Used to encounter that on SH1 between Timaru and Waimate with its obligatory line of cars behind it.  From memory it was/is owned by the Wigley family?  The power unit looks very Foden-ish.

At KiwiRail if the techs ever experienced something like this it was usual the mic or the plug.....can you get hold of another one to test?

We had a 92 Bluebird SE (sold when family additions meant getting a Honda Oddity) but man, that car could haul arse.....It was almost like the planets were in alignment when it was built and the engine (2.0) was just right for the weight of the car etc.  Should be able to find them now as cheapaschips, mine was really reliable as well.

Would trade again.....in a heartbeat.
