  1. Nice, will investigate Yeah i have what i believe is a s3/4 rx2 column. Is it an engine out job to swap? Factory rubber joiner thing has bolts through both ends, would only use a joint with the same.
  2. Thanks, that sounds like what im after, was it an off the shelf item?
  3. Some genius at Mazda thought it would be a good idea to put a rubber block thing on the end of the steering column, between column and steering box (RX2 s2), it went away on s3 rx2. Can i replace it with a bit of steel bar with the splines broached in, or some kind of welded creation? Looking to improve steering from scary to average. I do have a s3 column i could swap out but not sure what would be less hassle, not that keen to remove column. Vehicle will most likely have to be certed.
  4. Flippin sweet, it can get plugged for now
  5. Could i use a proper starter motor ali snout casting bit and swap this over? Would require running the power wire right around the starter body
  6. Havent started looking yet but im guessing theres about a zillion switches to choose from, any recommendations? Pic for 180deg self induced fuck up.
  7. Thinking i might try to rig some kind of microswitch the plunger part can trigger and bin the top half altogether
  8. Made a start at ruining it modifying it last night
  9. Yeah thinking it may pay to cut it open and see if it can be turned down or something, or use it as a shell for a smaller dia one to hide inside ... something
  10. Good point! Failed to consider LHD haha. I will google magnetic reed switch and learn myself up. Or your other idea and mount it so stick pushes it could be a go, may be a bit more tricky/unreliable with wobbly stick to wobbly switch? I got you now, stick to trigger reed switch
  11. If not needed for Wof then i will just plug the hole. I can get a pic, but the old one is mangled, ground down, and dropped causing a hole so not really
  12. Got a new starter that is supposed to be ok for rx2/3/4. Unfortunately the solenoid is on the opposite side to the old starter and fouls the reverse switch. RX5 TQX gear box, rx4 bellhousing. Other than this it seems to fit ok. Anyway i cant return the starter (not worth the shipping to the US), so does anyone have any ideas on a work around? I do have a bit of clearance maybe 10mm if there was some kind of low profile switch it could maybe fit. The factory one is pretty bulky. Shot Nick
  13. tl:dr, but pulse & glide works awesome (if you have a manual trans)
  14. Will test that tonight, couldnt find one that was always live, must try harder
  15. But will it turn off with key?
  16. RX2 I did blow some fuses but have replaced. Yeah i've been doing a bit of wiring, im an amateur though. Installed 4 new relays (fuel pump, fan, currently 1 x ign coil cranking, 1 x ign on for coil to get around this issue) My ignitors (rx7 elec dizzy) tested bad so im going to a 3 ignitor set up so i can run coil on plug wasted spark on leading plugs. Would like to simplify relays by having just one trigger wire and one ign relay. And oil press gauge (Podi brand) needs 12v when cranking & running too or apparently it breaks it. The factory ign relay is removed, dont know if this would affect it. I think it was just to bypass ballast resistors.
  17. I cant find a wire that is 12V while cranking and ign on key position to trigger coil relay. Can I wind two wires together (I have a cranking wire and an ‘on’ wire) to create one wire that does both to trigger? Or will this back feed or some shit?
  18. Used heat gun to remove stubborn radiator hose last night - makes it so easy!
  19. Wicked ute man, these are everywhere in thailand (must have bought the tooling from mazda) - may be a source of parts
  20. Weeeeelll, technically, he said if theres a boss there it would fail, which there isnt
  21. True, i'll have to be more onto it i guess. So cert man is going to suitably unimpressed with just one stud ya reakon? (held engine in ok for many years)
  22. I'll get one tonight. Below is from google, left is passenger, right is drivers side presumably - have been looking for one for 10+ yrs. Edit; May not be a twin dizzy specific set up - saw a pic of a twin diz cover on ebay with the 4 studs. Dont think its a year of manufacture thing as mine is '73 so not that early or late (rx2 manufactured 71-78 i think). R100 i think was side mounted too.
  23. Didnt describe my set up very well sorry. From factory twin diz rx2 engine was mounted off of the front plate (end housing) with two studs on each side and angled brackets to the cross member i.e. not mounted off of front cover. Im running a basic rx4 style 13b where the front plate doesnt have the two studs on each side that the factory 12a had, still has two on the passenger side but only one on drivers side so the drivers side has a basic bracket to the one stud that is on the plate down to the cross member using standard square rubber mount. Would like to just leave it like this to avoid more work changing over to mounting off of front cover, and i like the look. Worst case scenario i'll front mount off cover and next engine drill/tap a stud to replicate factory 2 stud mount off of plate. Not much meat on r5 type plates but i think there will be enough if i go right through to the inner water gallery ... or some shit
  24. How many bolts do you need holding your engine in? Factory twin dizzy 12a was two on side of front plate both sides, later plate only has one stud on drivers side - previous owner has made a bracket to mount on this one stud, never had wof probs in the past but bit worried it will get pinged during cert
