Well, between holding down a job and studying at uni, the car hasent really gotten a look in for the last month or so. Got some jobs done today though. Gave up on the pie section idea, and went for pre-made bends. Tacked the pickup together and made a support for it half way along its length. Will weld it completely when i get my tig welder in a couple of months (saving is so hard!). Cut the side profile for the sump from some card, and put it in place to see how everything will clear, got it right first time for once! Clears everything inside the block nicely, and looks like i'll be able to get the engine about an inch lower than initially thought, which is awesome. Now, the important bit, pictures! Got some sweet hub-caps for the steels, which will be widened: Went and picked up the diff from my parents, its from an isuzu piazza. Should fit without to many issues. Hah! thats fuck classic 4 speed should work, but you might need to modify the lockout plate a bit.

Whats the plastic bush on the ball on the bottom of the knob like? Their often totally fucked, or missing altogether and make a pretty big difference.

Yeah, i rekon a cheapy chinese one will be fine for the infrequent use i'll give it. Probably going to go for one of those mitech 200's, AC/DC, a few adjustments and what not. $1500 including torch and foot control.

Holy crap that new welder is a joy to use, seriously outstrips my meager abilities, but is miles and miles ahead of my other little one. Got the pipe together today, looks good after some grinder and file action. Welding didnt look to shit hot before hand, but i made sure it had plenty of penetration. Once the flange is on i'll check it for leaks with some meths or other thin liquid. Made a start on putting the flange on, but kept getting the angle wrong, so i gave up for the night.

Washing machine case? heh, thats what alot of my dad's one tonner is made out of. Next time your in repco, have a look at the shelves out the back, they're just over 1mm thick mild steel, hah. The powercoating is a bitch to get off, but one of those has served me well so far. Someone climbed on one and bent it a bit, no good for the store, but good for me, hah!

yup, custom sump is the plan, i dont see it being to tricky, and i know a couple of people i can take it to to tell me how stupid im being and how it SHOULD be done, heh. Fuel should have put one in his viva, but its the same front rear sump thing. God i hope my idea works, or im up shit creek, and im really not sure its going to.... Ahh well, wont learn any other way!

Went and got some 19mm pipe this morning to play with, then got stuck in. Made pie sections with 15deg angles each side, meaning each one turns 30deg. 3 of these, plus a 15deg angle on the peice coming from the flange gives me 105deg in total, about what i need. Getting the pipe bent would be better, but i dont have a pipe bender, and no one i know has one that can do 19mm pipe, or a tigh enough radius. Oce ive built this bit i'll sit it in some oil and spin the pump up with an electric drill to check it flows. Fingers crossed, as im really making it up as i go. Stuck at the moment till i get the cortina mounts im planning on using, which is later this arvo, as they'll sit the motor closer to the crossmember. Taped some exhaust tube in the place of the rack to check clearance, looking good as this height, but we'll see with the other mounts. I'd really like the motor as low as possible.

Cant really loan out my new welder, but your more than welcome to shoot over and use it. I only have CO2 tho, not as good as argon mix, but its still better than gasless.

Old welder is up for grabs, swing me a txt if your keen? I'd be after around $350 with a regulator aswell i rekon. I think i paid $500 odd for it on staff when i bought it... Comes with whatever wire is in it aswell, hah! Can also do you a cheap deal on an auto darkening helmet like mine. Yeah, im hoping the cortina mounts will make it sit a bit lower, just getting the sump to clear will be the majour issue.
