  1. I just paid $130 at Chevelle Motors in Gisborne for a bore and hone. Cheers Matt
  2. Alan Fisher in Gisborne is buildin my escort motor at the moment, definately knows his stuff. Is tweaking the valvetrain at the moment to get the max performance from my cam. He used to own Fisher Automotive so still has all the parts catalogues and orders straight from the suppliers. Will ask him the exact specs on the head gasket for ya when i call him next. Matt
  3. My engine builder sorted it out, but im pretty sure its just an ACL part. Think its made of carbon, will be talkin to him again in about 2 weeks so can find out for you if you like. My pistons are 40thou over, 1300 ones. Matt
  4. Could be worth gettin some oversized 1300 pistons though, as getting a motor bored and honed is only like $120 and then ya get a nice fresh bore. Have just done exactly the same thing with mine. Also an uprated head gasket to cope with the extra compression. Cheers Matt
  5. This is what it cost me for the head work on my 1600 escort motor: Supply & fit hardened inserts x 4 158.00 Strip & clean head 18.00 Bead blast & acid clean head 32.00 Crack test head 24.00 Reface valves 28.00 Reface Seats 38.00 Reface head 40.00 Clean & assy 44.00 Oversize valves 105.00 Port & polish & match to manifolds 200.00 Double Valve Springs 193.00 ============================================ Total $963.33 That was by a place called Chris Carrick Reconditioners. There are photos in my build up page, might find some other interesting info too. //oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=10637 cheers, Matt
  6. Yea weber are generally more expensive so i thought they'd be a better carb but dunno. managed to get the ones in that auction for $400 with a few spares. I had a set of webers but i sold them for $400 coz i ran outta money which was a dum idea! still have 2 or so rebuild kits with heaps of parts for the webers so should be able to make some money back selling them off. just gotta see what parts are interchangeble first. Guy on trademe offered me 2 reconditined delortors for $700 so he must be able to get the rebuild kits from somewhere? must be after market shiz. Cheers Matt
  7. That'd be cool man, no rush yet. motors gonna start being put together on thurs. Have it all painted up now, looks real nice. just hope the paint stays on! Cheers Matt
  8. Also lookin for an electric fuel pump to feed the twin del'orto's. what kinda pressure and Gals/hr would suit? Cheers Matt
  9. yea i thought it sounded a bit strange that the carbs were ported, he knows i dont want the manifold though so dunno why he said that. ah well, think im gonna give them a miss. $500 for that setup is prob pretty sweet for someone with a datto though. Matt
  10. Just talked to the guy with the second hand ones and he rekons the carbs have been ported to match the oval port head or something so it sounds like they've been stuffed round with anyway. Think i'll just look to get a rebuilt kit already set up for my motor. Cheers boes Matt
  11. If they're set up for the 1500 datto how likely is it that they'll be sweet like that on the escort?
  12. haha sweet cheers. Can get a set of rebuilt ones for $700 set up for the esky but then im gonna have to buy a filter too. The ones in the auction will be $500 but will probably be set up wrong for the esky. Hmm decisions. Matt
  13. Got a few questions about these carbs as i've found these ones on trademe that i think will be alright: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Nissan/Engines-drive-trains/auction-131643236.htm 1.) Will these fit on my weber manifold, i presume they will? 2.) What choke and venturi size would suit my engine, (worked 1600 escort motor with fast road / rally cam) 3.) Will any of the parts from my weber rebuild kit be compatible with these carbs. 4.) Anyone wanna buy that manifod/what is worth. Cheers boes Matt
  14. hey, thanks man. At the moment i'm decided on having no flares and using those TSW's that are on it now. I've tried to work out a way to flare it and keep those wheels with spacers but it just doesn't look right. If i flared it i'd have to goto a more old school wheel with some nice dish. I could end up changing my mind back before its paneled if i find some wheels i like better though. Cheers Matt
  15. Just picked up $230 worth of bearings and a conversion kit.
  16. I thought so too, but apparently not: http://www.rsmotorsport.com.au/technical/files/TC_Datsun_Crank.pdf Cheers, Matt
  17. sweet cheers man, will keep an eye out for it.
  18. its more because the valve cover and alternator and all the other little bits are polished and look really good, the engine bay will be painted up real nice, and most of the bits are new so look really good anyways. so when you show someone the engine bay they dont say "shit all that stuff looks awsome man", they say "oh you should have painted the motor too just to finish it off". true story. EDIT: and coz its been acid dipped it needs to be painted again anyway, coz some real fine layers of rust are startin to show.
  19. Where do you get that stuff from? i just grabbed a can of standard degreaser and a tin of paint stripper so i'll see how i get on with that. Wanna get some primer on this thing before it starts to rust! Cheers Matt
  20. Yea not to sure if it'll go together or not, will have to sus that out later, Blue and yellow seem to suit so it might be alright. Im pretty sure it'll be fine paintin that paint with a brush, the heat is still my biggest worry haha. Cheers Matt
  21. Yea his cars looking real nice, i've got that color paint to do the block, head and gearbox, rest of the engine will be polished and perhaps some small bits done in acid rush (the spew green yellow color also on the newish xr6's). Might have a go at brushing on the etch primer tonight, will see what the whethers like and if i have time to finish prepping it all. Cheers Matt
  22. Sweet, did he use heat paint? Will do some forum searching now. EDIT: Shit his cars the same color mines gonna be, and with the same wheels (the TSW's). He mentioned that for the block they got an engine enamel mixed to that color, but the guys at PPG here didn't know anything about doing something like that. Dammit. Cheers Matt
  23. Oh right that motor does look nice. I'm still wondering whether i should take my chances or not coz im really keen to go with this color. Dam paint! Cheers Matt
  24. Haha yea tryin to anyway, i figure if im spending thousands buildin the motor i might as well spend another $200 and try to make it look pretty. That brings me to my next problem, the paints not heat treated but i talked to a few spray painters around town and a lot of them said it should be fine on the block and gearbox. A mate also painted his motor and gearbox a metallic color with non heat treated paint and its still fine over a year later. I think im gonna just take my chances and brush paint it myself, then if it burns off i'll look at hpc coating or just painting it black with heat paint. I've got a really good quality etch primer here from the local PPG shop, but im thinking maybe i should at least try finding a heat treated etch to use instead. and make sure the motor never gets too hot! Cheers Matt
  25. Cool cheers guys. another person said that brushing it should be sweet too as the paint just evens itself out as long as your carful. i have an etch primer, primer, color coat, and clear coat to do though. do you still think i'll get a nice finish off it or would it be worth paying a spray painter to do it properly? The paint was pretty expensive so i wanna get the best job i can!
