If i was to do it again I'd probably swap a F20c Honda motor in.
I spent about 13k on the m10 in my car (engine builds snowball!!) and it smacks out about 190hp at the flywheel.

M50 would probably be best bang for buck as said. But yeah. F20c

A standard m44 wouldn't be too bad, but theyre not super amazing engines as far as horsepower goes. Fuck that m3 motor is money well spent.

I can't claim the idea, but richy talked about a BMW inline six. Not a bad idea, as theyre cheap. Go for a M50 B25 (twin cam 2.5) which has similar hp/torque to a RB25de? Can run a M20 (mid 80s/e30s/early E34) gearbox for manual. Not overly expensive for these either. If you did, just make sure go for non vanos. Oh, theres also M50 manual gearbags too, but rare.

Shit me a barra tyurbo one with a bit more boost would be hilarious. They make for hilarious skids. That's your fuel economy straight out the door though, mind you.
