  1. After last years effort not a chance Im gonna waste another $20
  2. Bah just use a regular drill bit and weld the resulting hole up. Always worked fine for me
  3. I got patricks to make a new headlining for my J as the old one was rotten around the back window. Including the sunvisors and installation it cost $330
  4. I dont recall seeing any photos of cars in Japan that were painted Matte or Satin. Have you got any?
  5. While I fully agree on the advan paint job I dont agree it should look like its been done with a spray can. Everything else so far has been done to a high standard plus how many rangi painted cars do you see in the Jap pics
  6. It turns over fine just dont even try to start. Spark plus were brand new, havnt pulled them out to see what they look like now. They do have chokes but they not connected, pretty typical for twin sidedraughts. Suspect its gonna be an ignition related issue, timing or coil or something. Running half a tank of 91 and half 98. Probably once it gets emptied he'll use 96
  7. Compressions were tested by pitstop, it says on the invoice that theyre ok. Not sure what the numbers are. Either way its going in to get tuned on Monday so theyll sort it, I just intrigued if we can work it out before then
  8. 18r originally had a mechanical fuel pump, 18rg needs an electric one...but that was done about 2 months before the conversion and was running fine on the 18r. Battery was pretty dodgy but has been replaced by a brand new one, you can see it in the corner of the pic. He hasnt driven it that much yet but havnt had any problem with it stalling etc once its going.
  9. A few of the people here are probably aware of my flatmates RX30 cressida...shown here with my wheels instead of the normal longchamps (I dont have a decent pic with his wheels) Anyway over the past few weeks we've put an 18RG in it We've now got a most unusual problem. Got everything connected etc but it wouldnt start. So towed it and it started first time. Then turn it off and itll start on the key first time. But leave it to cool down and it wont start again. Same thing has happened the past few days, if you push start it even at walking pace itll go first time but it wont start off the key. As long as its been running in the past 10 mins or so itll start easy. Off the key it turns over fine but dont even try to start, youd think it had no petrol or something but seems to have plenty. Because its only off the key from cold Im totally stumped.
  10. Well my new head arrived today A87 SSS head. Although this is perfectly good the one I already have is better so Ill strip this one to make my other one whole again Cant get a decent pic of the car to show the new height but heres what the rear is like now Due to the shadows it looks like theres a gap but follow where the outside of the tyre is and youll see its just inside the guards
  11. How much is a small amount of oil? You do realise its british right
  12. No such motor as a B15A3...the smallest they came was B16. Plus ignore the 3 on the end thats a us spec one, nz and jap ones are just B16A or B18C etc Sizewise a B16A will be similar to a ZC but engine mounts would definately need to be changed, plus computer stuff. If you want that kinda power itll be more cost effective to go B series though, EF civic/CRX SiR and pre facelift DA Integra XSi/RSi have 160hp and eg civic/del sol SiR, facelift DA integra xsi/rsi, ek civic SiR (jdm hatch)/Si (jdm 4 door)/Vti-R (NZ new hatch) have a 170hp B16A. Im not to sure on what the engine differences are to get that. The other main difference is the 160hp engines come with a cable clutch while the 170hp ones have a hydro. As your car is curently cable it would be easier to use the earlier gearbox but hydro ones are more common and therefore cheaper so probably easier to convert the car. Or if you want more power again you could go for a B18C out of a DC integra Si/SirG/VTiR. The Integra type R motor is also a B18C we didnt call them B18C5 like the US did. Same amount of engineering for a 16 or an 18 but the 1800 motor will be more expensive to buy. Or the next step is a B20B out of a CRV or Orthia can have a B16A or B18C head on it to create a 2 lite vtec without too much work (not straight swap as you need new oil ways for vtec but its pretty close). A friend of mine had one of these that did 153kw atw still relatively stock (civic type r cams etc was about it). Most of the webpages out there are all us based so not all the information is too correct over here. Theres alot of very knowledgable people over at nzhondas, more so than here when it comes to hondas
  13. PMG-FI is just honda Fuel injection system. Its good in that you dont have a carby one but other than that dont mean much. If you interested in a conversion Id suggest a ZC (1600cc DOHC non-vtec). Thats what the top model came with in that shape. That shape came with a gold top which are 120hp (from memory anyway, its somewhere around that). The later shape civic and crx si had a black top ZC which are 130hp. Im not sure whether itd bolt straight in but theyre both D series motors so shouldnt be too difficult. The next step above that would be a B16A from an SiR Civic or CRX. More power but also a more expensive and difficult conversion. Dont bother with a 2.0 prelude motor. The B20A is an old motor, it would be as difficult as a B16A but not as good. Im not aware of anyone who has put a B20A in anything other than a prelude
  14. Fully agreed on the no bolt ons. You should be fine with wheels that wide, The 160J rear guards are a very similar design and I have much wider wheels and lower without them scraping, just need to roll the inside of the guards and run narrower tyres Other than that looks like a good base
  15. Yeah its got new springs and shocks in it now. They were only put in then I took it to get the engine looked at so I dont have any pics of it yet. Rear tyres are well insdie the guards (even before I put the subbox back in) and front tyres are pretty much at the guard. Its not slammed but Im quite happy with it
  16. http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewto ... highlight= I realise its been along time since I updated it but theres already a discussion thread on my car
  17. Well I took it in to get it tuned since it was running on 3 cylinders and not all together very well and they found this Now Im not an expert on engines but that dont look quite right to me For anyone who dont rember when I got my engine shipped from the northisland this happened in transit. everything other than the rocker cover looked ok but obviously its caused a stress fracture So next step is to pull the head and see what the damage is, I know its bent two valves, hopefully the piston is ok. Any suggestions on a new cam? Figure its a good time to put a hotter one in it
  18. Chroming definately makes steel more brittle than before. However its only really relevant if its something like a wire wheel where you have small pieces of metal that can individually break. Ive never heard of anyone who has had trouble with a chromed steel rim. Im sure if theyd made them illegal there would have been something said before now
  19. AFAIK Chamberlins in christchurch is about the only place in New Zealand is about the only place that does custom springs, probably looking $400ish plus installation so pretty much the same as off the shelf kings anyway
  20. Ah I thought that looked like a 710 in the driveway pic in the random pic thread. Good luck finding new panels for a 160, basically unless it came out on another model (eg my boot rubber is a 180b coupe one) noone will make it. Your probably better looking for 140j panels as well, I dont have any details on it but id imagine the only parts the same are the front guards and the bonnet, if that Your welcome to come have a look at my J if its any use to you, would be intrigued to see the differences between your car and mine too.
  21. Quick update. Basically nothing has happened since the above one. WOF has now expired and it wont get another one till its certed but I dont want to get that till Ive got the new suspension. In the mean time I came across this pic (thanks Retro-Rides )and hopefully this is similar to how itll look once its finally lowered
  22. You already know ill be there. Will probably be abit late though as have to play squash at 7
  23. Get an easy out. Apparently theyre cheap...but Ive never seen one let alone bought one so I could be wrong. Let me know how you get on cause ive got the same problem
