  1. just realised i have not updated this in a while since last pics i have done a HID conversion on main headlights and spotlights (converted spotlights to orange) got new caster arms, RCAs, balljoints, diff bushes and repainted my sills, lip and engine bay ive also added a new SSQV, HKS EVC3 and TurboXS controller for turbo1 prespool mod. it will be taken to Brendan Duncker when hes back, for a retune to 13psi turbo1, 15psi low setting, 18psi high setting, and see what power it makes, hoping for a reliable 260wkw so lastly im waiting on some new stickers, and a clean and polish, and she should be ready to rock summer
  2. by body loom i mean the wiring thats already attached to your chassis, that feeds your dash cluster and so on. is that totally missing/stripped off your car? if so i guess you will need to go find a wrecked cressida or something and steal the entire cluster and wiring, to fit into yours. but surely you dont have a missing body loom...? and yeah id totally buy the shell back for the right price if interior is still mint. problem is im living in an apt in town and already got 3 cars - no property to store it! damn it. id get a 2jz-ge for it, bin all the electrics and run triple carbs on trumpets. one day...
  3. sure - it wasnt too hard - from memory the wires for the dash loom were not the same colour but we were able to match up most wires from wiring diagrams for the body loom of the 71 and the engine (mine was a 3rd gen 1ggte from daves (looonie) soarer. everything worked incl engine check light, oil pressure, temp, etc etc. only the RPM was wrong because we only got pulse from one bank of the dizzy, so everything read at half-rpm. no shit. reliable source? i wonder if its salvageable. id totally buy it back if the interior was in good nick, and chassis/rear quarters not bent...
  4. yeah with a bike or quad or something unsecured in the tray, and a really tasteless personalised plate, what was it again xoxo gossip girl
  5. yeah agreed. honestly thought i was outta here, had visas all paid for etc, and then, the next minute.. maybe one day someone will bust out a black and red door, and ill be happy with that.
  6. posted in the build thread by accident. fender mirrors are making this ride. whats the plan for chin spoiler? are you leaving the front grille and lights as is?
  7. ps: you may have noticed that almost all the photos linked in this build thread have gone down... thats because the host of my files has decided to not renew his domain... everything is still there and will come back alive again when he does renew, but until then here is a flickr set of pieces of history of my build. man i miss this car http://www.flickr.com/photos/lofreq/set ... 747777261/
  8. its that time where a project is reduced to a bunch of "parts" scavenged off and transplanted elsewhere in the world... much like i was finding panels and bodywork of my old civic on other ppls rides.. this guy has my front lip. dudes from Waihi, says he got the lip off another guy with a KE70, dunoo where that guy was from or how he got it as well... EDIT: Confirmed, other dude with KE70 was from New Plymouth. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =408300138 wonder where everything else got parted off to. probably a bush in New Plymouth. thanks "Vincent" :/ Plate Number: FBZ363 Vehicle make: TOYOTA Vehicle model: CRESSIDA Vehicle year: 1987 Vehicle colour: BLACK New Owner: VINCENT ROBINSON Residential Address: 77 Govett Avenue Frankleigh Park New Plymouth Land Transport NZ reference number: 86034GB Receipt number: 1293345 Transaction date/time: 9 Oct 2009 7:47 p.m. anyone around this fool's area, keep your eyes peeled in the bushes if u driveby
  9. got the last set of dot coms from Nick at Platinum Wheels, via Magwarehouse. they actually only had 3 rims and had to find a 4th off a demo wall or something and that was the very last of it. whilst at the 4&rotor show in aucks i bumped into a dude at the mag&turbo stand where i was looking at some advanti ADVAN copy wheels (looked like RG copies) and was asking about them in 18x9.5 +15 as they were quite concave, dude was like, "nah, dont come in 5x114, 5x120 only - but i got some concave wheels u might like, personally, for sale?" and he had these - just fell into my lap after id given up ever finding a set. so, just lucky, met the right person, and deal was done i advertised the .coms for ages on trademe until some guy in nelson bought them. pretty cheap too by the end of it incl tyres. sigh. ahh, the other car.. <3 i got no cash thru winter as the other car soaked up all my savings... but i have got dual boost controllers to be fitted to this thing, and brand new turbos, so i can retune for some solid power. goal is about 250wkw daily using an EVC3 controller and the turbo1 prespool mod for 13psi below 3800rpm (as opposed to 9psi stock) big difference. right now its about 15psi below 3800 and then 10psi up top lol, its like a rocket till you get ast 4k rpm then just stock. hah. EVC3 will fix that. found a crashed uncompliable JZA80 supra with 3,800kms on the clock genuine. turbos are like brand new, not even carbon build up on exhhausts. gonna chuck em on for some good times. may have aimgain kit on the way also....
  10. update. new shoes, new tails. play it, sam
  11. hrm yeah i heard that the guy worked at pak n save down there and drove it to work/parked outside every day... and then someone else saw it come into a parts place all smashed up, obviously still driving under its own power... but yeah perhaps if the owner doesnt care then it may be left to rot/become irrepairable, which is a disappointment cus it was in such nice condition inside, and only small bits of rust outside that was only just starting to come thru again. i spent ages on that custom headlight / front setup so to hear it smashed up was sad :/
  12. just out of interests sake - at last check the new owner ATTEMPTED a new wof in April 2010 which failed, at 288,000kms!!! i sold her at 225ks, the fools put on like 10,000kms every month! i was told that it was seen in new plymouth after it was stacked into a bank, front / left is wrecked, and its been on rego exemption ever since. if anyone has seen progress on this car in new plymouth since, please let me know! id love to have it back!
  13. couplea hardparkin shots from matakana over a recent weekend
  14. TBH it really depends on your monitor - it looked like a greeny yellow on my monitor at home, here at work it looks like a vivid tangelo, and from all the other responses it must look like a million other shades as well however the intent was a greeny yellow, and i think what i was after was a richer hue of the BMW M3 Mustard Yellow - you know what im talking about. ill work on getting the Wolf S36's first, then get that CarModify Wonder kit i was looking at before, and drop it all off at GT Refinishers and get grant to work his magic for some perfect fitment anyway im just feeling the colour contrast, looks like fun yknow. just want to get in and drive it looking at that photochop - i believe this sensation is known as inspiration
  15. quick update, the chaser is fixed again, and back on the road. was a huge mission trying to get jzx100 turbo parts to replace the smashed hub and brake components, especially when finding out that jzx90/100 parts, while interchangable, are not actually the same. end result is a frankenstien of 90/100 parts and turbo/nonturbo parts. anyway its done now, took her down to the viaduct to piss around with some photos during a brief bit of sun that came out on sunday for 5 mins inbetween massive weatherstorms and earthquakes and whatever else is happening these days hardparking with my brother’s new euro L ;p next up – have just purchased a walbro 500hp in-tank to replace the struggling stock 1G pump, this is going in with the SAFC and couple of other tidy-up mods, package is going in for proper tuning and see what it will do reliably at about 1bar or so. will keep ya’s posted.
  16. damage is: - hub lower arm mount point is snapped off completely, and still bolted to the lower arm itself - caliper lower mount bolt sheard off and is still stuck in the hub - caliper itself is cracked from being twisted with a rotor still in it - rotor/drumbrake/all components are grenaded - mag attempting to look like pacman what looks fine is: - both lower arms - trailing arm - upper A arm (all saved by being on balljoints hence being able to bend about once the lower arm hub mount snapped off) - coilover - halfshaft (possibly...) car is towed to slipway HQ temporarily - i intended to try to fix it there but theres no space, and its been raining like a bitch and car is out in the open on the shared driveway. so ive bitten the bullet and will cough up to tow it again to a proper shop to get repaired.
  17. SAFC still in glovebox, not wired up yet. will need to soon, as it runs rough on boost. suspect leaning out/knocking due to lack of fuel from the 1G pump, which i will upgrade later. airbag wheel is in the boot - i chucked on a bosskit from the jzx90 parts car and the wheel, extended the horn connector by manually running a length of wire round the boss kit innards, and my "airbag canceller" involved pulling the bulb outta the dash permanently. certification states you can only remove an airbag steering wheel out of a car only if it is 14yrs old or older, and if you do, you need to also disable every other airbag in the vehicle (passenger airbag, side airbags etc) and you need to sign a disclaimer stating you have done so, have a warning sticker attached to each area where the airbag has been removed, and pay an additional $50 on the cert cost to cover all this. my car is 1996 which JUST got in under the age restriction, so no problem removing the wheel for me. if i had the old wheel id be crashed by now, its horrendous, way too slippery to grip, and the spokes are so fat that its real difficult to spin and grab it real quick during switches/manji's
  18. wheels back on now. front needs lower by about 1.5cm. will do this when i get my hub locating rings for these .com mags, which are on the way this week. i actually wound the fronts completely down, and it got this low but with tyres spraying rubber over the fenders when you turn, and suspension arms on bumpstops making it quite undriveable. final height should be 2/3 between this and the above current height. tints coming next, and some new LED bulbs, also sorting some more professional photos, need to find an appropriate location somewhere tho if anyone knows a cool location around aucks lemme know
  19. thanks for the tip on speed sensor - will def hunt that down and connect - very likely that hasnt been connected. cheers bro as for emissions - yes im told that any engine repower/swap/induction change (even if swapping the same motor back in) is now subject to emissions test - i guess because anything other than original needs to show it is not super polluting. emissions test is extra $50 on cert, involves certifier hooking up wideband etc to cigarette powered suitcase sized monitoring unit that he drives round with in the passenger seat. amazingly mine passed with flying colours despite no cat and straight thru exhaust - he says this is largely due to quality of the factory ECU. assume an aftermarket unit would be quite alot worse if just tuned for on-boost power..
  20. finally: now i can finally roll legit. still feel like im rolling against the law on my way back from the post office - not used to it! feel like im gonna get pulled over any second hah. will take a bit of time to get used to driving round now. so next up : - swap proper wheels back on and stance it out proper - give it a proper clean!!! and some proper photos - contemplating stealthing out the IC and piping gunmetal or flat black - need to trace the problem with the engine check light coming on after 15mins of driving - need to test clutch to ensure its not slipping on motorway under boost in 3rd/4th as it FEELS like it... - LED bulbs swap - install my sounds that ive been sitting on since forever - ROADTRIP!!! nige
  21. thanx man. ima just stance it out stockbody for now, i quite like how it looks now tbh just wheels and stance - simple and honest and tough. but down the line if necessary, ill get a kit. my first choice is of course the aimgain kit. but failing that it will be the car modify wonder kit because its not as overly agressive as the BN kit, and its more readily available. and for $790 landed its even affordable!. but to tell the truth im really not too fussed right now maybe ill wait till i spin off into an armco, then ill have an excuse
  22. ok so, havent updated this for a lil while, been busy etc. so heres whats happened. after a flurry of work from my mate evan, the chaser saw its exhaust completed finally – and i set about swapping the tourer V front brakes on. i also finalised the gauges and tacho layout, plumbed the turbo1 prespool controller, sorted the electric fans thermoswitch, just all the last few bits and pieces. FINALLY it was time to get her off those blasted jack stands and back on its four feet again. here she is once again at ground level, suddenly it looks rearing to go all looking pretty stock in there! unfortunately after getting her down and firing her up, we realised nothing was going to happen – it had been pissing down and the garage exit was a mud swamp, the chaser was stuck behind davy’s head-less R32, and Waz’s beast that was locked and Waz not home! all we could do was chuck her into reverse and 1st and roll up and down about 3 feet. god dammit! but she was running and as far as we could tell all seemed ok. also found that the rear tucks sweet and has heaps of travel after rejacking the front to roll the fenders a bit more lol this was on friday night and i was off to Sydney (another story) for a week the very next morning so i couldnt make any more progress myself, but whilst wandering around Darling Harbour i got a txt from Mike going on about how loose the car was! obviously it was out and about on the road terrorising mt wellington - hence this photo cropping up on our blog a lil while later: awesome. the news sounded good, and i was itching to get home to take her out. my chance finally came the saturday after when i was back in aucks and managed to get back to the garage – the boys informed me that, while it was performing great for the most part, the clutch seemed to slip under load once the motor was getting down to business… and just recently it seemed to stop boosting properly – somethign was wrong. a quick testdrive found a simple problem – the turbo2 IACV controller vac line had popped off and was no longer opening the airstream from turbo2 – i was only running off 1 turbo at 10psi max. reconnecting this line brought us back to full power and the car was all over the road at the touch of the throttle – totally crazy in the greasy conditions. it also randomly hits boostcut, and after about 15mins of starting up, the engine check light mysteriously comes on. teething problems that will be worked on nonetheless. either way, that was it for now, and the machine was baby’d home in the wet, back to my apartment block basement where it used to live yes, it is also time to stop using my goddamn cellphone for these grainy as fuck pics – i dont own a proper camera so once this thing is legal i will be keen on a proper hard parker fatlace parkup shoot somewhere… ;> so i think that concludes “Stage One” of this project!!! next up on the list is certification, and then WOF and REG and officially its out and on the prowl. not the end of the project by any means, i have yet to give it a full wheel alignment, and complete the necessary mods for cert – but as a more interesting teaser i have an SAFC lined up to install, then its off to the dyno for some baseline runs and fine tuning! i hope this setup is making about 220wkw stock, and perhaps 250wkw with a tune, if the fuel pump allows. (safe limit on stock twins is 265wkw, so im not gonna push it – there is bucketloads of torque already – u can putt around town at 50kmh in 5th at just above idle, drives brilliantly!) the LSD is tame enough around carparks but a blip on the gas just off the mark will kick the arse out and get you goin... so it seems to have the makings of a killer streeter. i am stoaked! 2jz? no shit. next up - cert mods, SAFC, clean up the guards and fix paint, and some proper pics...
