    Want a turbo now...

to sum RT up in a few words : ahem: TOLD YOU SO!

    Want a turbo now...

Having said that, putting a 302 in a falcon is alot cheaper than into a capri. The gearbox wont bolt up. You need to strengthen the body (I believe, well the Perena's were strengthened) and Im not sure if the firewall needs recessing. Decide what you want... a fast street car, or something with stupid amounts of tarmac shredding hp? If you just want a fast streeter, find the car that is about as fast as you want. Work out its hp/kg, then find an engine that will give you a similar (slightly higher ) result. Put that puppy in and presto - what you wanted.

    Want a turbo now...

I suggest you stop, take a deep breath (restore hurt pride) and think about this.... 7g for 30 hp gain, I doubt it. You havent dyno'd it. You Just thought same speed = same hp... I would suggest getting your back wheels on a dyno before you either a) feel too bad about that money on an engine or you sell it. At least then you have a "this pinto produces x hp" You want a fast street car? Are you worried about corners? If not a 302 will give you plenty of straight line speed. (yes I know they are heavy, but 400hp out of 5 L is easier and maybe cheaper than 400hp out of 2 L turb) btw - how much work on the engine did you do? or was it hired labour?
  4. I think he means lowering block. For leaf springs (van will have these in rear) the block raises the axle in relation to the bottom of the spring leaves, hence the body of the car drops. i.e ~==O==~ Axle with no lowering block .......O (the dots are there just to put the O in the right place ~==[]==~ Axle with block in place (the O is the axle, side on, the = is leaf spring, the ~ is end of leaf spring, the [] is lowering block) note - my ASCII drawing is shit, this prob doesnt help
  5. This is going to sound horrible but...... Never spend money on a car with the intention of getting it back. Doing up cars is a black hole for money. However, for the best chance at making your money back... Do things that tart it up, yes the paint job. Search buy-sells and trade me for tidy interior. There is a guy in CHCH who does new carpet for about $200. To keep cost down you will want to do work by yourself or with mates. A mechanic (or auto trimmer) will cost you are $50 an hour to get work done to your car. Some things cant be helped, but there is potential to throw alot of money away here. When you get new (second hand) mags, try to find ones with second hand rubber on them. (or at least get second hand ones through a shop). If you have no intention of keeping the car past christmas putting brand new rubber may be a waste of $5 - 600 dollars.
  6. I thought the comment was eagers arent made anymore. But yea I realise they are 14'' (and rather wide as well)
  7. You sure they dont make them any more? http://bridgestone.co.nz/default.asp?Action=tyr.tread&tread_id=114
  8. Very, Very, Very nice. Like the fact you manage to incorporate aftermarket gauges without losing all your visibility! Also, whole interior looks brilliant. Very impressed. Can we get a shot of the engine bay? or is that work in progress ? and once more, cause I can. Excellent job
  9. does anyone else just not understand that? Or am I too old already
  10. the v6 doesnt have to have the turbo's etc. If is pretty potent in its NA mives form (I think it is about 200 kw), but yes if you started throwing turbos and intercooling in then you would run out of room quickly. I will say from experience though, the 6g72 I have in my V3000 wore out the valve guides pretty easily and I believe this engine has a habit of doing so, I imagine this could be prevented by throwing some money at the heads, valves etc. I think it would be wise to investigate this aspect if you chose to go down this path. No point having an engine you want to drive hard only to have it start crapping out.
  11. Yea - i tried to correct that but ended up making a new post with that corrected in the quote The pajero is mounted n-s so maybe gearboxes etc from there?
  12. Right... Widest point from head to head about 550mm Length (from furtherest pully to end of block) about 500 mm Exhaust manifolds stick around 80-100 mm from heads Induction system is about 300mm wide (sits inside length and width of V) These measurements were done in a running car, so there was plenty of crap in the way, but they should be really close.
  13. I have an old v3000 (88) same model as the ex-cop but not quite the same specs...(i think they had a few mods) mine is for sale on trade me now. What measurements do you want? (I'll take them for you)
  14. dont take what I am about to say as gospel... I believe that the 6g72 in a pajero is mounted N-S and therefore you could use the running gear (before transfer case) from an early 90's pajero as a basis. This might be a better bet than trying to mate a 2l mitsu engine with a random gearbox. However being 4wd the pajero gearbox ratios might be poo... but just put a long diff ratio on, its not like the v6 would struggle. The other upside to the 6g72 is that the GTO used them (They may be mounted n-s too) but this means all the go-fast bits (turbo's etc) from a GTO can be bolted on. I imagine your colt would be rather fun with 300+ bhp
  15. how big is the engine bay - you could always go mivec 6g72.... 201kw standard (I think) I mean, if you are converting from fwd to rwd, wont you have to go through the same hassles. But then I'm not sure on the weight of the colts standard engine vs the v6 (alloy heads, ot sure about block, cast I think - fuel will tell you). Anyway - I guess this really has nothing to do with your post as I havent done the conversion and have no idea how to do it.

    locks...

payed 3g.... not too bad - got standard stereo, wind up windows, and cloth trim. so not high spec, but bugger it an 8 is an 8, and it was driven by one guy in the one company for 15 years, he got it as part of redundacy (company went broke) so its been well maintained etc...

    locks...

(about the surf) Just tried blowning out lock with air, not any better but the crc coming out was black as - I imagine 280K kms worth of crud. So next step is to take out the barrel and soak it. Drivers door doing similar things so I'll either swap the driver/passenger barrel or get an alarm with central locking button thingy.... and not worry about locks (damn boot not being on the central locking).

    locks...

Cheers for the info on the wagon, you just got your hands on an ss didnt you? Have you been hiting the surf? Te Awanga been doing its thing?

    locks...

Hey, not oldschool I know - but I need to scratch some more knowledgeable heads. The boot lock on my 90 commodore wagon (mmm V8) is iffy, well was. I unlocked it, then locked it (fair amount of jiggling, then flattie had a go and he got it). Unlocked it this time and cant relock it. I have tried crc in the barrel to losen it up and the key slides in easier now, but still no luck. I think its clogged up with crap - what can I do? Is it worth firing air in there to try and blow stuff around? Can a lock barrel be taken out, cleaned and replaced? help

    gearbox conversion

DO IT!!!! Skip the pinto/toyota problem, Mate up an xr6T and its 6 speed manual. Just get a wrecked xr6 and go to play no wucken forries eh! Otherwise, if you arent going to up your horsies, go the w50. When (if) it breaks get it rebuilt stronger.
  21. v3k

    gearbox conversion

Are you done making the pinto powerful? if you are, maybe the W50 on its limit is the best bet. When it breaks, get it rebuilt stronger. If you plan on making even more hp - grab your ankles. Uncomfy now, but if you will HAVE to do it eventually....?

    Cleaning up

if its full of water (i.e foggy for warrant) Leave it parked with lights on high for a while. Lack of air flow will mean inside will get nice and hot and the water will evapourate, wont go away, but wont be seen for warrant.
  23. Im pretty sure pitstop would have a similar warranty to magoo's - which is 12 months. So hit them up if you have a receipt then you should be fine....
  24. Put kerosene in a weed sprayer, spray engine down (or use engine degreaser) and clean all, including everything under the engine. Then run it, have a good look for leaks and you should find one. If not, Im out of ideas. Whats is your car? My 4k leaked oil out from under the rocker cover (meh no biggie) but if your engines clean you wont see in
