  1. *rolls eyes* Can't please everyone I spose. But then again, it's just the drags. Won't kill ya to skip it. Plus, if like 99% of the rest of us, you'll never be arsed going down alone
  2. To further the discussion about cruise to Horopito this weekend. Auckland peeps are meeting at BOMBAY McDonalds at 7:30am. This is not the BP Solar at Drury/Papakura! Guess we shall be in Hamilton around 9am, so if someone from Hamilton wants to organise a place to meet and we can all catch up in Hams and then rock down to Horopito. I can be contacted on 027 418 4632 if anyone gets lost or is late. P.S. I'll be driving my daily so don't go looking for the Zephyr lol.

Are you sure it does this? Tetraethyl lead is primarity an octane booster, not a lubricant. Nup I'm not - but since my mechanic friend has been in the trade something stupid like 40 years, does the announcing for Pukekohe Race track alot, and as a result gets to tinker with some interesting cars and get cheap av gas and etc etc etc etc. You get the pictute? I think I'm more than likely inclined to believe him.
  4. Radio for the world!! Contemplated pulling out the radio for a while, see if I can get it going. Well, as luck would have it I pulled it out, discovered it was still wired for positive earth. *cue sad face* Not looking good for it working then since car been converted to Negative earth. Prodded around a bit and got a hint of a click from the audio stage. OOOOOOOOO! But wait! Switch has blown and saved the radio, so jimmy rigged a little click switch on wires and mounted it under the dash. Lubricated all the dial cords and pulleys, and got the light bulb working too. Also removed the aerial, freed up the 4 sections and lubricated them, couple of kinks so it won't fully de-extend, but fully extended it's a massive 1.8metres high Can't ask for better reception than that! But anyways, got me an original working VALVE car radio And pics....... (for those of you who don't know what valves are, they are the glass tubes in the picture, they were around before transistors - I collect valve radios (home ones) with my dad so had a fair amount of prior knowledge to get Zephs radio going) Crocodile clips and some poking and prodding gave promising results! Sockets where the valves plug into. Alot more wiring and generally more messy than todays modern transistors as you can see. The important bit, the valves! Those ones aint terribly impressive, they're little ones and the heaters use low voltage. Can get some much bigger ones that get very hot and can get some interesting electrical shorts inside for a nice show.

    fuel

Old mechanic friend of mine said not to bother, and just run some avgas through it every now and then keep the valve seats coated lightly with lead.
  6. Zephyr has a dual filament bulb for indicator and parkers, so both use the same clear lesne for a white light, so I can't see why not.

91 all the time. Will be doing some stints with avgas though, keep the seats coated with lead.
  8. Another update. Went out and got some bits for my birthday, including some autosol and rust converter. Attacked the rust on the firewall where the paints gone due to leaky clutch cylinder (some years ago). You can see where the rust has been turned black, apparently the surface can be left like that for 12 months. And some scrubbing with the autosol on the dash chrome (as well as everywhere else but theres more pics to come shortly with a couple other things to show as well). Bought the chrome up mint. Tip: An old toothbrush can be invalueable here for little nooks and crannies! Can also see the ciggie lighter I snuck into the factory hole down bottom left. This particular car didn't have one from factory, but they were a factory option. Feel free to flame my nasty camo mats - they were a 2005 xmas present from my Aunt and they've just been sitting in the Simca doing nothing. Since someones put new carpet in the Zephyr, I may as well try and keep it looking reasonable. More updates to come, within the next couple of days.
  9. You have confirmed the speedo in the dash works? Hook up a cordless drill and see, might have to find new speedo
  10. In other words. Take the whole switch and wiring loom from the drivers door righ to the pillar. That gives you switch, and plug and enough wire to play with as whatever electrician might find necessary
  11. Could take the Zephyr and show it off I spose. When is this anyways
  12. Yeah they're meant to last 100,000kms but if you maintain ya car then normals will do fine. More like 80, platinums are the 100k fuckers. Stuff that, unless you've got a dirty transverse V6 then theres no point spending $20+ per plug. Coppers are only supposed to be good for 30-50k's, but I've seen some pretty ancient ones still going Dads is a 2.4 Delica spacewagon. 3 of the plugs cant be got at without taking out all in the intake, wiper motor and linkages, etc etc etc etc. It's a like a 4 hour job for a mechanic to do and I wouldnt exactly call my dad slow as a mechanic. Pain in the ass thing. And i've told him they wont cost 20+ each, cause I have trade account at Partmaster
  13. Yeah they're meant to last 100,000kms but if you maintain ya car then normals will do fine. My dads van has done a little over 100,000kms on normal $4 each plugs. Never missfires, and always has decent spark. Problem is they such a cunt to get out. I reckon he should put iridiums/platinums in and get half a million kms from them
  14. Sure can. Down a hill with a tail wind! Much better
  15. Totally different engine mate. So is a 4age into an escort. Where theres a will theres a way.
  16. I've got some 14 inch Fiat steel rims that would probably go on it. Theres a thought! Buy my Uno turbo motor Ihave for sale on trademe and turbo the mofo!
  17. dont suppose you have a pic of that just out of interest Ditto, keen to see that.

    stud removal

Try heat first. More likely to do damage if you start drilling them out.
  19. And just cause I'm nice and haven't put pics up yet. Heres the mighty powerplant. Well, its probably not all that mighty, but its got that much torque - it pulls alot like a little school boy. And just for interests sake. Heres the exhaust manifold. The most horrible restrictive manifold on the face of the planet. A piece of pipe with holes for the exhaust ports. Speaking from experience, my old man said that extractors and a decent exhaust free up a ton of power in these, so thats a high priority. Intake manifold aint brilliant either, as I hear it creates hot spots in cylinders 5+6 due to leaning out, so will have to investigate that. However, every modification made to this car will be reversible. For example, I'll be keeping the original exhaust manifold so it can be returned to stock without problems.
  20. Well, after towing my busted trailer to Pinto Trailers on Sat to get it fixed when some hoe ran into it, and breaking down on the Harbour Bridge (stupid useless fuel guage), the starter decided it didn't need to have a complete armature anymore. Cue new starter - thanks Appco. And new starter installed. You can also see the button in the main power wire to the starter. Enables you to activate the starter from under the bonnet for timing etc adjustments. Not starting
