If there's a suitable donor at a pickapart I can probably find some time next week (particularly if it's Takanini)
I can enquire, that would be appreciated.

Ah so this is proving difficult somehow. The wreckers want gold for the d21 stuff cos they break, I have marketplaced a few people but no replies. So I looked for more possibles and an NA MX-5 unit looks bang on.
I am trying to join the NZ mx5 page so I can ask there but nothing yet.
There is one on TM but its $50 plus 20 shipping and that just feels excessive.
Has anyone got any dead MX-5's lying around?

Unfortunately it is a serious question, I just bought these boys of fb marketplace to chuck into the fiat but I am pretty unconvinced they are legit ..

Get @Roman to Arduino you up a controller and run it with actuators and a china touch screen
On the other hand, I wondered about just having 3 unlabelled control wires poking out the dash.

Someone near me is wrecking a Navara and has that mech so I will see how that works out. Failing that I may go to the wreckers in Motueka on the weekend, he is happy for me to have a scrounge around.
Cheers for all the suggestions...

They need the reality pointing out to them. It's sell to you or scrap it in a couple of years. X1/9's aren't going to suddenly crop up everywhere as projects. My limited experience with them wasn't good either.
I also asked about the gearbox in one and it was like $1500. Dude I just bought an entire live reg car for half of that, go get fucked.

Last time I was in contact with the wrecker in ChCh who has two shells, most of the interior was still in one. The problem with this wrecker is that their physical presence is tiny with the stock elsewhere and parts brought in to office by arrangement. No looking at the wrecks. I found them not very co-operative either.
Whereabouts was that?

A bit of MDF and a jigsaw?
Does look like the panel on mid-60s Chevs, but they're probably just as thin on the ground here.
I mean there will be hackery

They changed it a couple of times, I think the heater I have is an earlier one so the control cables probably wont work with the correct control panel for my car.
However i have ordered a 3m bonnet release cable so I can make new cables.
And I know I can probably get everything i need from Midwest Bayless, but think of the shipping
Also; D21 terrano?

Print the whole thing? At least that way you can mess with the distances the lever pulls vs what it needs to pull. For someone with your gear it seems like a relatively easy job.
I have thought about it but it would just take time to resolve it all nice, I also quite like dirty hacks in old cars.
Maybe I will do that later when I get annoyed with marginally functioning dirty hacks.
Or maybe convince one of the Fiat hoarder barrys to actually sell me an original...

Hey so the 3 lever heater control mech is missing from my Fiat, I have the actual heater and 3x control cables coming out of it but nothing to actuate it.
This is what it looks like, the bit on the left is a fan switch which I do not necessarily need;
Can anyone suggest something that looks vaguely like that that I can hack in there? I have a heap of potential places to mount it so can print mounts and surrounds etc, I just need something with 3 levers really.
Cheers in advance.

Yea so I did a bit of head scratching and asked the internet, this rather unusually resulted in an actually useful answer from a proper barry.
It turns out that what I took to be an earth wire on the motor that didnt appear to be connected to anything was a signal return from the switching/diode setup on the back of the pod motor.
With some extra direction from Barry and setting up a test rig on the bench I soon got the result I was after.
I then had to ransack the old loom for some relay plugs to make up a little sub loom that sits in the headlight pocket, there is heaps of room so should be fine.
And with some hours tidying and wrapping the front loom we have this sequence of exciting light based goodness;
Next is looking at why the washer isnt pumping.
Then maybe tomorrow I'll drop the engine....

there are diodes on the back of the headlight motors that blow or vibrate off.

Na i have solved it. I misunderstood that what appeared to be an earth wire was actually a signal return from the diode/switching gubbins. I need an extra relay for each side and a bit of loom jiggery pokery, but its all sorted.

Yea there was so much fuckery going on that there was no way I could work with it. However I may have overreached my abilities.

I couldn't afford anything spectacular for the Fiat so $80 goodrides in 175/70-13 will do for now. They look legit.
