  1. Ripped the old carpet out of the van. Exposed a bit of rust starting in the foot well, and some already nice rust repairs which are mint. Sanded all the glue down and sanded back the rust. It was surprisingly better than I expected. Was a good day of cleaning and sanding for the both of us. Its always exciting lifting the seats and carpet out of vehicles. Today we did a final sand and clean. We applied 2 coats of a rust converter primer, then 2-3 coats of a Colorpak toyota blue that I had stashed with my aerosol cans. It's a nice colour, wish i had more of it or could remember its name. It's done the trick anyway to seal it. Once we've got some carpet down it should look pretty good. Nice to know the rust has had a good seeing too.
  2. After years of being apart of this forum and benefitting from its community I've decided to post up a project build. This is my Girlfriends 1983 Toyota Hiace Camper van, with a pop top roof. Running an 18r engine. She bought it about a year ago and it ran sweet for a summer, then started breaking down. The compression is down on two cylinders. We will drop the engine out after lockdown. Open her up and get an engine rebuilder to tell us exactly what it needs. Currently we are working on getting through the mountain of rust that is throughout this poor thing. We are getting there hahah The jack point on the passenger side is the worst rust we have found so far. You could knock it and rust would fall to the ground. So we've cut it out and started fabricating a new one
  3. I'll eventually get some better rims for it but for now the ogs are fine. They were just taking up room so they're better on the car, but they definitely aren't the ideal rim. I can't find any pics online of the suspension but I'll be pulling it out soon enough to measure etc and I'll put some pics up see if they're anything close. Anyone had any experience with custom springs in Auckland?
  4. Hahah yeah I've had experience with good ol Makita one ways. And yeah not too keen to go down that road for this car. I like it a bit too much. And would like it to kind of handle haha. Yeah I bought some rego today. Most money I have spent on the car so far the bloody rego
