  1. Hi Al, No the theres still thread left so not completely retarded. But half retarded lol. And yup single bolt clamp that slots in. I have one spring washer and the rest are flat. Correct me if im wrong but does it make a difference having 2 spring washers? Tbh i only have one spring washer available...
  2. Hey guys Ive had issues with my dizzy pooping out a few times now. Last week my dizzy popped out again and it also took out some of the thread at the same time.... Though the bolt was only long enough to thread half way. So I got a longer bolt and it seemed to have done the job until now.. I no longer have issues with the dizzy popping out but now it seems to like to move around.. I was at CNC today. Got there fine but some skyline blokes had to help me start the car while i rotated the dizzy to fire it up again. I cant seem to keep it in place without the dizzy turning around and when I give it some gas it starts to move again.. Any tips on what I can do? Ive already tried putting in more washers but doesnt seem to help.. Thanks Min
  3. Okay, looks like I found the issue. The timing was off 180 degrees hence it idled well when timing was retarded to 30deg. Nothing really wrong with the carbies although it still might need a tune.
  4. Can't agree with you more. already gone through 2 weekends trying to troubleshoot the issues... This car original had an 18rg with these carbs in perth until 3 days before getting into a container, the valves cracked and go stuck. Hence we sourced and slapped on an 18rgeu with the same carb configuration from the original 18rg. I assume the manifold is for the 18rgeu configuration with efi hence the narrowband. Just tried compression testing the cylinders but realized theres a vacuum leak on my tester.. constantly smacking my fukn head on the wall;;;
  5. As far as googling goes, both 18rg and 2tg came with 40phh. 18rg had the 40ph type S5 and 2tg had the S4. 44phh were only used on the 151e and 152e engines. (But I could be wrong)
  6. thanks Al Just tighten them both but doesnt feel like they were loose in the first place. looks like i have to keep digging!
  7. Hi Seedy Al, The ones on the car is an oem Mikuni 40ph Type S5 off an 18RG. I will open up the jet cover today and double check. When this did occur, did all 4 cylinders ran rich or was it just one cylinder? Thanks Min
  8. Thanks Smokin Joe but I better get one for myself since i'll be needing one long term. I hope the day will come when I can tune my carbies with only a rubber pipe and ear.
  9. ignoring the previous owners effort to make the oem manifold look like a proper header, does that look like a narrowband? @Abarthis this the one u have? https://www.thetoyshop.co.nz/the-tool-co-product/gunson-range/carbalancer?i=2882&c=438
  10. I'll try get the following done this weekend - the normal maintenance and eliminate the possible serviceable item issues. - Check cam timing - sort out a carburetor balancing tool - link up wideband (if its the one on the manifold) - and new spark plugs for the 3rd time this week! Hopefully with the above done, I can drive it to a proper carby tuner who can sprinkle their magic to make it drive properly.
  11. Thanks Spencer, I think I recall seeing one of these below the exhaust manifold on my celica. Might take a pic when I get home
  12. Thanks Abarth, do you know of any NZ suppliers selling Uni-Syn or a carb balancing tool? Looks like ebay sells a lot of them but non available in NZ..I have called the likes of Repco/SCA/Partmaster BNT etc, no-one supplies any
  13. looks like the 2 chokes are connected to eachother but nothing going back to the firewall. I assume its been disconnected since you'd probably not need it in perth? I moved the screw on the chokes and they move okay.
  14. Thanks K-Trip I will certainly take your advice on this. I agree with the carb tuning. Since I have never tuned carbs let alone driven one until yesterday.. I will keep some spare cash on the side for someone who knows what their doing. I just want to make sure that most troubleshooting has been done by me to save as much money going outwards as I can. Quick question, to adjust the tappets do I really need a adjustment tool or can it usually be done with a socket set? Thanks Min
  15. Thanks Azzuro Yes banging and popping out of carbs but theres definitely knocking with load too. Yeah, I have re-seal the rocker cover gasket since its pissing out oil from the sides anyway so will have a look. Is there any reading/information for cam timing for dummies? Surely google is my friend but if there are any recommendations please let me know.(never done this before). Fuel pressure was definitely something I am considering. Since its running an electro fuel pump, I assume that is pushing higher than the recommended 4.5PSI. Does anyone have an recommendations for a bypass fuel pressure reg? Carbs are definitely not clean either... Thanks guys
  16. Thanks Kicker, advance at around 12degs so i think that should be okay. Any idea on what I should check to see if the vaccuum is pushing too high?
  17. as fresh from the gas station as it can be
  18. Good day ladies and gents Wondering if anyone can help. My Ra23 celica passed compliance, and now working on getting it to drive properly. currently setup with 40phh mikuni sidedrafts with 18r-geu engine converted from EFI. When the celica was fresh off the boat from Perth, it was running on 3 cylinders and had no spark on cy 1. with fouled plugs. as black as you can get them. I put in new ignition coil, leads, dizzy cap and rotor, spark plugs. had it running on all 4 cylinders to adjust timing. I adjusted the timing to slightly advanced as it wasn't running well in neutral. in retarded timing, the engine gagged like it was gonna stall... With abit of advance timing, it idled and rev'd fine but under load there were some bangs and pops especially uphills. Sparks started to foul up again.. only cy 3 plug was burning ok. Carbs have not been tuned yet which may be one reason why this girl ain;t running properly. If anyone who knows what they are doing with carbs and can lend me a hand, I am happy to pay in beer Any other advice on where I should look/check from here would be great. Thanks Min
  19. Thanks Joker, Just wanted to to if OS holds their own track days and if not, are there any like minded people. If its been done, hasn't worked well and there are other alternatives, that probably answers my question haha. the free test day sounds awesome! Will look into the manfield website to check that out haha.
  20. I agree what your saying Joker, If I wanted to take my car to track for a spin, would definitely attend a open track day etc The reason why I ask is because at any playdays you could be on the track with a 700hp r34 gtr or a nissan march which can cause a bit of conflicting interest to those who attend even though this is well controlled by the organizers. it would just be nice to setup a closed OS trackday in Taupo/manfield which might work for OSer's throughout the north is region to get together and not worry about pissing anyone off. you can also stretch the rules and reg a bit to match it to this club environment etc. I think the media would be keen to see this since its not the usual toyota or sub club.
  21. Hi guys, Just wondering if you guys organize any OS track days in the north island region? If not then maybe pick a track, how many people might be keen to attend, see if its feasible? Whats everyone's thoughts on this?
  22. Thanks Lt. Dan! I will take your word on the screw heads! I've got some bluepoints but will still be cautious
  23. Hi guys, Finally my 76 Celica arrived from Perth this week! Considering that I bought this from Gumtree (aus craiglist) without viewing the car.. its not as bad as it could have been. Bit of rust to get thru for compliance but body is dead straight. I will be doing some usual servicing to get the car running but it looks like a bit of fuel or residue is leaking from one of the carbs. Currently runs a type T? Mikuni Solex dual carb on an 18RGEU. I was thinking about rebuilding the 2 cards myself but I have absolutely no experience in this sort of stuff. My mate suggests that we leave this to a pro to deal with and do it right the first time.. Has anyone rebuilt their carbs from scratch? If you could share some of your experience so I can determine the best option going forward. Many thanks Min
  24. Hi guys, looking for some advice on a rear disc brake conversion for my Ra23 from my fellow Celica owners here in NZ I've done some research (I mean googling) and reading articles from toyomods..Conversions from RT142, R31, AE86, Holden, hilux and the options keep going. Whats been tried in NZ? Are there any options here in NZ that don't require too much fabrication? Thanks Min
  25. if I can get my celica complied before this date, definitely keen. But go easy on the newbie
