  1. If you can find a 2.8 Capri special they have Atlas back axles with slippers fitted as standard. I have a Gartrac LSD thats been reworked with larger side gears and a new clutch pack and bearings fitted when they bult my back axle. Not cheap but bloody strong...I hope!! This post ha sme wonder tho, I have no idea what LSD I have fitted to the Mk1?? Time to get oily me thinks!
  2. Sweet, I was thinking older than mid 80's tho mate.
  3. To fit these lights you have to remove the old ones anyway. So what ever you have fitted will not make a difference mate. As long as they are the same diameter?
  4. old f1 cars used to be huge mate, also turbos were unheard of, they used to go mad on supercharges tho, so i suppose thats a forced induction system, pretty much similar?
  5. ear plugs are pretty cheap??
  6. As Leon sugests yiu should know up front how much your springs are going to lower your car. Otherwise how do you know if you got the right ones? You should tell them what you want and they can order to suit. Just remember that spings are there for a reason and not for looks!
  7. They did a feature last year in Classic Ford mag, crazy car!!
  8. Some lowering blocks on my last Mk1 RS...
  9. Oh yeah, being a tart like me you can always just unscrew the top of the strut and slide the spring over the top...
  10. A calibrated FBH is always the best tool I find, Makes life a lot easier for everyone!
  11. On the other side of the coin, if you fit lower springs and jack the car up then they can fall out of the platforms. cable ties sort that problem dead easy tho!! If you want to do a proper cowboy job then you can cut a coil from your fronts. Not recommended but it does the job for looks alone...but dont do it, springs are cheap anyway. Rears are pretty easy also, as mentioned the blocks just bolt in place dead easy! I must have a pic of them some place, watch this space...
  12. Yeah I know now...DOH!! Took about two months in total from door to door, this included some storage so i could clear shit with customs and immigration first tho..
  13. Whole container, no mate...I had three!!
  14. I will keep posting progress reports as I do more work then, cheeRS!! Also if anyone needs any pictures of a particular item or job I may just have them on my files from past cars?? CheeRS dave...
  15. My mate Mark back in the Uk is really clever... Turrets, boxes, big diff tunnel and gusset brace sections Double skin bulkhead, big gearbox tunnel Etch primed... The force is strong in that one!!
  16. Read "perfectionist" as "tart" LOL, thats me fella!! I have some of the boxes going in if you want to go right back in time??
  17. I dont have any at all, its in a Mk1 my mate just bought. But the seller wants the engine back for his racer. Looks like I should have filled my countainer up more before I left the UK! 1600 crossflows are ten a penny over there, heaps of them in XR2's and the like.
  18. The BDTE was a 2 litre, from memory I belive that crazy Capri was just a teenie 1300!! But I know the one you mean, it was mental!!
  19. Cos I need this lot sorting out in the near future... My head hurts just looking at it!! Any good sparkies in the area say North of Northshore ?? CheeRS Dave...
  20. Hope I am not being boring here, but someone may be interested?? Anyway, I didnt like the old bolts that came out so being a tart went and bought nice shiney new ones today. Also borrowed the right size tap to refit the rest of the bars. Just need a ahnd to swap the upper ones now, I have extra gussets inside the car so its a two man job to get the pivot bolts in place. But here goes todays little bit of prgress... New Nuts, bolts, washers and tap for threading bars... Jig for measuring rose jiont equal lengths (Simple but works eh Pete!) Nice new threads... Nice and shiney in place now, also did panard rod bolts (Damn that rust tho!) And my beautiful assistant... Like I say, hope this is of interest to someone?? CheeRS Dave...
  21. I was looking at one just today mate, but sorry its already spoken for and going into a Formula Ford race car...DOH!!
  22. A few folks seem interested so here is a few snaps of my old 4 link bars being removed to make way for shorter Gartrac itmes... the powder coated black ones are a much better set, they have extra bracings and have been slash cut to eliminate stress points. Just need to re-tap out the ends for the rose joints tommorow and refit the new set. Its also pretty handy being mates with Pete, an ex race works team mechanic and bloody good Escort Rally driver!! I will post up more as it gets finished. CheeRS Dave...
  23. Sold some BDA bits today, but to a mate at special prices! I must admit I prefer hoarding stuff over flogging it. But the idea has me thinking now!
  24. Yes I used to own a RS500, thats what paid for the cars and me to get here!! Anyway to answer the other question a BDA simply means Belt Driven A series engine. As the engine developed they just added letters onto the end, working through the alphabet in about 15 different guises. The BDA started as a 1600 but of course developed upto 1800 in Mk2 RS1800 forms, there were 1100 BDJ, 2 litre BDG, and also a mental BDTE which was Turbo'd right upto 600+ bhp!! Does that answer your question? CheeRS Dave...
  25. Jinx, good points there mate. It would not be a big buisness but just a side line so I would not be looking to make big bucks anyway. the contact idea would make it easier to get started also, that way I would know what to order up front and not be sat on stock. With regard to fitting and modding, I hardly have time to finish my own cars!! But I know folks that can?? I will give it some serious thought and get back to folks later, need more time to get settled first. But its on the cards alright! CheeRS Dave...
