  1. Catch up update...... Finished the Rotisserie - stands had bigger castors mounted & more supports added. (also had to heighten them a bit more as I stuffed up my measurements) EURON8 came and cast his professional eye over my welds to put my noobie nerves at rest............all good!! Just need a few of my Samoan brothers to come over and I'll have the shell up on the spit!! And after much "ummmming and ahhhhing" I have bought some paint stripper to save some $$ and get a bunch done myself first discuss here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
  2. Finished the rear section for my rotisserie over the weekend.......nearly. ran out of sticks so need to lay down a few more welds. Once I replace the castors and attach the joining bar she'll be ready to go! My welding is a lot better now thanks to watching a few vids..... they still look a bit ugly in places but I have overlapped a lot of them just to be sure. discuss here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
  3. Jody has some pretty mad welding skills there
  4. Yeah me too, thanks mate. I rushed a few in my excitement/impatience so I'll take more care next time too.
  5. Cheers guys. I ground back pretty much every weld on the red stand and had a mixed bag...... Some welds that looked bad were actually really good with great fusion between the metals ( In my uncertainty I went over a few welds twice to be sure - unnecessarily so which made them ugly). Some welds were bad and had lots of gaps and small cracks, but the ones on the main shaft were really good which was a relief - when I ground them flat it looked like it was 95% all one piece. Grinding them all back satisfied my perfectionist/ocd side so that was enjoyable - they'll look mint........and not kill me or my shell!! I'll study up a bit more before I lay some fresh welds over the joins again.
  6. i'm using a stick welder with some stainless rods my dad had spare, i'll turn the amps up and do some more practice...........how can I tell when they are good welds?
  7. I had to chuckle a bit at "I've been told off on here"........ You're probably right about the welds on the angle as I did it at the same amps I did some of the box section, which I almost put a few holes in. I kind of didn't care how it looked, and i did give it all a few hard whacks to 'test' it, but I also do not want to bend my car so i'll give it a grind and another going over on a higher amp setting
  8. i'm not now..........enlighten me please, this is the first time I've welded. Which ones in particular are you talking about?
  9. My steel finally arrived this week and I was able to find a few hours here and there to get started on the rotisserie. I finished the front mount. The car has had a slight prang on the passenger side so when I bolted up the arm to the bumper mounts it was sticking out on a funny angle......lucky I had a few big metal bars lying around to straighten it up.
  10. Yeah definitely planning on having a bar between the two stands.......the thing that makes me nervous is will my 'first timer' welds hold together!!?? (nervous laugh)
  11. Forgot to add...... The farmer who my dad sold my original KE25 to, found this in his shed......... The last surviving part of my first car!! the rest is down a tomo discuss here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
  12. Good ideas mate, i'll definitely be doing that. I can imagine that nervous moment when you turned it wondering if it'll all hold and that stupid handle falls - funny, but I feel for ya
  13. Small update: My steel for the rotisserie wasn't ready on friday I'm getting it dirt cheap and cut for free so I can't really complain. So I did what I could with the engine stands, cutting off the front, welding up the joints and the castors, modifying the frame. I'll cut the tops off, make them a bit taller and finish the mounting brackets this week hopefully. Pretty pleased considering this is the first time i've done any welding. Good to be moving forward discuss here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/
  14. He's got a great sound and pick up with that motor. I'm still 50/50 on which path to take the engine at the mo. My focus is to get the body done and just keep researching, chatting with peeps etc. Still need to look into whats involved etc with a worked blacktop - i'm not chasing numbers with the build and really like the 4age. T50 will bolt straight in too as I'm not too keen to modify the firewall and tunnel.
  15. Also got a few engine stands with the plan to turn them into a rotisserie......... I figured I'd brace up the stands a little and run a few welds along where the sections of the stands come together as they are only bolted. I also need to make them approx 20cm taller.....then need to join them together. What do any of you qualified engineering types/steel workers out there reckon.....am I on to a winner here?
  16. so this happened today...... looks good in the garage, would be better in the engine bay, but thats a wee while away.....good things take time. also, can anyone recommend someone experienced in removing extra mounts on a AE86 diff and attaching ke25 leaf spring mounts???
  17. Sweet man. My prototypes will be finished very soon, would be good to compare them to the real thing.....
  18. it'll be a mix i think. I want the te27 black interior and gauges, wide te27 flares, wing mirrors too, nice deep dish wheels. I like the colouring of the ke25 exterior plastics (silvery/grey) and not 100% sure of how much of the chrome i'll use...... & i'm currently in the process of creating a set of replica SR badges which I'll use
  19. Hey Guys, thanks for dropping by. Hey Ben, Probably need a new ecu for a worked BT20v and a bunch of rear drive bits, which luckily are increasingly more available from what I can see........but I hear what your saying - thanks for the pov, I'm learning as I go so we'll see how it goes. cool bro, i'd love to see how yours goes too.......any 7age tips and pointers you learn would be good to know! Doug the Dipper in Rotorua is the maaaaannn. Hell yeah this car is getting done right!!!
  20. Hey there guys and gals, My first car was a ke25 that I did a chicken wire and bog job on, and always wanted to restore it properly when I was all grown up. My dad sold it to a farmer who's kids trashed it and tipped out down a tomo I picked this up a few years ago (now that i'm all grown up) and the restoration began..... She's now fully stripped. And I've since collected a bunch of rare parts (ke25 and JDM TE27) and am waiting for the weather to improve so I can make a trip to Rototua and have the shell dipped. Plans are for a 20V Blacktop 7age with T50, Ae86 front shocks & brakes, Ae86 rear end with LSD and possibly repsol orange..... I'm pretty much a mechanical noob with limited experience so i'll do what I can and will have some pro's help along the way...... Any help from some seasoned Oldschool pro's would be much appreciated Discussion thread here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49950-alasdairs-1974-ke25-corolla/
