  1. hey boes Can anyone recomend someone in auckland who can tune up my new/old 4g63? Just needs mixture set and timing etc... I can't do it coz im a n00b! and is currently running rich as fuck. also anyone got a spare exhaust manifold gasket for the above/just go to ripco?
  2. yeah I know, fucking bizzare, but thats the problem with buying some wierd old thing from dannevirke haha, oh well is all going good now, chucked a new/old carb from the old pstar on there, is identical and now idles so thats nice. Goes in tonight to get the zorst welded on so will stop sounding like a tractor... hopefully don't get arrested on the way to the shop... also the gearbox is doing a very wierd thing where I have to push down to engage 1st and second... odd... I think I maybe put the top plate thing on incorrectly (where the gearstick goes in) still works just took a while to figure out how to engage 1st and second.. will have to sort shortly... kinda annoying... any ideas what I might have fucked up?
  3. in other news... contemplating replacement carb... what is a a good easy conversion for the 4g63? and has anyone got anything lying around?
  4. tried a different battery... no change also tried a different coil... no change... resistance wire???
  5. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ yeah thats what i figured too, but I cleaned up all the earths and they are primo....AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH so much pain haha, plus I already blew up one battery charger... ooops left it on while cranking it over... BOOM!
  6. ok, im fucking baffled, checked the wiring diagram today and everything appears to be correct, however i am still getting hot positive terminal... smoke coming off it etc when I wind it over... any idea why this would be? I checked all the earths they are ok I checked the starter motor and that works fine on the bench, also checked the switching wire for the starter and that is working properly... so why would the positive battery terminal be getting hot when I wind the engine over? I suspect this problem is probably causing the coil issues...
  7. yeah thats right... I have no voltage with the wires off... with them on I get 7ish and 12ish. the dizzy has 2 wires coming off it... should not one be to the positive and one to the negative side of the coil? thats how it was set up before... I have no idea why the battery terminals are getting hot... something is clearly backward
  8. ok the negative side is reading 7.5v and the positive side says 12ish. just with the ignition on (not cranking her over) however I have a sneaking suspicion I have more than just the coil issue.. when I was testing it I had the voltmeter negative on the battery negative... Both neg and pos terminals on the battery got super hot after just a few seconds cranking... hmmm I think i have a bit of a serious fuckup in my wiring somewhere... might have to turn it over to some proffessionals as much as I hate doing that...
  9. all the wires unplugged... then there is no charge going to the coil? or with just the main live feed hooked up and not the others? will go do that in a sec and report back.. really appreciate this by the way
  10. Haha um, is not getting as far as the dizzy, no spark at the lead that goes to it. Ok... n00b question time... where am i checking voltage... across the + and- terminals of the coil? because when ignition is on both sides appear to have current out... in which case do I just test each terminal individually? or am I supposed to be testing the centre plug thing where the spark generates from? sorry n00b stuff no doubt and what should the voltage be? 12ish volts???
  11. um... nope, don't think so... will make sure though yeah? doesnt appear to be earthing to the chassis anywhere...
  12. yup tried that also... both coils and leads... everything in fact was working in both previous incarnations... ie, donor car started and ran and the orange car was running like a dream so i suspect it must be me being a retard with regards to a conection somewhere.... quite frustrating I must say.
  13. Hey dude, yeah have tried 2 different leads from coil to dizzy... still no spark... is beginning to drive me insane! any other ideas gladly accepted
  14. Hey kids, ok so the engine and box is in, everything is connected (I do have some spare wires mind.. hmm ok She is turning over, problem is I have no spark from the coil... I am assuming it is wired wrong... however It is set up exactly the same as when I pulled it outta the donor. any ideas how i can check what is wrong? could there be something blatantly stupid I have not hooked up... an earth or something? i dunno throw what you have at me. how it was in the donor... current setup identical... just wondering if there is a wire down below somewhere I cant see.. I appear to have a spare wire (yellow but in a black sleeve) by the alternator which appears to be live when ignition is on... don't know if that is relevant to anything??
  15. could skip the museum thing personally, but yeah a jaffaham meet is prob overdue.
  16. Please explain... wiring + me normally = fire extinguisher needed and dont wanna blow anything up
  17. so Caboon Wrote: Mod the original 1st gen lancer alternator bracket (angle grinder) to fit onto the 4g63 as the 1st gen lancer uses external voltage regulator and the 4g63 is fitted with an internal regulator.Ya can take the external voltage regulator outa the lancer and use the normal 4g63 alternator however.Fuckn bang Well I managed to snap one of the mounts of the old (4g32) alt so now need to use the one from the 63... Tell me how to bypass/remove the regulator. Need to know what I need to do with the wires etc/which ones to cut and join or whatever/gimme a pic of a finished one or something... help before I blow shit up haha... electrics = not my strong suit
  18. Yup thats the girl... remarkably straight under all that fucking camo... ridiculous even. seems a shame to scrap the shell. Oh well. Oh and if anyone has a link to video of it at skidfest would love to see it for lols if anyone wants a lovely lancer shell, and can pick it up from auckland..? currently has no doors and no bonnet and no interior. good door cards etc let me know. (oh and you can have the doors off the orange one when I get round to swapping them... they not actually that bad) oh it also has no engine... unless ya want the original 1200 haha PS: photoshoot for sure, when it is done/closer to done haha
  19. yeah fully, soon as I get the new doors painted up and on... currently must photo at sneaky angles so as not to show the doc martin (or similar) panel work on most of the doors haha. just as well he donor has 3 mint doors on her! Ps, will get rocks shortly, engine first then rocks for the boot... maybe even install custom rock holder in engine bay for all round adjustables/ "got the neeewww rockbags bay!"
  20. e-net/e-lubs all up in teh house
  21. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Wicked, cheers for that dude... decidedly useful info, you = ftw, true story
  22. yeah should be a bit of fun with the 63 in there Had to get it all together quick as it is my daily as well as project... we shall see if the speedy timeframe stays on track when I do the transplant as me=n00b when it comes to that sorta thing. and yeah it is cimmaron... I imagine same colour as celeste, well at least the paint colour on the cans I used said cimmaron and it appears to be a pretty close match? dunno could be a good match with the faded version of whatever colour it used to be perhaps???
  23. plans just 4g63 transplant, when my l200 gearbox arrives. LOWER as it desperately needs it. then swap the doors from the donor on... the current ones are pretty wavy. and tidy up the paint so it all matches.. think Im gonna stick with the factory cimmaron at this point.. has grown on me
