  1. well i know theres leaks in inlet manifold and exhaust but that shouldnt make a differences when compression testing anyone know what the valve timing inlet and outlet should be ? *UPDATE* just got cyliner 3 to test @ 130 from 90 by just changing the valve timing on the tappets but i really need the proper specs to do it properly thanks
  2. just did a compression test 1 cyliner 150 2 cyliner 150 3 cyliner 90 4 cyliner 150 So not good theres no knocks/bangs so could be the head. A burned valve or something? i got a spare 1300, what will happen if i put the 1300 head on the 1600 block? will it raise compression or make it worst? or am i better off putting the 1300 in now and striping the 1600?

    Im pretty sure u can lock ur diff, so both wheels spin but not sure how long it will last. anyways just a idea

    the serria gearbox bolts straight upto the cortina engine no mods needed and its just a tiny bit longer at the end because of the 5th gear so u might have to get a custom driveshaft if your one doesnt reach/bolt up to it

    I put the serria 5spd in my cortina and u cant even hear the engine thats how quite it made it. Is the speedo cable on the drivers side? Yes it is Where is the gearstick port on the box? do i HAVE to cut the transmission tunnel up? If i do move my gearstick hole in the tunnel will the stick clear the handbrake? From what i understand u do have to cut a hole so the gearstick can come thru but shouldnt be in the way of the handbrake thats about all i know :/

  10. yup sierra engines are the same as cortina's unless he gets the 2.5L sierra engine just turbo that cortina engine mate i think thats what im doing to do when i start back at work
  11. 96HP doesnt seem like a whole lot :/ but thats standard so i guess when you start doing small mods etc.. goes up slowly.

  14. Well it seems ford put some special screws into the top of the motor looks like a star so ill need a star-socket ? Well that's what i was told at the store today but they dont have any instock and they were like you will have to take one out so we can make sure you get the right one. Im like YEAH if i could take it out i wouldnt be looking for that tool so is it called a star-socket ? and they cost much to buy ?
  15. ahh.. what about the tappets/cam when you take that off to take the head out do you have to reset the tappets? Just trying to get all the info i need cheers for the help
  16. Ok. First question is their any differences between the black and blue motors? by that i mean one has a black tappet cover and black airfilter cover and the other is blue. Or did Ford feel like a change of colour? hehe ive been told the blue one is meant to be higher compression but im not sure that why im asking and second question is... What would be easier change heads over or big end bearing? Because in my cortina atm me and my oldman are pretty sure one of the valve's have gone its missing hardout and we have check the timing and carb but whatever we do makes no difference. Reason im ask about the big end bearing is because ive got another 2ltr motor sitting their but the big end bearing has gone in it. So just thinking what would be easier keep my current motor and change heads or put in the other motor and put another bigend bearing in ? oh yeah forgot to add we changed the leads and sparkplugs aswell thought i better add that in before someone says check them hehe

    CORT timing

    Have you try opening the points up abit? that will make it go abit faster. i had a mate with one of those timing lights he used it on my cortina made it go crap as took me awhile to get timing back to where i had it. had it abit advanced. but idle fine and went quite good but then again it was semi-worked engine also you try changing the carb settings? make it run rich will eat abit more gas but will make it go faster!!! i dont have the cortina anymore sold it but keep it in the family. Dad has it now lol ended up getting me a 1991 subaru legacy haha and at the moment im looking at doing a 2.0L conversion on a escort

I recently put a serria 5speed in my mk5 cortina and the 4speed had way more power but only downside was the engine screamed now with the 5speed in their i can barely even hear the engine when doing over 100 all i hear now is the exhaust lol. Cant tell ya what revs its doing because i dont have a rev counter hehe. I must get one but yeah i did notice a big power loss from changing over to the 5speed but then again my engine is not really moded atm only extractors/bored&honed. Just got ahold of another 2.0L cortina motor so ill be fully working that then chucking it in once im finished then maybe chuck the 2.0L engine thats in the cortina atm into a eskie
