  1. standard stz... 2gauge? about 15mm? Not good with cable sizes. But if its got the same voltage at the solenoid (engine bay) as it does at the battery (in the boot) shouldn't that be ok? I know you lose a fair bit with the length of the cable but surely 12.5 Volts is enuf?
  2. Ok, I'm confused... There is not enough power to spin starter properly, let alone crank the engine... I've checked the voltage along the line (batt in boot) and its got full power to the solenoid but unless the battery is fully topped up (to 14+ Volts) then the car wont start. Even at 12.5 volts at the solenoid it's not enough to crank over... My guess would be stuffed starter motor? causing too much resistance = not enuf spinning action... The solenoid is only 8 months old... I've cleaned all the connections I can find/reach... Also, the battery will drop from fully charged to 12ish volts in 3-4 days of no use. The alternator is nearly brand new... I think that may be because of my shitty alarm (5 years old), its a battery backup stz one and the internal battery is a bit sad, so might be drawing too much/enough to sap surface charge = no start... Any advice? How do I check the current draw of my alarm? I've got a multimeter but still a noob at using it...
  3. Yeah, it was all good, I jsut underestimated the height of the bell housing... Not quite enuf room for me and the gearbox underneath to fully clear the chassis, ment I had to slide out from under the g/box rather than lowering it off my chest to the side, also limited room cause I had the jack (with a block of wood on it - davidian) supporting the end of the engine to take pressure of the mounts etc. Was a dodgy enuf operation as it was without adding wooden blocks to the mix...
  4. Yeah, they say to remove exhaust manifold too but my exhaust bend was out of the way enough for me to drop it out. Nearly crushed myself tho... The jack would only go so high and there wasnt enough clearance for me to lower it off my chest onto the ground... Had to slide myself out from under it! Fuck knows how I'm gonna get it back in again... might have to get it towed after all. *edit: i was using axle stands but the jack would only let me use them at a certain height... not silly enuf to get under the car with just a jack (anymore)...
  5. Hey, just a quick noob stz question... I've blown up my gearbox and for removal the workshop manual says to drain the box and also the radiator/cooling system too... Do I really need to drain the coolant as well or should I be right? it's a 1600 x-flow & 2000E g/box cheers
  6. Crazy! That looks like it should be an after shot not the before! That bug is hot too! Mean camber & love teh steelies
  7. FUCK! thats looking awesome! I didn't see the pin striping before, looks mean, so does the roof racks. The wheels are looking cool in black, dunno how much its gonna help to reduce cop attention tho! Should post it up on Hoodride too when shes nearly done. loving teh VW cutout in the sub too, sum red leds or sumthin shining behind would be sweet.
  8. Mean looking car! Black rims should look sweet, hows the interior coming along? Not a bad list of cars considering the first three you had before you even got ur license lol, I'm still on my first! Still love the Vitesse tho, can't believe how advanced they were... but being one of like 7 in whole of NZ kinda made it tricky to modify and being so original you probly shouldn't anyway. Keep the pics coming I've hosted the tardme ones here: http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e130/cortinamk2/ My fav bit is the gear stick and rusty spanner tied to the indicator stalk!
  9. Yeah, cause surely it'd be hard to stuff up that badly on a cam belt instal? maybe? hopefully?
  10. Would it pass if you just popped out the blue inserts for wof then stick em back in after? Could even plug the hole with something so less suss? *edit* if you are planning on changing the shape of the taillights completely from rectangle to round you're probably screwed to begin with... */edit*
  11. only if you get caught...
  12. Hey, haven't posted for a while.... uni etc = mad busi Well the rebuild went well, hell more power, be around 114bhp - getting dyno soon. Had a set back couple of weeks ago while trying to wake the neighbors by leaving first in a cloud of tyre smoke at 7500rpm + my poor gear changing skills = hit the gate and blipped to 9 Killed 2 exhaust valves and bent 4 push rods = gutted etc then after my mechanic fixed that for hell good deal (no labour cost stz) my alternator all but fell off while driving down the freeway... heres the remains... literally fell apart when undoing bolts. Obviously didn't like the hideously high revs etc being commonwhore spec and all... All good now with rally spec Lucas 65amp beasty, might try to take sum new car pics one day, maybe...

    lowering seats?

and then you could just sit on the floor...
  14. Or you can get fancy and go for the Hella H4 conversion. So next time they blow you only need a new bulb... the down side? excy to buy. i got mine for $90pr (AUS) retail at 120+. see hella.com
  15. i could make a bit exporting mine to the uk... they cant get a rust free mk2 cortina at any price and the values are going up daily. Mk 1 twin cam eskies are going nutz too.
  16. sum more rebuild pics... new block; old head; clean head with os valves (gemini) hd springs and port job: partly assembled:
  17. ps: urs might have rooted the contacts or something. try removing it and see if they are too durty to form a connection... u might be lucky and find that some cleaning off of all the shit will restore the connection... or just find a reconed one, shouldnt be too much $$$
  18. Mine used to get 'stuck'. I would press the button but just get a whirring noize. The pinion would get stuck on a chip in the spiral shaft thingy and the only way to unstick it was to lossen the starter bolts and shake it hard till i herd it come loose, would start fine atfer that... till the next time it got stuck. i just went to the wreakers and grabed a rooted one for ten bucks that had the part i needed (the part was mint cause the sleave had protected it from rusting) and had an auto elecy chuck the part on to my gstarter for another $10
  19. Hi, I was refered to this site by my bro who has just moved back to Paraparaumu. I originally come from there and thought i'd check this site out cause i might be coming back at some stage.
