really befitting of a transaxle. I suspect that it has more damage then we first thought from its last outing. I have been prepared for this and anyway- quite looking forward to taking it apart if needed and learning stuff. I also have plan. A really big plan. Its in the future and it'll be pretty damn cool. I'm not going to say a thing more. You'll like it. It involves several of my building passions. Just watch and see. I'm excited!
  6. Yeah mine would work fine for a while and then the connection would drop. The other thing was that sometimes the gauges on the display would change size and not fit the screen. I think a combination of the serial to USB convertor and its rates (remember I was on poverty spec MS2...) not working well with the android phone and the MSdroid still being a bit 'beta' ? It would be awesome if Phil Tobin could produce a Tunnerstudio to work with android. He has talked about it but far too much changes in the code/different operating systems/I have no idea as I aint a computer nerd ?
  7. OK will do. I bet I'll fall for it's little charms though. Must. Be. Strong.
  8. I too have been considering this for the future. I used to use my Note 2 with MS droid and it would work fine except the connection would drop out. Apparently its a problem using a cable. Better using bluetooth I think I read. Would be super cool to have it setup running as a centre dash display on a cheap tablet. could store music etc too and have a neat setup. Make it slide away so not on display all the time.
  9. Crank your BBQ up. You can always join in the nationals fun times this year!!!
  10. Have fun and dont exceed your limit of talent. So peoples of Nelson. BBQ on Saturday hopefully. bring sausages, beer etc. @sidewaysickness will hopefully bring his BBQ. @ThePog will hopefully bring the bus. @Westernstar if you jump on a plane now you'll make it over just in time for another tour of tat.
  11. It has twin carbs on it too. Whats that rego number area? Chch? its early yeah? (Oh damn... barry alert. I've just asked about Rego numbers)
  12. Fuck that's cool. Not seen that. Bedtime reading
  13. Oh and a Scottish friend built this. It was on exile rotorsport but I think you have to sign up to see the build. Possibly is elsewhere... http://www.sucksqueezebangblow.co/2012/09/blown-rotary-imp.html?m=1
  14. Look up BMW k conversions
  15. I could cut the inlet down and graft on pipes and flanges in alloy for sure. But is meant to be a quick turn around have some fun and sell on type project. Until I discover I love driving it and can't let it go.....
  16. I wondered about bike carbs but price and tuning plus I've not really looked at how room there is. At this point just to get it in the road a nice simple twin choke carb appeals to me. As soon as more carbs are added with the wrong jets and or needles it becomes an expensive mess to tune. I could always inject it in the future with speeduino but then the cert plate won't match.
  17. Yeah there will be a spare engine I'm sure. I'll stay in touch.
  18. Yeah definitely! I'll bring cushions because its quite a small space. I am secretly hoping that I might be able to get this sorted enough to take it to Nats. Don't tell anyone. If I do it'll be pretty rough/wof only just spec.
  19. I'm such a car project signature slut... I do like seeing a tidy list of projects below someones name that I can click on. Plenty of page space compared to forums that allow people to have bloody huge photos as their signature.
  20. Yeah I have the old signature setup and if I update it I'll lose my wall of older projects Bart- I had been given a Hitachi carb from a Viva friend. He wasnt sure what it was from. Hannah looked up the codes and deduced its from an A12. Apart from it being quite dinky it seems to be a neat wee thing. If that can bag me close to 70 bhp on a standard A12 then I'll start with that. Definitely keen on your inlet because the one I have is for a 32/36 I think. I have already been attempting to fill my brain with information on Datsun A12 tuning. That techwiki stuff via Datsun1200 forum has heaps of info. It seems that the carb from an A14 could be a decent upgrade for a touch more flow without inducing flatspots etc?... http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Carburetor_Sizing
  21. Its not just economy that can be improved. Its how much smoother it could be made. I'm sure there will be decent power gains too. Plus its another fun thing that you can get to tune on the laptop! I'd suggest you could probably get the parts for free if you search. Especially if as suggested you try a Subie setup. So many of them out there. There's probably many at your local scrap man /council metal recycling depot etc. Treat as a mission to search and locate the parts for free!
  22. Luckily for me Neal had obviously had a good premonition that I may well get an Imp and a few weeks ago he kindly gifted me this...
  23. Its matt black, has large wheels and has a fluffy covered dashtop. Need I say more? I'll find a pic....
