Here we go……quite a few sharns were had about this project at Nat’s 23.
While I was meeting a bunch of good bastards, a mate of mine went and picked this absolute weapon of a vehicle up for me. No wof, no rego, no cert and certainly no worries -yup it is rusty and dereg.
Few things I want to accomplish in no particular order….
~400hp capable motor- still to be decided thanks for a lot of interesting suggestions. The chassis rails are quite narrow so really limiting if I don’t want to chop the chassis if you have anything unique, throw up a comment in the discussion thread.
Keep it 4x4. Likely with a 6speed box etc - this is where it will get a bit over the top to actually make this work, will certainly need some kind of brake upgrade and probably lots of custom kit to make it all work
Fix the rust- a loooot of rust.
Get it back on the road.
Certed etc
I do realise this is not going to be a cheap or quick project and it maybe a case of putting on the road in somewhat stock form first then chopping it.
The good things:
It’s quite complete and runs and drives (or at least did recently)
It’s reasonably straight
Pic below of my mate collecting it.

Take it as a personal challenge to clean sheet wof... go on, you wont.

I think rust is fair game for a WOF inspector, in most cases it could be easily hidden... i expect to have to fix something every wof, usually minor but it appears to be the nature of an old car that hasnt been restored.
Im sick of doing rust tho... but have got on top of all the typical spots....

I think you should slap an old 18r in it and drive it, very quickly you will gain an appriecation regarding the loss of power and the motivation will kick back in (unless your daily is a bit of a weapon )

@KustomKreepsany update on the build?
-
thread dredge here, just reading thru some old builds, i see it's been a couple of years since the TT setup was started, has there been any more progress?

I love how quick this is moving along at!

Maybe it’s that piece that the wof man wants fix not so much the guard?

Thanks team, no replacement shocks at least based on all the forums im on altho im sure someone can custom something for a price, looking to avoid a cert in this car. at least for now (we all know how sliperly that slope is)
Ill pop into Chamberlains and see what they say,
Thanks

Back in the day, you used to be able to shorten macpherson style struts with reset (or makita) springs, does this require cert if your still above 100mm?
If so does anyone know who would do this in CHC or DN?

This is one epic build.... a true "from back in my day" resurection, wonder how much wild turkey/wine/homebrew went into the build? haha
Must be getting real close to a test drive now.

Had similar problem with early corollas, we always use to bash the inner gaurd seam flat (fold it over) but not sure it this would be legal in this day and age... altho id still do it on my own personal whip.

Every 6 months it get a fresh round of rust repair done… I even found some more that I didn’t know existed purely because I have a parts car and it was rusting there, sure enough check and yup there it is, I really need to get some kind of sprey on rust kill type product and do it from the inside as it’s currently rusting from the inside out… I have found a preferable project so this one’s gunna keep getting patches on patches although I’m doing a good job of putting new steel in it haha

I peeled it this AM ...
On the plus sides i might have a WOF by CoB today... and with any luck i will also have "new" wheels on... my garage wanted them checked as they had been on a rally car in thier past life and may not be true etc etc.
Fingers crossed, might be my last weekend to get anything sorted before Marahau.

As per subject line. Have imperfections in the paint wondering if there is an option other than sanding or if that is the only option?

Love me some rota skids

In the interest of actually getting a wof I scrape it off… gunna have a wee cry to mr wof man still and see if there is any leniency…

I’ll get some dimension put up once I have a chance to get to the car.
I think they are tortion bar/independent setup same as the later model leones but big brakes/hub assembly etc would be ideal
