    Holy damn. 43 riders.

If you've never ridden in a big group before, it can be pretty hectic.

    Yeah, please take care y'all.

I've lost two good friends in "group rides", one of them left behind young kids and hubby who lost a leg in the same crash.

The other was a very well known and VERY confident rider (you would've seen his V8 bike at Southwards)

My sister also had her foot broken in a group ride.

So just remember, YOU may be a confident rider but NEVER assume the others know what they're doing.

I actually came here to ask about this. Has anyone used the Supercheap Lyndar paint matching thing? Keen to get a couple of spray cans of matched paint for the Mini, but its not your usual paint colour.

I commented on the lyndar stuff a week or so ago and my comment got removed.

All I'll say is as a spray painter of 35 years I wouldn't touch the stuff.

    Anyone heard of/used Meiji guns?

Picked  one up today at the tip recycling shop. Saw 'Japan' and thought it seemed well made, and feels nice in the hand, prob better than the supercheap  ones I'm using now?  Has a 2.0mm tip , suction type with 1 litre cup so may be useful for primer? Really don't know if it's good or garbage but thought for $7 it was worth grabbing...

Searched for info on MC model but seems it's too old to feature on the website. Will see how it looks after a clean and maybe give it a go...

It'll be fine for primer / filler. 2mm tip is big so not suitable for top coats (colour or clear)

Anyone here had much experience with nitrocellulose lacquer? I've heard the main drawback is durability, is it much worse than 1K?

Wouldn't bother mate, it's mainly used in the furniture and believe it or not the guitar refinishing trade now. There are far better products out there. Yes it is cheap but the quality (read the lack there of) of the finish will long be remembered after the price has gone from your memory.

Isn't that the old Duco ? That went out in the 70's.

Yep, was introduced in the early / mid' 1920's by DuPont.

  6. Thought instead of trying to keep threads updated and starting new ones i'd just put them all in one place then update the thread as i work on one of them.

    So in this pic' is,

2 x Suzuki B120s (one currently running) .......SOLD

    Suzuki A50

    Scrambler Horse mini bike.....SOLD

    Phillips Gadabout

In a box to the right of the toolbox is an earlier Phillips Gadabout which is a "long term" project.

    fomxlzgu.15u.jpg

The Scrambler Horse got pulled apart and new brake shoes and jack shaft bearings were installed along with a nice newly re-built and covered seat courtesy of Greg.

    r2geqian.e3v.jpg

Next on the list is the A50. Tried to start it but no spark and carb' leaked like a sieve so found the issue causing the lack of spark lol.

    lot4jbdk.kz3.jpg

So into bits it had to go....on the table then after a couple of hours the first bits are ready for the sandblasters in the morning.

Drop sheets and some positive flow fans in ya shed?

Would only recommend fans with sealed motors (known as 'burst proof' motors)

Have seen the results of non sealed motors and paint fumes. Never ended well.

Tbh was in the process of tagging you, thought you might have been able to assist this gentleman with some knowledge or did you get rid of your gadabouts?

Cheers, yeah still got them and have recently purchased a shit load more from a 'moped' collector Barry.

Not making that lot "public" until I've been through everything, which will take quite a while.

    hey team

new to the page, I have recently got my hands a Phillips gadabout and am on the hunt for some parts, mainly a red 2speed motor. is there anybody out who maybe able to help??

have put up a couple of pics and been in contact with a guy in the uk who has never seen a p39 Springer (not even a Google search will find a pic of one) who also told me it was one of only three with a 4 digit frame number!

let me know what you think

    cheers Johnnie

May have set you wrong on motor, after further research I've done it will/should have a three speed Rex or Villiers motor.

    What it the frame number?

Have not had a chance to go through that stash but there is a couple of motors that may be of use.

I had a theory that when the shed was full of projects the financial controller wouldn't notice new arrivals. :thumbleft:

    She does... :(

    You're doing it wrong.

I had a scheme for just that sort of thing when i restored HQ Holdens (Read: collected shitty old parts cars)

Put the new arrivals at the back and move the old ones forward, so then at a cursory glance everything is as normal. I got caught out at about HQ #17 (had a very large back yard) when she realised the path to the washing line was getting narrower.

They definitely like to multiply, you can tell when it is going to happen too. You'll notice one or a few of your current bikes will start to break down into smaller pieces, the more disassembled they get the higher the chance of a new one appearing in your garage. The secret is to not let them come apart and form piles of parts on your garage floor, the more complete they are the less likely they'll multiply.

    That's what i thought too........but NO......pffft.

Doesn't help when OS members (@Threeonthetree) are also in the same Book of Faces groups as you and put shit up for sale and then other members (@chris r) of both said places say "Yeah, sweet as, i can deliver them for ya" lol.

Now I have 7 non running bikes

Think you need to rephrase that, you've got a shed full of bits that one day in the far far future may resemble seven bikes haha.

Lol, I also have seven bikes, but two 'run' and that's only because you dropped off a runner.

Thats a open ended question I guess. Depends on what you want to spend and how much you think there is differences between the major brands? Some people want to stick to a paint system so will buy all PPG or similar known brand products, at least you know they are all recommended to function together. I used PPG on one of my first cars ( I have only painted ~5 cars, hardly a expert) because I knew nothing and it was a known brand of paint (cost me a fortune in Taupo also), it was good shit. Now in Australia I bought a couple brands but stuck to Protec because it was cheap, honestly I cannot tell the difference in quality. You would have to paint two cars and leave them in the sun for 15-20 years to see which is better.

Basically any major brand of 2 part epoxy primer designed for automotive use should be most peoples go-to for everything on bare metal. There a a million variants, some industrial "rust protection" ones with zinc, marine ones are more weather resistant but probably shit to sand. The Protec epotec? was a happy medium, you could do a quick block on it no problem, it had great adhesion and price, 4L for $100. Its probably more now, last lot I got was 3 years ago, no project life.

Protec is now a PPG owned company which sucks as i've been a Protec die hard since 94-95 and i hate giving PPG $ but i'll continue useing Protec.

Protec's Epotec is a very good epoxy.

At work we use Cromax 840R for our automotive stuff and Resene 440 for our industrial stuff, both great products.

  14. 1k is a lot more 'work' to get a decent result.

As long as you have breathing protection I'd go with the two pack.

Your neighbours won't know the diff' between single or two pack if the smell it lol

I have another question. Is $125 per litre (gst inc) a reasonable retail price for a Metalux 1K base coat in a solid red?

    Yep sounds 'bout right.

    Why are you using 1k?

  16. Yep, contamination, either on the panel or in primer.

Was it a brand new gun? Most cheaper guns come with 'machine oil' still on the internal parts and need thinners run through them a couple of times.

There are so many things that could cause this, look around the area you're painting to see if there are any 'silicone' based products, also I've had experience with that type of contamination caused by trees outside (mainly in oz tho')

Just rub back with the 320 and do again.

Sawzall the whole frame out and let the buyer worry about it

Haha, I've got a pair of Holden VS statesman opera windows that I did exactly that to.

Bought the car as a parts supply for mine and no glass company wanted to know about taking them out so cut them out attached to 3" of panel work.

(Reason for keeping them is I know from being in the industry insurance companies have written off perfectly good statesman's because they can't find opera windows)

Insert Barryism: "I'm keeping those because they'll be worth plenty one day"
