    DIFF RATIO

I have a 1600 crossflow esky, when i put the engine back in it will have a mild road/race cam (still to find out specs) over sized valves side draft carbs and a good exhaust system. I'm pretty sure i need to change the diff head too. I think i have a 4.11? pretty sure but not 100%. I want it to bequick of the mark but the still be able to pull out and pass cars when doing 60 - 80 kph. I was thinking a 3.77 a 3.54 might be a bit to slow off the mark. cheers
  3. so after grinding the ports on the inlet side of the head do you run that "honing" thing through again to give it a cross stitch finish? With the exhaust more enigine output needs a bigger exhaust to let the gases escape. When you do more work to your engine you need a bigger exhaust bigger carbs let more air in (intake) so then you need it all to exit (exhaust) so then you need a bigger exhaust pipe. something like that anyway.
  4. Did you give you head a port and polish escorta? how hard is that to do? do you just use real fine steel wool or something? and has anyone got the cam done (mild road race)? how much?
  5. yeah i looked at doing that to my 1300 but it's not worth it aye. There's no trouble in sticking a 1600 in just bolts straight in with no adjustment's the only thing i changed was a little bracket on the carb.(very minor). and i don't think you need a cert for a 1600 cause they come out with them. just tell your insurance company, just to be safe. and maybe the rego paper but half the time there wrong on the paper anyway. The 1600 looks pretty much exactly the same the head's just a little higher above the water pump. 1600 = $50 lake a gamble with its condition = $150 - $200 pretty good condition = $500 awesome condition/recent rebuild a 2L is a bit more work and chews heaps for gas and doesn't have that much for power on a good cond 1600
  6. if you do to much to a 1300 it will end up being just as economical or un economical as a 1600, it's not hard to take the engine out of a esky, just make sure the new one as ready to be put in, ie. rings arn't worn and the head's not cracked (i made that mistake, now i have to take the engine out again, gutted
